Landscape THE INDUSTRY TRADE SHOW

As part of LANDSCAPE’s ongoing commitment towards uniting the industry and enhancing the professional qualifications of it’s practitioners, all of the seminars at this year’s LANDSCAPE Show will qualify for CPD learning points. This accreditation means that attending any of the Seminar Sessions hosted in all theatres now counts towards delegates’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

YOU CAN GAIN UP TO 11 POINTS AT LANDSCAPE SHOW!

CPD is defined as ‘a commitment to structured skills enhancement and personal or professional competence’ and organisations that are granted membership by the CPD Certification Service must clearly demonstrate expertise in their field and provide a place for industry to turn to for advice and guidance. LANDSCAPE which opens in Battersea Park, London on the 18th of September 2018, will be running an extensive free two-day seminar programme. The full programme will be available to view online nearer the time of the show at www.landscapeshow.co.uk. On achieving CPD certification for the programmes, Event Director Jeremy Storey-Walker says: “We are delighted to offer visitors to LANDSCAPE the broadest range of free and relevant content delivered by some of the highest-level experts in the industry. We believe this exciting offer is enhanced further through the ability of delegates at these presentations to credit their attendance towards their CPD.” “Being accepted as a member of the CPD Certification Scheme also reinforces the quality of LANDSCAPE’s seminar programme and the real value that delegates can gain from attending these sessions.”

Attendees will receive their Certificates of Attendance at the end of each session they attend. Register for your FREE tickets to attend by visiting www.landscapeshow.co.uk

AIPH Since 1948, AIPH has united horticultural producers in an international community that thrives to this day. Much has changed in that time. Technologies advanced, cities rose from the ground, and we have become more connected than ever. As a result, our essential bond with nature has been weakened.

WOODLODGE PRODUCTS LTD Woodlodge, the UK’s leading supplier of garden pots, has been partnering with the garden retail industry’s charity, Greenfingers, and the UK’s leading terminal illness support charity, Marie Curie in 2018 to raise vital funds and awareness. Two special Woodlodge plant pots have been launched into the retail market, with a percentage from each pot sold set to be donated to each charity. Greenfingers, the charity, dedicated to creating inspiring gardens for children who spend time in hospices around the UK, is set to benefit from sales of a new terracotta pot from Woodlodge. The Marie Curie charity pots also come as stackable pots, available in three different colours all showcasing the charity’s well recognised daffodil logo, with Woodlodge donating 75p per pot sold to the charity. Over the years, Woodlodge has been successful in raising considerable amounts of money for many worthwhile causes including The World Owl Trust and The Honeypot Children’s Charity following sales of its themed planters. Woodlodge are also a licenced partner to The National Trust, where for each product sold a contribution is made to the National Trust to help look after and conserve their properties and gardens. To find out more about Woodlodge’s market leading product offering, visit their stand at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park!

AIPH strives to reignite and uphold an appreciation of plants that we believe is a basic human instinct. We support the work of grower associations globally and together we champion a prosperous industry, growing plants that enhance lives, advance societies and sustain our planet, for this generation and the next. AIPH is committed to being the ‘world’s champion for the power of plants’. The LANDSCAPE Show provides access to the latest ideas and products for greening our world for the future and we are happy to be supporting the event for another year.

DUPONT DuPont will be showcasing its Plantex professional range of landscaping solutions for the first time at the LANDSCAPE Show, September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park, London. A complete range of smart and innovative products for landscaping professionals, DuPont Plantex landscaping products are designed for the control of green areas, in a natural environmental friendly way. The Plantex product range includes high quality, chemical free landscape fabrics, designed for long-term weed control and products designed specifically for the control of aggressive and invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed. APL The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) accredits landscape companies who design, build and maintain gardens throughout the UK against a strict inspection process on an annual basis. This ensures that we can promote our members to the public knowing they will offer a professional service to the best of our ability. The rigorous inspection process to join is one of the toughest within the industry. The APL is the only landscaping scheme operator of Trustmark, a Government endorsed initiative that promotes professional trades to consumers. With garden designers, landscape architects and contractors all visiting The LANDSCAPE Show, the APL believe it is an important event in the landscaping calendar to support and take part in. Networking with industry peers is a great way to share information and promote the benefits of APL membership, so it would be foolish to miss out!

APC FORKS APC Forks are able to offer nationwide hire of the JCB Teletruk. With a fleet of 130 plus units and a flexible approach towards hiring, they can satisfy most customers’ needs. This unique small machine combines the functions of a counterbalanced forklift with those of a re-handling shovel. So it is truly the most unique and flexible forklift in the market place today. Every year APC Forks have a JCB Teletruk in unique livery, in the past they’ve had a silver unit to celebrate 25 years of their sister business Arnold Plant Hire, a green unit in aid of the NSPCC and even two units in blue for Guide Dogs to support the charity, where money raised enabled a puppy in training to be named Arnold. With both a two and four wheel drive available and all round visibility, the JCB Teletruk is certainly superior to conventional forklifts, making it one of the safest machines available. This year, as they have yet to find a customer or potential charity to dedicate, APC Forks have opted for a JCB Teletruk with Union Jack livery. They’re on the hunt for some exciting suggestions of companies and charities for their unique livery machine, whilst displaying their services at their stand in the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Be sure to pop by and see what they have to offer!

