DON’T TAKE YOURSELF FOR GRANTED … self-care for men!

Ok, Gentlemen, listen up! We know life gets busy and it’s easy to forget to take time for yourself, so we want to encourage you to do just that. We are always talking about women and all they have to juggle, but we are not forgetting our fellas! We don’t take you for granted so please don’t take yourself for granted. Here are a few suggestions on male self-care from WebMd:

Find a doctor. On behalf of all the women in your life, “Just do it!” Do some research, talk to your friends, and find a doctor with whom you’re comfortable. Form a bond and a relationship with your physician, see them regularly, and do what they say.

Vary your exercise.

Your body can get too comfortable and complacent when you always do the same workout so mix it up a bit … have an ageappropriate variety of aerobics, muscle training, and stretching.

Keep tabs on your mental

status. Think about several things: Are you drinking too much alcohol? Are you paying attention to signs of depression or bipolar symptoms (which are easily and often overlooked in men)? If you have a family history of mental illness, suicide, and/or substance abuse, you should talk to your doctor.

MOVE BETTER, FEEL BETTER, DONE .

NOT YOUR AVERAGE PILATES STUDIO. Beyond Pilates, we have specialized training to help those with back issues, back surgery, scoliosis, osteoporosis/osteopenia. The more adventurous could take advantage of Yoga Trapeze®, or flexibility and mobility training utilizing Gravity Yoga®. The Alexander Technique can address posture, movement, and habit for total body immersion learning.

Eat, drink, and sleep with

purpose. WebMd advises you focus on nutrients rather than calories and eat a variety of healthy foods … and don’t forget the 8x8 rule for water intake (8, 8oz glasses of water per day). Get at least seven hours of sleep. Men think they can overcome sleep deprivation by exercising or pushing on, regardless of what their body is telling them, but that serves no one … recuperative sleep is critical to good physical and mental health. Yay for sex! When you’re stressed out, not sleeping well, or drinking too much alcohol, your sex life will suffer, and we all know the importance and fragility of the male libido. A healthy libido depends on a healthy lifestyle, and a healthy sex life is a crucial component of a man’s overall health and wellbeing.

Prostate care is essential.

The prostate grows as you get older, so you’ll almost certainly have symptoms at some point. A healthy, low-fat diet will reduce the likelihood of prostate growth and may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Have a discussion with your doctor about your prostate health.

YOLO so have fun! Look forward to every day; do something different every day; do something for yourself every day … whether it’s taking a run or listening to an audiobook or practicing meditation, find your groove and live each day with purpose and gratitude. w
