By BRIAN DE LOS SANTOS FOXSports March 3, 2013 Might LeBron James be reconsidering participating in the dunk contest one day?
James has never taken part in the NBA All-Star Weekend event and has maintained he never will. However, the Heat star has drawn attention of late with spectacular dunks he has been showing off during warmups before games. That prompted former Los Angeles Laker, Hall of Famer and ESPN/ABC basketball analyst Magic Johnson to offer a $1 million incentive to get James to change his mind.
"Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest," Johnson said on Friday during ESPN's NBA pregame show. "I'm going to put up a million dollars. A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner." Prior to the Heat's 99-93 win against the Knicks on Sunday, ESPN's Lisa Salters asked him about the offer, to which James replied, "Tell him I'll get back to him." Not exactly a yes, but not closing the door on the idea either. After the game, James was asked to clarify where things stand, and his response will do little to muzzle future questions about his plans. "Right now, I don’t know, it doesn’t really stand anywhere," James told reporters. "Right now I’m so focused on what we’re doing as a team — shoot, All-Star weekend is how far away? I’m not even really thinking about that right now. But it was entertaining to hear him say that."
Pregnant coach dies in bus crash CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) Police are investigating what caused a bus carrying a college women's lacrosse team to veer off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and crash into a tree, killing a pregnant coach, her unborn child and the driver. Seton Hill University team players and coaches were among 23 people aboard when the bus crashed Saturday morning. The team was headed to an afternoon game at Millersville University, about 50 miles from the crash site in central Pennsylvania. Head coach Kristina Quigley, 30, of Greensburg died of her injuries at a hospital, Cumberland County authorities said. Quigley was about six months pregnant and her unborn son didn't survive. The bus driver, Anthony Guaetta, 61, of Johnstown, died at the scene. The other passengers were taken to hospitals as a precaution; two passengers were still being treated Saturday night. The front left side of the bus was shorn away, and the vehicle rested upright about 70 yards from the road at the bottom of a grassy slope. Police couldn't immediately say what had caused the crash. Both Saturday's game and a Sunday home game were canceled after the crash, and Seton Hill, a Catholic liberal arts school of about 2,500 students near Pittsburgh, said a memorial Mass was planned for Sunday night on campus. The school is also offering grief counseling to students. Duquesne University women's lacrosse coach Mike Scerbo remembered Quigley as a warm, outgoing person who immediately impressed him when he hired her to be an assistant during the 2008 season.

Louisville players rage in locker room with Bill Clinton after beating Villanova Yes, that is Bill Clinton, the former Leader of the Free World, as well as Russ Smith and Chane Behanan, two Louisville basketball players. And yes, all three of them are rockin’ out with teammates in the locker room after the Cardinals took care of business against Villanova during the Big East Tournament on Thursday. Why? Because why not? The locker room fun actually capped an extremely emotional day for Smith, who learned only hours before taking the court that his high school coach, the legendary Jack Curran, died at age 83 on Thursday. Playing in Curran’s honor, Smith led the Cardinals with 28 points. But after a day of tears, he finished the night sharing cheers with Arkansas’ most well-known fan. The funniest part? These photos surfaced on the very same day RGIII photobombed Ken Starr, the federal investigator who first publicized Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky. Just try to imagine President George Washington doing something like this with some peeps after his second term was up in 1797. Didn’t exactly have Instagram back then, did he?
Kobe getting treatment on ankle
Kobe Bryant says Dahntay Jones' dangerous defense left him with a sprained left ankle, and the NBA agreed. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers are hoping the injury doesn't keep their star away from a playoff push for long. Bryant spent Thursday getting several hours of treatment on what he called the worst sprained ankle of his 17 NBA seasons, hoping to be healthy for Friday's game at Indiana. Although the Lakers offered no update on his condition after saying Bryant was out ''indefinitely,'' the NBA acknowledged Jones should have been called for a foul on the play that left Bryant crumpled on the court in Atlanta. The fifth-leading scorer in NBA history was hurt when he landed on Jones' foot with 4 seconds left after attempting a potential tying jumper ''After review at the league office, video replay confirmed that referees missed a foul call on Jones as he challenged Bryant's shot and did not give him the opportunity to land cleanly back on the floor,'' said the statement on the NBA's web site. ''Bryant should have been granted two free throws.''
Dantley working as crossing guard Before anybody assumes that this is just another story of a former professional athlete who is broke, we should mention that Adrian Dantley does not need the money. Even though the Hall of Fame forward is now a crossing guard in Silver Spring, Md., reportedly making about $14,000 a year, he is not broke. Dantley, who retired from the NBA in 1991, is just looking for something to do. Plus, the infamously cheap six-time All-Star needs health insurance, which the job provides. Neither the NBA nor its players association provides health insurance for retired players. The job places him outside Eastern Middle School, where a Deadspin

