he human body is mechanically sophisticated. Human movement is achieved by a complex and highly coordinated mechanical interaction between bones, muscles, ligaments and joints. No one understands this better than Dr. Brett L. Feldman with Piedmont Bone & Joint in Statesville. Dr. Feldman is an orthopaedic doctor which is sort of like being a mechanic for the human body. The practice at Piedmont concentrates on the evaluation and management of disorders and injuries of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Feldman specializes in all aspects of foot and 26 LimitlessMagOnline.com | December 2021
ankle disorders. Some of the disorders he concentrates on include bunions, complex fractures, painful heel, arthritis, rheumatoid deformities, and total joint replacement--knee, hip and ankle. In addition to his sub-specialty foot and ankle practice, Dr. Feldman maintains a strong interest in sports medicine and arthroscopy, trauma and post-traumatic deformity, and total joint replacement, including the latest technique in anterior, muscle sparing total hip replacement. “As a child I liked anything mechanical, taking stuff apart to learn how it worked,” stated Feldman. “In high school, studying biology and playing sports I became
interested in how the body works.” A football injury in high school landed him in the office of an orthopaedist--a foretelling and lucky visit. The doctor had played football in high school as well, so they got talking about team sports and how athletes should take care of their bodies and improve performance. Feldman was fascinated with how the doctor was able to describe how the human body works. His descriptions clicked and helped Feldman visualize how the body works. This interest in the mechanics of how the human body operates buoyed him into his profession. “I enjoy learning,” Feldman said.
