editor's note There's only a "six-weeks" left in the first semester. Two more weeks of school until Thanksgiving break and then another two weeks after that until Christmas break. Looking back on everything that happened, it's hard to believe that time has passed so fast. But there is still so much left that we can do and there have been so many new things that we've done. It's never too late for change, and we found two people for officer positions and we are looking for one more, preferably a freshman, to complete our team! Throughout this newsletter, it will showcase our service opportunity events for November and some that will be for December - as there are a lot of events rolling out during this festive season. If you look to the right, you will be able to learn more about Lamar High School's wonderful president: Emily! Hope you enjoy, and happy reading!

letter from the president EMILY WILSON Howdy Key Club Members! We are almost at Thanksgiving break, the biggest relief for everyone. Hope you all had a Happy Halloween at the many Fall Festivals and Trunk or Treats we had this month. One of the things we’re looking forward to in November is introducing some new class representatives. With their help, it’ll be even easier for us to communicate with members, design slideshows, and get going with Key Club socials. Coming up, we’re also going to be continuing many of our in-person volunteering opportunities like making crafts with the Arlington Public Library and helping out at Swim Meets. We understand that everyone’s schedule is busy and are still offering many flexible online opportunities from Free Rice to Zooniverse. As our official member list is getting finalized and everyone becomes settled into routine, we want to encourage members to be unafraid to ask officers any questions they have. Lastly, we want to remind all members to take care of themselves and stay frosty!

scholar. One notable opportunity I took advantage of during this time was Texas Youth and Government. This event took place at the Austin capital, where my debate partner and I argued for the construction of new reservoirs to resolve Texas’ municipal water shortages. While this competition was insightful to my endeavors, it wasn't necessarily a service to the community.
I’ve been searching for nothing more than a compassionate, dedicated group of individuals seeking to improve the lives of the less fortunate, but after discovering Key Club, my search was concluded. There is simply no other family that aligns more with my deepest held values. I believe my involvement in Key Club this year and the coming year will start a butterfly effect throughout the remainder of my life, an effect that will positively impact not only those around me, but members of my community alike.

My favorite service event this year was outside of Key Club. My church serves Mission Arlington throughout the year, and over the summer we volunteered there a lot. Throughout one of the weeks of summer, we were at Mission Arlington for a whole week. We put on a vacation bible school for children in apartment complexes. This “daycare” is called Rainbow Express and we watch parents or guardians children for a part out of the day to relieve them of their stress and let them run their errands that would be difficult to do with kids. Each morning, we would go knocking on apartment complex doors asking if they had kids that would like to come out to their local playground for some bible school, games, snacks, puppet time, and fun! Normally the people answering the door would let their children come with us and with the children that we brought down each day, we would start with a time of games that we planned. After that we would have a puppet show where we would sing a Christian song or tell a short bible verse story. One of us would volunteer to share our testimony, our life story revolving around how we came to where we are today as a Christian, as well as share the message Mission Arlington provided for us for each specific day. There would be a follow up activity as well as snacks and social time for the kids to mingle and eat something.
13| My Favorite Service Event
This was my most memorable service event this year because of the childrens’ reactions on their faces during the whole time we saw them. No matter if we got many kids or only one or two, everyone was optimistic and grateful for the kids that came. This service event taught me humility as well as how to work with children. I was given the opportunity to practice my social skills as well as having my eyes opened to things that I was taking for granted. I took for granted having both parents at home, parents having a steady income, having not to worry about whether or not the next meal will be served, contemplating which clothes to wear and so many more gifts.
But no matter what circumstances these kids were in - they were always in a willing and cheerful heart to listen to what we had to teach about in the VBS. Their attitude that shone through the negative circumstances they were born in made this service opportunity, that I had the opportunity to serve, memorable.

We acknowledge that our current team is primarily seniors, and in accordance with our ongoing goal of overall club growth, our officer team is working to ensure that our students understand the importance and reward of giving back to the community through service. Additionally, we just introduced our new junior class representative, Luke Anderson, and sophomore class representative, Mariela Morales Orihuela, in hopes of growing a more diverse officer team in the years to come. With a growth mindset at our focal point, I can say with confidence that Lamar Key Club will continue to shine in the face of uncertainty and challenges. We will do everything possible to ensure that this curveball becomes the greatest grand slam of all time.
Alas, the superstar senior class eventually graduated, and the remains of our officer team was forced to build from the ground up. With all of our alumni leadership gone, a new club sponsor, a new Kiwanis representative, and no Lieutenant Governor to receive information from to add onto our straining circumstances, we were truly thrown a curveball. However, there is no mountain too high when it comes to service! Together, we worked to spread the word about Key Club and coordinate service opportunities that would promote growth not only in our own

MAJOR EVENT by Emily Wilson
Our Key Club is a dynamic, ever-changing organization that’s always moving forwards. Whether it’s finding new volunteer events, planning slideshows, or convening at board meetings, our club is always working on different projects to benefit our members and the community. One major project, or goal, our club has this year is to emphasize feelings of family within the club. It’s not always easy entering school organizations if you feel out of place, but I hope that students find Key Club becomes the place for them. From our encouraging officers to kind members, we want everyone to feel like they have a support system through Lamar Key Club Plans on how to bring members closer together include having many in-person socials and introducing class representatives for each grade. Our officer team has bounced around ideas from outdoor ice cream socials to coffee shop meetups so members can have some fun together.

WHAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH KEY CLUB By Moi Tungnung
I grew to love the club and I have even decided to take up a position as a leader as a result.
19 | What made me fall in love with key club
When it comes to transitioning from middle school to high school, every student is often faced with the decision of which club to invest their time in. For every individual, it’s a case by case situation as factors such as sports and extracurriculars may create preferences or limitations. However, when it comes to Key Club, it’s a club suitable for everyone and builds a community of its own. This has created my growing love for Key Club.
Upon the introduction of this club, many are usually unaware of the purpose and mission of Key Club. It is a community service based organization that seeks to help out the community by volunteer events. Such actions are easily possible and doable if an individual truly puts their mind to it. I believe this is the reason why many people can gather and be a part of this club. It’s a nondiscriminating space that is fit for anyone. Whether it be an individual with a tight schedule due to athletic responsibilities or an individual involved in many other extracurriculars, there is always a possible way to make time for Key Club. This is because the club is not a rigorous activity that consumes a lot of time. Instead, it’s efficient and the events can be based upon what is fitting for an individual person. Due to this factor, my love for this club stemmed. With the students who participate in the club, there is a gradual building in a like minded goal, which is to serve the community. It’s a known fact that any community in this world is run by the people within it in some form or way.
This is because it is the living space of the population. However, to maintain a suitable community, the inhabitants must put in effort to make it happen. Participants of Key Club become those inhabitants and take initiative in bettering the community. Gradually, these students will grow to have the same ideals and goals to serve the community whether it's in a big or small way. As the club gains this element, it creates an environment where a club is unified and holds one thing in common within everyone in the club. That is the love to serve the people around them and their community. As a result, this realization has caused the love I have for his club currently. I have participated in Key Club ever since I became a high school student up till the present as a senior. Due to its welcoming environment, convenience and built community, Key Club became a club I couldn’t get myself to leave. Because of it’s great qualities, I grew to love the club and I have even decided to take up a position as a leader as a result.
