Police raid Jamaican sprinters' hotel ROME (AP) Italian police confiscated unidentified substances Monday in a raid on the hotel where Jamaican sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson were staying, after each tested positive for banned stimulants. Rooms of the athletes and physical trainer Christopher Xuereb of Canada were searched and drugs and supplements were seized, Udine police captain Antonio Pisapia told The Associated Press. Pisapia said it was unclear if the substances were illegal, and that they were being analyzed. "We are examining the substances now," Pisapia said. "No arrests have been made and nobody has been placed under investigation." The raid took place at the Fra i Pini hotel in Lignano Sabbiadoro in northeastern Italy. Powell, a former world-record holder at 100 meters, and Simpson tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine at the Jamaican championships last month, their agent said Sunday. The police captain with the specialized NAS unit added that Powell and Simpson were informed of the positive tests Saturday morning. The raid came in stark contrast to the warm reception that the runners generally receive in Lignano, and the town's mayor, Luca Fanotto, recommended "caution" before drawing conclusions. "The Jamaican team has chosen the sports facilities of Lignano Sabbiadoro as their training base for years and they never forget to thank the city from podiums all over the world," Fanotto said in a statement. A local meet is scheduled for Tuesday in Lignano, and the Jamaicans had been scheduled to compete as they do most years. But neither Powell or Simpson was on start lists released Monday. The news of the positive tests for Powell and Simpson came the same day that American 100-meter record holder Tyson Gay revealed that he also failed a doping test. Powell was the last man to hold the 100-meter world record before Usain Bolt broke it in 2008. He also helped the Jamaicans to the 400-meter relay gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. Simpson won Olympic gold in the women's 400 relay in 2004 and silver in 2012, along with an individual Click Here to see silver in the 100 in 2008. the future NFL The doping positives come a month after another Hall-of-Famers Jamaican Olympic champion, Veronica CampbellBrown, tested positive for a banned diuretic.

Davis homers again

Chris Davis (right) is congratulated while rounding the bases for his 37th home run.

BALTIMORE (AP) With one final power surge before the All-Star break, Chris Davis earned himself a place in baseball's record book and generated momentum for the Home Run Derby.

Davis hit his 37th home run to tie the AL mark prior to the break, and the Baltimore Orioles cruised past theToronto Blue Jays 7-4 Sunday. Davis doubled in two runs in the first inning and hit a two-run homer in the third to give him 93 RBIs, second-most in the majors behind Detroit's Miguel Cabrera. He and Cabrera are the only players in major league history to have 30 homers and 90 RBIs before the All-Star game. "Superhuman," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "He's having some kind of year. I saw him a little bit when he was in Texas coming up. He could always hit home runs. He got his opportunity here to play every day and he's taken advantage of it. It's pretty impressive." By going deep in a fourth straight game, Davis equaled Reggie Jackson's AL mark of 37 homers before the break, set in 1969. The major league record is 39, by Barry Bonds in 2001. Davis has already reached career highs in home runs and RBIs with 66 games left in the regular season. "I think it's something definitely to be proud of," Davis said. "It means I've been doing my job, but it also speaks volumes about the guys in front of me getting on base and really swinging the bats well." Davis has been facing a shift lately, but there's no defending a ball that clears the wall. "You can't shift to the stands," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "They don't allow you to put anybody out there. So hit it where the grass doesn't grow." Davis will next put his sweet swing on display at the Home Run Derby on Monday night in New York. "I expect it to be a lot of fun," he said. "I think it's going to be definitely high energy, and I'm definitely looking forward to it.“Adam Jones homered and scored three runs for the Orioles. The home run was his 19th of the season and third in three games. Scott Feldman (1-1) allowed three runs and five hits over 7 1-3 innings to earn his first win with the Orioles in three starts since being traded from the Chicago Cubs on July 2. The right-hander struck out seven and walked one.

in win over Jays I"I think command-wise I was a little better today," he said. "I was able to throw in that first strike when I need to, which was helpful." After Maicer Izturis singled in a run in the ninth off Tommy Hunter, Jim Johnson got three outs for his 33rd save. zturis had three RBIs for the last-place Blue Jays, who staggered into the break with 13 losses in 20 games. Toronto dropped two of the three to the Orioles and fell to 4-11 in its last 15 games at Camden Yards. "Definitely frustrating," Gibbons said. "These four days will be good for us. A little breather (to) regroup. We will find out what we're made of and how good we are in the second half." Josh Johnson (1-5) yielded a career high-tying seven earned runs and seven hits in six innings. Johnson's only win in 12 starts this season came against Baltimore on June 23. "They hit him pretty well," Gibbons said. "First inning they dropped four on us. It's tough to come back from that." Baltimore bolted to a 4-0 lead in the first, getting hits from four of its All-Star selections: Manny Machado, Jones, Davis and J.J. Hardy. After Nate McLouth opened with a single, Machado singled and Jones hit an RBI single. Davis followed with a double into the right-field corner and Hardy capped the uprising with a run-scoring single, his 200th RBI with the Orioles. Davis made it 6-0 with an opposite-field drive to left after Jones drew a walk. "When you got guys hitting opposite field that are decent pitches," Johnson said, "it's tough." Izturis singled in two runs with two outs in the fourth, and Jones hit a solo shot in the fifth for a 7-2 lead. After Feldman gave up a single to Jose Reyes in the eighth, Hunter allowed a two-out RBI single to Juan Encarnacion. NOTES: The Orioles announced before the game that RHP Chris Tillman (11-3) was added to the AL All-Star squad. ... Baltimore has homered in 17 straight games against AL East foes, a franchise record. ... Actor Kevin Spacey threw out the ceremonial first pitch, floating a soft strike to pitcher Jim Johnson. ... Chris Dickerson, who came in 6 for 10 lifetime against Josh Johnson, went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts against the right-hander. ... Feldman improved to 1-4 in his career against Toronto. ... The Blue Jays lead the season series 7-6. The teams don't play again until Sept. 13.

