It was the year 948 and Leonardo da Vinci had not yet given us his extraordinary inventions.

No, there was not even Dante and we would have to wait some time before reading the Divine Comedy.

Brunelleschi had not yet given the dome of Florence Cathedral nor Giotto the bell tower.

No, in this land called Tuscany

we did not even know of the existence of America.

Florence was just a small town and there were only uncultivated fields where Greve in Chianti would arise.

And yet in that long ago 948 the Pieve di San Cresci was already in place, on a beautiful hill in front of which, centuries later, Giovanni da Verrazzano born and Amerigo Vespucci gave the name to a continent.

This small hamlet has seen the Middle Ages, the Renassaince and the Enlightenment and has come down to us, continuing to ride along with history. Situated in a landscape as famous as their oil and wine , this place lives for and is dedicated to the arts.

You will be a member of a great network; it’s name will RES ARTIS! many artists will produce works in your place; you will encourage the creative dialogue and will organize artistic projects.

So, here Duccio and Demetria created a residence for artists.

Michelangelo would have appreciated this

and perhaps even Botticelli.

Galileo would have come here in refuge to observe the stars.

La Macina di San Cresci is a place where painters, sculptors, photographers, writers and artists of any media meet to converse and work.

Here in the 21st century the Parish Church of San Cresci is little more than a dot on Google Earth,

but it is a replete with history and we are confident of being able to continue offering artists here a creative place for a long time into the future.

The key outcome that we have experienced to be part of RES ARTIS are the bridges between countries and culture contributing to cultural diversity. This was in the past and will be in the future!
