Greetings Key Clubbers! I hope you all are enjoying a service-filled fall. The impact that you have on your community is enormous and far reaching. Our actions inspire others to respond in kindness. Take a moment to think about the number of people your one club has touched just this fall. There are almost two hundred clubs in just the LAMISSSTENN District--and we are only one, small district in the Key Club world! Our communities both depend on us and trust that Key Club members will come through for them. And everyday in ways big and small, Key Club members show up and make a difference. So take a moment, think about how vital Key Club is to your community, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

Hello Key Clubbers, Are you ready to celebrate family? I can hardly wait for Thanksgiving. Food, football, and family! What a day! Well, it is also time to celebrate your Kiwanis family. November is Kiwanis Family month. A time to celebrate and participate with all of the clubs in the K-Family. Do you co-sponsor a Builders Club or KKids Club? If you do, plan a joint project or fun activity that includes them. If not ... START ONE. They can be just as excited about service as you are. Plan a joint project with your Kiwanis Club and take your parents. Show everyone the fun and rewards of belonging to the K Family. And to start it all; Kiwanis One Day (October 28) and KEY CLUB WEEK (November 6-11). Get out there and show everyone who you are and what you do. Key Club is a great experience and your classmates deserve to know it. So celebrate, participate, and enjoy your K Family!

By Ali Ali It's already October, that means Halloween, but also Trick or Treat for UNICEF! Trick or Treat for UNICEF is a way to change the world on Halloween night! Collect change to help eradicate the terrible disease of Maternal and Neo-Natal Tetanus. Trick-orTreat for UNICEF has empowered generations to make lasting change in their global community by collecting donations on Halloween to help save and protect children. Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF since 1994, raising over $7 million dollars for UNICEF. Since 2011, Key Club’s Trick-or-Treat donations have funded The Eliminate Project, which supports the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus globally. Get boxes at http://store.kiwanis.org/Product/Trick-or-TreatFor-UNICEF----Key-Club-K-Kids-Builders-Club--Aktion-ClubKI92014-2696.htm and order them from there! A newborn dies every 15 minutes from tetanus. You can change that, you can make that number 20, 25, 30 and eventually NEVER. Go out and collect change and then give them to your advisor. The clubs that raise the most money will be specially acknowledged at District Convention (DCON) in Baton Rouge this year. Go make your club and the WORLD shine bright.

By Samuel Freiberger It is easy to fall into a rut with your service projects. You do a project, and it goes well, so you do it again and again. Projects that can be completed successfully and regularly are important, but it is also important to reach out into your community and look for new service opportunities. You can do this in a number of ways. First, encourage your club members to think of issues that they would like to work on in your community. Brainstorming is a great way to get some ideas into the open and start what could be your club’s next great project. It is also a good idea to ask adults, Kiwanians, and other community leaders what they think needs to be improved. These people often have great insight into the major issues facing your community. If the issue is one that is relevant to your members, they are far more likely to get involved and spread the word. Building projects around issues that are close to peoples hearts is also very helpful when it comes time to promote your project. When members care about a project, they are far more likely to try to get as many people involved as they possibly can. Get information out on social media. Send emails. Make phone calls. Do whatever it takes to let everyone know how they can help in their community. People are ready and willing to contribute to projects that they think are worth their time. Good luck and happy service!!

By Laura Capadona Ponchatoula High School Key Club President Division 13A Our clubs journey with the Ponchatoula Afterschool Outreach Program began at a Ponchatoula Kiwanis Luncheon this summer, when Mrs. May Stilley, the program's director, visited to ask for assistance from the K Family. Her main needs were funding for laptops and volunteers to work with the children of the program. After the meeting, we exchanged contact information and I promised to do my best to get Key Club involved. I immediately texted my sponsors, who welcomed the idea of the prospective service project. A few days before the program started, Vice President Luke Daniels and I spent the day at the community center organizing supplies, preparing rooms, and attending the ribbon cutting ceremony. The program has become our most prominent, ongoing service project. Members have the opportunity to volunteer at the center Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5:30 p.m., assisting children with homework, playing games, and most importantly, being a positive influence in the lives of youth. Regular volunteers will have the opportunity to attend a special dinner later this month, where the afterschool students and their families will "create stars of hope" to send to devastated areas such as Houston and Puerto Rico. Participating in this program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my Key Club career.