2013 AFC South Fantasy Storylines UPDATED JUL 10, 2013 3:55 PM ET Here are three 2013 fantasy football storylines coming out of the AFC South I'll be paying attention to during training camp and through the end of August: 1) What should fantasy owners make of the Colts' signing Ahmad Bradshaw and Darrius Heyward-Beythis offseason? Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for over 1,000 yards with six scores despite missing a couple games in 2012. Heyward-Bey replaces Donnie Avery in the passing game - Avery was targeted 116 times last season. Still, Heyward-Bey's inconsistent production with Oakland leaves him third in the pecking order behind Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton 2) What do we make of Maurice Jones-Drew's fantasy football value in 2013? I think it's funny we're even discussing this Before missing 10 games last season (foot), MJD rushed for over 1,300 yards three straight seasons New "zone blocking scheme" in Jacksonville - same one that gave Darren McFadden fits in Oakland last season 3) Who will be the Houston Texans' second wide reciever to start the season? We all know about Arian Foster, Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels Former No. 2 WR, Kevin Walter, now with the Titans DeAndre Hopkins, the Texans first round pick, could line up opposite Johnson Week 1 He recorded over 1,400 receiving yards with 15 touchdowns his junior season at Clemson

Danica, boyfriend out in same accident

LOUDON, N.H. Danica Patrick triggered a three-car accident when she rear-ended her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The collision propelled Stenhouse into Travis Kvapil entering Turn 2 on Sunday to bring out the ninth caution on Lap 237. “Did he just right rear us?” Stenhouse asked over the radio. “No, it was the 10,” replied his spotter Mike Calinoff. Patrick had been running on the lead lap prior to contact with AJ Allmendinger on Lap 218. But after initial damage to her car, Patrick was just hoping for a decent finish. “What it felt like was either I misjudged the braking or everyone jammed up a little bit,” Patrick said. “I got sideways trying to slow down so that I didn’t drive up into the back of anyone. I just got sideways and there is nothing you can do. The worst part is that you know obviously I didn’t want to take anybody with me. I feel bad, what can I say. We were having a reasonable race and just didn’t mean to do it.” NOTE: Patrick completed 237 laps and was posted 36th at the time of her report. The car was in the garage under repair. She did not return, finishing 37th.

Anna Benson once a murder suspect? By: Fox Sports Anna Benson was back in the news last week when she was arrested for allegedly demanding $30,000 from her estranged husband after storming into his apartment clad in all-black, sporting a bulletproof vest and a host of weapons. But while we wait for the legal drama to play out for the wife of former MLB hurler Kris Benson, currently being held without bail in Georgia, a shocking story from her past has surfaced. Benson, then known as Anna Warren, was once the target of a national manhunt in connection to the slaying of an 18-year-old Knoxville man, according to an exclusive in the New York Daily News. The future "baseball's hottest wife" was 19 at the time of the 1996 slaying and sharing an apartment with her then-boyfriend Paul Dejongh. Police issued arrest warrants for both in the death of Michael Evans, a community college student preparing to enlist in the Navy. According to the Daily News, the lead investigator in the case says witnesses recalled Benson telling her boyfriend to "Get rid of him," after an argument in their apartment. Police were called to the apartment at 7:30 a.m., and determined that five people lived there. Benson and Dejongh were the only ones missing, having fled in a red 1992 Lexus and heading toward Georgia, according to the report. A manhunt soon followed and the pair were even featured on "America's Most Wanted." No, really. Here's the video evidence:Benson remained on the loose for the next five months, until she was picked up in Portland, Ore., reportedly sporting purple hair and a tongue ring. Dejongh was picked up in Atlanta two months later and was later convicted of first-degree murder in the case, only to have it overturned. He eventually pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge and was sentenced to 21 years. He died while serving his sentence. Prosecutors decided against a murder charge for Benson, instead pushing for an accessory charge, but that was dropped in May 1998, according to the Daily News report. Her lawyer at the time, Tom Dillard, told the Daily News that Benson's involvement was not criminal. “She didn’t do anything. There was no miscarriage of justice. The state couldn’t prove the case. There was no evidence that she was involved in assisting and abetting the shooter. “She was frightened, as you could imagine, and left the scene with this fellow. That was the only problem she had.” Michael Evans Sr., a nuclear engineer in Knoxville, told the Daily News he still believes Benson had something to do with his son's death. “She was definitely a part of the murder of my son. She’s a killer.” And he had some words of warning for Kris Benson. “This girl doesn’t care about human life. She’s a very dangerous person.” “I wish her husband the best. He made a big mistake.”

