OUR FEBRUARY FANTASY MENU THE GOURMET BOYS WE ARE THE GOURMET BOYS (aka Brian and Mark). We love eating out and always enjoyed putting lots of foodie photos on our own personal Facebook page, much to the irritation of some family and friends. “Who wants to see a load of food photos?” they grumbled, albeit amicably! Well, as it turns out, quite a few people really, who are keen to read recommendations on the best places to eat in Belfast and further afield. So, we set up The Gourmet Boys’ Facebook page (the name was actually suggested by a friend and it kind of stuck!). We’re now on Instagram as well. We decided to write a monthly “Fantasy Menu”. This would be a summary of our favourite starter, main and dessert during a particular month. Here’s our February 2020 Fantasy Menu.

little belters were not sizzling in a traditional garlic oil: there was a distinct citrus flavour to the warm blend of Asian spices. Lemongrass, perhaps? The king prawns were perfectly cooked, drenched in this appetising dressing, requiring a spoon to devour every last drop. Dessert Chocolate Brownie with Raspberry Sorbet: Buba (St Anne’s Square, Belfast) A knockout sweet treat. What more could you ask for on a chilly winter lunchtime than to banish the January blues with a warm gooey chocolate brownie. This indulgent treat had a nutty hit of cocoa-rich chocolate, perfectly accompanied by the tangy spark of raspberry sorbet. One of many fabulous dishes from Buba - a Gourmet Boys’ favourite in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.

We have tried to book Bo Tree Kitchen, unsuccessfully, a number of times, so we were thrilled to eventually get a table with a couple of friends and to sample a feast of Thai dishes. It’s really hard to choose our MAIN ET PAK GAENG PH absolute favourite TCHEN BO TREE KI because if you read our full review you will see that the Bo Tree Kitchen was awarded one of our rare “5 stars”. But one of the many outstanding mains was a deliciously coconutty vegetarian red curry, with a subtle, many-layered spicing. A visit to this hidden gem in the University area is an absolute must.

Starter Garlic Prawns: The East Bengal (Ballyhackamore, Belfast) Most of us have had garlic prawns before in some shape or form, as they pop up in various guises throughout many cuisines from around the world - but these were surprisingly different and perhaps a little bit special. These