writer recently saw Dantley intercept a student who was about to run in front of an oncoming car. Friends were not surprised that Dantley, notoriously frugal even as a player, is not willing to sit around in retirement. “Adrian’s cheap,” an associate told Deadspin. “But he’s not going to take free money. That’s not Adrian Dantley. No matter what the job is, he’s gonna show up on time, and give other people *expletive+ if they show up late.” The transition to crossing guard was natural for Dantley. As a 6-foot-5 forward with an excellent post game, Dantley usually operated in traffic during his playing days. It makes sense that he does the same now. Story by NBA NEWs
Emmitt Smith Says New Safety Rule Means NFL Has “Lost Its Mind” DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - The NFL is changing its rules to prevent ballcarriers from initiating contact with the crown of the helmet. It’s an attempt to make the game safer – but the league’s all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith, thinks the NFL should have its own head examined. “If I’m a running back and I’m running into a linebacker, you’re telling me I have to keep my head up so he can take my chin off?’’ Smith said Thursday in an exclusive interview with Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan. “You’ve absolutely lost your mind.’’ The NFL’s rules-making competition committee will propose this change to NFL owners at league meetings next week. At least 24 votes from 32 owners are required for passage. “As a running back, it’s almost impossible (to not lower your head),’’ said the Dallas Cowboys legend. “The first thing you do is get behind your shoulder pads. That means you’re leaning forward and the first part of contact that’s going to take place is your head, regardless. “I disagree with the rule altogether. It doesn’t make any sense for that position. It sounds like it’s been made up by people who have never played the game of football.’’
UFC 158 GSP vs. Diaz Results: GSP Wins, Diaz Teases Retirement March 17, 2013 By: Eric Gargiulo I don’t think anyone expected the Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz UFC 158 mainevent to be a loser leaves town match but it may have just been that. After suffering a dominating defeat, Diaz announced his likely retirement in an anticclimatic end to one of the UFC’s biggest grudge fights. If you took a step back from all of the Diaz trash talk and fight hype, you probably had a good idea of how this fight was going to go. The highly anticipated GSP vs. Nick Diaz main-event turned out to be the fight you expected and that was unfortunate. Fans were paid off with the typical GSP ground and grind with a mix of standup in a fight that hardly lived up to the hype. I don’t know if I’d call it a dominating fight by GSP or just a bad off night for Diaz, regardless GSP won the five-round decision. The first round saw GSP dominate Diaz with takedowns. The best action came as the second round closed and Diaz tried to get into St-Pierre’s face. The third round was Diaz’s best as he stopped multiple takedown attempts and had some striking combinations. Unfortunately that was about the best we saw from Diaz all fight. At one point Diaz just seemed disinterested walking around with his hands down. The only other highlight was Diaz hitting GSP after the bell late in the fight and being threatened with a disqualification. Other than that it wasn’t too thrilling.

Pacers’ George Hill calls out Indiana fans Published March 16, 2013 | By Jason Whitney The small market Indiana Pacers currently hold the number two seed in the Eastern Conference. By the way the arena was packed with Los Angeles Lakers fans last night, it surely wouldn’t look like it. The Pacers lost an embarrassing “home” game to the Lakers last night and that was with Kobe Bryant playing only 12 minutes and failing to score a single point. In George Hill’s mind, the lack of fans supporting the hometown Pacers was egregious.
Via Mike Wells of the Indy Star: Just like any other time when a marquee team comes to Indianapolis, the fieldhouse was full of fans wearing purple-and-gold shirts. That didn’t sit well with Hill inside the locker room after the game. The Pacers starting point guard sat at Paul George’s locker putting on lotion and talking to center Roy Hibbert loud enough so that the media could hear what he was saying. “Somebody has to say something,” Hill said as Hibbert tried to get him to calm down. Hill was determined to get his message across to the media and continued to voice his frustration toward the lack of Pacers fans. “It sucks,” the Indianapolis native said. “It was 70-30 out there (in favor of Lakers fans). These are the same people that want autographs. … We’re out there in the community doing what we’re supposed to do on and off the court. Something has to change. … It shouldn’t feel like an away game, especially with an important game like this. That’s what it felt like.”
Donte’ Stallworth suffers burns, injuries after hot-air balloon accident with girlfriend

Free agent wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth’s fun offseason day with his girlfriend nearly turned tragic on Saturday morning. He took his girlfriend up in a hot air balloon ride, but suffered burns after the balloon ran into power lines. Stallworth and his girlfriend have reportedly been hospitalized, but are in stable condition, according to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com. NHL Teams unveil St. Patrick’s Day warmup jerseys Nothing like changing your warmup jersey to get in the spirit of the Holidays. The Tampa Bay Lighting, Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets are all wearing green warmup jerseys for their games on Saturday in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The New York Islanders wore a similar set for warmups on March 9th.

Five-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte, 28, was reportedly spotted kissing 40-yearold actress, model and singer Carmen Electra in the Hollywood nightclub, Bootsy Bellows. Lochte, who stars in his own E! reality show in April called, “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” tweeted a photo with the former “Baywatch” babe. She posted a photo of two of them on her Facebook page. Lochte tweeted, “Me and beautiful Carmen Electra. My biggest crush since childhood. Finally meeting her.” Electra tweeted, “So nice to meet u. JEAH!!! Well, apparently they move fast for a first meeting. “They were in a booth together and he had his arm around her and they were kissing on the lips,” an eyewitness told Eonline.com. “At one point, they were standing up and kissing and everyone saw them.” The eyewitness at the club added, “They did not leave together, and I am not sure if they will see each other again. Tiger Woods’ and Lindsey Vonn’s relationship heats up It looks like things are heating up between golfer Tiger Woods and skier Lindsey Vonn. “Tiger and Lindsey have been friends for a while, and nothing started out romantically at all,” a source told People.com. “But they really have a lot in common and got closer and closer. He still refers to her as ‘my very good friend,’ but he’s been spending more and more time talking to her — and talking about her.” Vonn recently returned to the U.S. from Austria aboard Woods’ private jet after she fractured her shin and tore two ligaments in her right knee during the Alpine World Championships. A source close to Woods said that the 37year-old divorced golfer and the 28-yearold newly divorced World Cup champion skier talk and text frequently. “Tiger really does want a woman who he can have good conversations with,” the source said. “He wants shared interests and outlooks. He is finding that with (Lindsey).”
