Although the athletes are members of opposing teams, they are friendly rivals. Their participation in the games reflects the essence of interscholastic athletics – to play hard but fair.

Dear Loyola Academy Hockey Supporter, Welcome to the 55th year of Loyola hockey! The club survived a very challenging season last year thanks to the support of our parents, coaches, alumni, and the efforts of our amazing team managers. It is important to remember that we are still in the midst of a pandemic, and our collective efforts continue towards the goal of another meaningful and safe hockey experience for our kids. The commitment and pride that our players demonstrate as ambassadors of Loyola Academy remains outstanding as we navigate through the adversity of the pandemic. We are proud once again to field four teams: Girls, Gold, Maroon and JV. We are also happy to report that we have negotiated a new contract with the Heartland Ice Arena which will keep us there through the 2023-2024 season. Hockey fees will remain flat this season and, new this year, we will implement on-ice skills sessions, off-ice training and yoga for each of the teams. We eagerly prepare for the 50th Annual O’Grady Thanksgiving Tournament in November. After a one-year pandemic-related hiatus, the tournament is back bigger than ever in its 50th year with 40 teams scheduled to participate this year at the JV, Varsity 1 and Varsity 2 level. The new virtual ad book will continue to be the club’s primary fund raising vehicle for the coming year; it was a large success for us last year as it netted the club a record amount of funds despite the pandemic. We cannot thank enough the businesses, alumni and parents who made this book possible as all proceeds directly fund the hockey club. As you read through the ad book, get to know some of these local businesses and please consider patronizing the sponsors that support Loyola Academy Hockey in these challenging times. The sponsors in this ad book are valued partners of the LAHC and we

recognize and appreciate their support this year more than ever. Please visit the ad book at our website <www.loyolahockey.com> to support our sponsors and promote their businesses. The website is a great way to get updates on your favorite Loyola Academy hockey team and to utilize the many useful tools which allow family, friends and alumni to follow Loyola Academy hockey. I want to personally thank Todd Cowen and his committee who have done an outstanding job with the concept and design of this virtual ad book. Special thanks to Peter Birren for his work to organize the ad book entries, to and Dan Liebers for his continued wisdom and guidance. We feel the future is bright for the LAHC and its fundraising efforts. A special thank you for the cooperation we receive from Loyola Academy. Thank you to Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, Principal Charlie Heinz, Athletic Director Genevieve Atwood, Girls’ Moderator Doug Gleber, Boys’ Moderator Melissa Krein, the Loyola Academy Administration and the faculty. The mission the Academy instills in its student athletes – to form women and men for meaningful lives of leadership and service in imitation of Jesus Christ through a college preparatory education in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition – remains the guiding foundation for our parent led hockey club. Finally, and most importantly, I want to recognize and thank the volunteer parents on the LAHC Board of Directors whose leadership and hard work over the past 18 months has been, and continues to be, invaluable. Thank you again for your support and I will see you at the rink. Please enjoy a safe and blessed Holiday season. Go Ramblers! Chris M. Gonzalez President, Loyola Academy Hockey Club

The O’Grady Tournament Jack W. O'Grady's advertising art studio and sales promotion agency was one of the best-known in the country, with a client list that included United Airlines, Kraft Foods, Sears, Zenith, Miller Brewing, Royal Crown Cola and many other Fortune 500 companies. He also was an art gallery owner, a prominent photographer and the longtime hockey coach at Loyola Academy in Wilmette. Mr. O'Grady died June 1, 2003, at age 80.
During the many years of the Loyola Academy Thanksgiving Hockey Tournaments, we have benefited greatly from the favors of our business advertisers. Shellberg was a two-time state champion with Loyola Gold, a model teammate and standout student-athlete. He unexpectedly died in 2010 in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. To keep his memory alive, the Loyola Hockey Club created a scholarship fund in his name. The award comes with $1,500 that will be applied to the recipient’s college freshman year tuition. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this scholarship possible. We are thrilled to have created such a fitting legacy for Kyle, and we are looking forward to many more award recipients in the coming years! We hope you will continue to support Loyola Academy, and the Kyle Shellberg Scholarship Award, as we’ve seen first hand the impact of your gifts.

He was someone who played with more of a competitive edge than anybody else on the ice. He was an outstanding leader and an even better teammate.” All In The Family: “My brother (John) played on Loyola Gold for two years and had an unreal experience. It made me excited to finally get my chance at high school hockey. Having a brother that played in the SHL before me, I was exposed to the great environment that it brings.” Looking Ahead: “I haven’t decided on a school yet for next year, but I’m applying for an ROTC scholarship from the Marines.” Off The Ice: “I picked up golf last spring during the pandemic.
