Welcome to the 57th year of Loyola hockey and the 52nd Annual O’Grady Thanksgiving Tournament! It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Loyola Academy Hockey Club (LAHC) President for the past four years. I have worked with some amazing individuals within this parent run organization which has made my job easier, and I want to recognize all the volunteer parents both past and present for their tireless efforts to keep the LAHC strong. The club is in great shape financially and student athlete participation is up significantly. I want to give special recognition to our hockey director DJ Lavarre, who in his 33rd year with the club has established and maintains a culture of excellence which makes Loyola one of the premier high school hockey programs in the state. For the second year in a row the LAHC has five teams: Girls, Gold, Maroon, JV1, and JV2. Our home ice contract with the Heartland Arena allows us to continue high quality skill sessions, off ice training, and the ability to keep pace with inflationary driven expenses such as the cost of tournaments, referees, and trainers. We are proud to host the 52nd Annual O’Grady Thanksgiving Tournament. We have 40 teams ready to participate this year at the JV and Varsity level and the competition promises to be outstanding. I want to thank Dave Jones for doing such a fine job leading the tournament committee in just his second year in this role. The tournament ad book continues to be the club’s primary fundraising vehicle. We cannot thank enough the businesses, alumni, and parents who make this book possible. As you read through the ad book, please get to know some of these local businesses and please consider patronizing the sponsors that support Loyola Academy hockey. The sponsors in this ad book are valued partners of the LAHC and we recognize and appreciate their support. Please visit the ad book at our website www.loyolahockey.com to support our sponsors and promote their businesses. The website is a great way to get updates on your favorite Loyola Academy hockey team, and to utilize the many useful tools which allow family, friends, and alumni to follow Loyola Academy hockey. You can also follow Loyola Hockey on Twitter @RamblerHockey and Instagram at ramblerhockey. I want to thank Tom Macina, Peter Schoonyoung and their committee who have done an outstanding

job with the concept and design of the ad book which continues to attract new sponsors each year. As always, a special thanks to Peter Birren for his work to organize and design the ad book entries so incredibly well. I want to recognize and thank Loyola Academy leadership for the cooperation the club enjoys with the school. Thank you to Loyola Academy President, the Reverend Gregory J. Ostdiek, SJ, Principal Tim Devine, Athletic Director Genevieve Atwood, Boys’ Moderator Tammy Butvilas, our new Girls’ moderator Katie Seeberg, and all Loyola Academy administration and faculty for the support and guidance. The mission the Academy instills in its students remains the foundation for the LAHC and our student athletes which is,“To form women and men for meaningful lives of leadership and service in imitation of Jesus Christ through a college preparatory education in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition.” I want to especially thank the volunteer parents on the LAHC Board of Directors and our team managers whose leadership, hard work, and dedication makes the experience of playing hockey for Loyola so special for our student athletes. Their names and responsibilities are found on the following page. Many hours of work go into the final product that we only see at game time, and I want to recognize the parents who serve in these roles. Please thank them for what they do when you see them this weekend. Finally on a personal note in my final year with the LAHC, I want to recognize my three sons – Mike ‘16, Jake ‘19, and Nick ’24 – who skate(d) for the club. They provided some outstanding memories for us as a family and helped the LAHC win two state championships with the Maroon (2014) and Gold (2018) teams. I also want to recognize my wife Jennifer for her service on the board as secretary and currently as ethics and rules committee chair. It has been an honor for our family to have served and skated for the LAHC the past 12 years. Thank you again for your support of the LAHC and enjoy the tournament. Have a safe and happy Holiday season. GO RAMBLERS!

Playing on the United Center ice was truly the experience of a lifetime for the girls. 2023-2024 DJ LA VARRE – Head Coach GINA GUZZI – Assistant Coach Gina has played hockey for 20 years and has been a coach for 10 years. She recently coached Learn to Skate hockey camps, squirts, U12 and U14 girls teams at Franklin Park for three years. Gina also coached girls U12, U14, U16 at Glenview for 4 years, ran off-ice training for the U16 girls team and summer conditioning. She is excited for her fourth season at Loyola.
Andrea Renner – Assistant Coach My playing resume consists of boys’ hockey, AAA girls’ hockey and USA Hockey National Development Program invites to St. Cloud State and the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. I eventually made my way to Huntington Avenue in Boston, to play Division 1 hockey at Northeastern University from 2016-2022. My time there resulted in a 5-year playing career and being a captain for 4 years. While there, I was part of 5 Hockey East Championships, 2 Frozen Four appearances and 1 NCAA National Runner-Up title. Coaching Experience: Upon college graduation, I returned home to coach the U14 AAA Windy City Storm Girls team and was also the Assistant Hockey Director of the girls program in 2022-2023. I am now the owner and head instructor of newly established Elevate Hockey Development which runs camps, clinics, group and private sessions year-round as well as working with youth hockey organizations in the Chicagoland area.
CARLA PENTIMONE – Assistant Coach Carla played AAA girls hockey for Chicago Mission, Team Illinois, and the Chicago Young Americans while double-rostering as captain of the Loyola Academy Girls Varsity Team. Her Junior and Senior Year of High School, she was a member of USA Hockey’s U18 National Development Program at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. Carla went on to win two NCAA Division I National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received the Most Inspiring Player award along with the Badger Community Service award. Carla has coached girls hockey at the AAA, AA, and High School levels. She coached CYA to USA Hockey Nationals and helped guide the New Trier Girls Varsity Trevians to back-to-back State Championship appearances in 2014 and 2015, winning in 2015. Carla was the Girls Director and Coach for the USA Hockey ADM Model Club, the Admirals, and the Chicago Jets Hockey Club. Carla has also coached at the collegiate level; she was the Associate Head Coach of Robert Morris University’s Women’s Ice Hockey team and the Assistant Coach of DePaul University's Men's Ice Hockey team. Carla enjoys giving back to Hockey by coaching the Chicago Blackhawks Blind Hockey Team and serving as a USA Hockey Coaching Education Program Instructor. Carla owns Women's College Hockey Recruiting where she and her staff of 5 former NCAA DI & DIII advisors assist high school student athletes to play NCAA college hockey. Last season, she coached the Loyola Girls team with DJ & Gina to the State Championship at the United Center - they also were second in the league championship. Carla loves being back at her alma mater as a coach!