Motorcycle racer killed in Maine LIMESTONE, MAINE A motorcycle racer trying to top 300 mph died Sunday after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern Maine.

Bill Warner, 44, of Wimauma, Fla., was clocked at 285 mph before he lost control but it was unclear how fast the motorcycle was traveling when it veered off the paved runway and crashed, said Tim Kelly, race director of the Loring Timing Association, which hosted The Maine Event at Loring Air Force Base. Warner was conscious and talking after the crash just before 10 a.m., Kelly said, but he died about an hour and 15 minutes later at a hospital in Caribou. "No one will touch Bill's achievements or be the type of racer he was." Kelly said. "He was a personal friend and the land-racing community is less for his loss." Riding his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, Warner previously hit 311 mph on the same course in 2011, using 1.5 miles of pavement. That's considered to be the world land speed record for a conventional motorcycle, Kelly said. This time he was trying to hit 300 mph using just a mile of pavement, and he'd made several passes before the one in which he crashed, Kelly said. The Maine Event is an annual timedspeed event that utilizes the 14,200-foot-long runway at the former Strategic Air Command base that closed in 1994. The Loring Timing Association uses 2.5 miles of the runway for its events, and there's an additional buffer of 2,000 feet, Kelly said. On Sunday, about 400 spectators watched as Warner began veering right after passing the 1-mile mark, traveling upright for another 2,000 feet before exiting the runway and crashing, Kelly said. The remainder of Sunday's event was canceled. The Limestone Police Department and Maine State Police were investigating the crash.

USWNT to face Mexico at RFK Stadium The United States women’s national team will return to action on Sept. 3 when it takes on CONCACAF rival Mexico at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. (live, FOX Sports 1, Tuesday, 8 p.m. ET). The international match will be the first for the USA following the conclusion of the National Women’s Soccer League season, which will culminate with the championship game on Saturday, Aug. 31. The meeting between the two regional rivals in the nation’s capital will mark the first international soccer match on the new FOX Sports 1, America’s new sports network. “This event will only bring the players together for a few days, but as always, we relish the opportunity to play an international match,” said United States head coach Tom Sermanni. “Many of the US and Mexican players will be coming right out of their club seasons, so everyone should be fit. We know we will probably face Mexico in World Cup qualifying so it’s good to see them before that tournament. It’s also a positive to get in a match before we give our players a bit of a break in advance of the rest of our fall activity.” FOX Soccer will begin broadcasting NWSL games this coming weekend to kickoff exclusive coverage of nine total games, featuring six regular season matches and all three playoff games, including the title match on Aug. 31. FOX Soccer will televise one game per week over the final six weeks of the season with each club appearing at least once on national television leading up to the NWSL Playoffs. Puig uses baby to rip All-Star vote UPDATED JUL 15, 2013 2:20 AM ET

In his brief but amazing career, the Dodgers' Yasiel Puig has earned a reputation as a hitter, as a hardnosed player, as arrogant by opponents, and aloof with the media. But apparently that doesn't extend to social media. Check out what was posted to the phenom's Twitter account on Sunday night:

If you remember, Freeman, the Braves' first baseman, was selected by the fans over Puig to the NL All-Star team as part of the Final Vote, to the pleasure of some players. Freeman was injured on Saturday and is out of the game, replaced by teammate Brian McCann. After losing out on the vote, Puig tweeted out a thank you to his fans but remained mum on the results of the vote. Could he be letting a pouty-faced baby do the pouting for him? Along with the photo, Puig tweeted, roughly translated from Spanish, "Look at that little girl, what a beauty." The photo was one of several he tweeted. While the crying kid wore blue, the rest were of a girl in pink. No word on who either kid was, or if they were the same kid, but Puig sure seemed to take a liking to this girl:

Course OKs use of hovercraft carts

On July 27, Windy Knoll Golf Club will be the first course in the United States to feature two Neoteric Golf hovercrafts — made famous by a PR stunt featuring Bubba Watson in April — use as golf carts. Located in Springfield, Ohio, Windy Knoll is a public-access, links-style course. World Golf Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez and LPGA Player Paige Mackenzie will be on there for the hovercraft arrivals, along with Tim Rosaforte. The course is located on an old horse farm. “We wanted to be able to offer something no other course could,” said Managing Director Pete Duffey. His inspiration was from the YouTube video of Watson cruising around in his “BW1.” The two hovercrafts will feature a 65horsepower engine capable of reaching speeds up to 50 mph, side-by-side seating for a foursome, a lift-roof and room for two golf bags and sand bottles.