We support The LANDSCAPE Show as we strongly believe in collaborating with our partner organisations as part of our vision. The LANDSCAPE Show are also an important member of the All Party Parliamentary Group, helping us to lobby MPs to recognise the importance of our industries.

LOKNAN Over the past year, Loknan have been focusing on their product development and listening to their client’s requirements in order to ensure that they can best provide their exterior timber needs. One of the most common product requests they received was for composite decking and so with their partners they launched Dual Deck composite decking in April this year. There are four main colours available, which are Antique, Carbon, Redwood and Oak. This product has all the features of a typical WPC board such as longevity, low maintenance, anti-slip and strength, but with a genuinely wood-like appearance and at a great price. Loknan will be showcasing their exciting new Dual Deck range alongside examples of the bespoke work that they have done over the past year including trellising, pergolas and seating at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park. Be sure to drop by to discuss any designs that have any unique elements and find out how Loknan can help you!

LINCOLNSHIRE POND PLANTS LTD With a long dry summer and wildlife in abundance, thoughts of lazing by the water relaxing help us get through the working day. Hardwork and nissen hut rendering is taking place as well as the race to keep up with the pace of plant growth. Therefore, for any wildlife pond it is important to think about the submerged, floating, emerge and marginal plants. Looking at the submerged plants these provide oxygen as well as safety for small fry, native varieties consist of: Common Water-Starwort Callitriche Stagnalis, Spiked Water-Milfoil Myriophyllum Spicatum, Hornwort Ceratophyllum Demersum, Water-Crowfoots Ranunculus Aquatilis and Water-Violet Hottonia Palustris. Thinking of marginal plants native species include Marsh Marigold Caltha Palustris, Water-Plantain Alisma Plantagoaquatica, Water Mint Mentha Aquatica, Lesser Spearwort Ranuculus Flammula, Greater Spearwort R. Longua, Water Forget-Me-not Myosotis Scorpioides, Brooklime Veronica Beccabunga, Ragged-Robin Lychinis Flos-cuculi, Purple Loosestrife Lythrum Salicaria, Bogbean Menyanthes Trifoliata, Meadow-Sweet Filipendula Ulmaria, Water Horsetail Equisetum Fluviatile, Mare’s-tail Hippuris Vulgaris, Yellow Iris Pseudacorus, Flowering-rush Butomus Umbellatus, Branched Bur-reed Sparganium Erectum and Lesser BulrushTypha Angustifolia. Do remember it is quite common until the water community becomes a balanced system, for a new pond to pass through an ‘algal phase’, which often persists for one or two summers. Cover for a pond can be provided by floating plants or lilies that produce large leaf cover. Lincolnshire Pond Plants will be on hand to advise you on all their product offerings at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th in Battersea Park. Come along to find out more!

Professionals will benefit from the ever increasing range of industry speakers and have a unique opportunity to network. It is not unusual for our members to be on first name terms with the CEO of large suppliers as a result of meeting them at Landscape. As well as speakers and exhibitors, visitors will benefit from networking with other professionals they meet. We look forward to seeing all the familiar faces of our industry colleagues at LANDSCAPE 2018! We will also be happy to talk to anyone who is considering garden maintenance as their career.

Lumena Lights will be showcasing their brand new look at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th in Battersea Park. Be sure to come by and pick up a copy of their coveted catalogue.

BOOT & DART NURSERIES Boot & Dart Nurseries have decades of experience in research and development of new plant varieties specifically for mass planting on Landscape Projects. One of their specialities is Landscape Roses, a healthy, lowering growing, repeat flowering variety that requires the minimal level of maintenance. Most of these varieties require an annual and biennial trim with hedge clippers and that is about it! So they’re pretty easy to manage having the ability to grow on their own roots so are also non-suckering. Most Landscape Roses are marked under the ‘Sports Series’ which includes some of the much acclaimed: Rosa ‘Rugby’ in cream, Rosa ‘Marathon’ in bright pink and Rosa ‘Roland Garros’ in yellow. Boot & Dart Nurseries are proud to be able to provide the Landscape Roses plant variety in bare root, with a 1.5 litre plastic pot or 1.5 litre biodegradable pot to suit the needs of any client. You can catch Boot & Dart Nurseries at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th and 19th at Battersea Park in London, where they’ll be showcasing a variety of their cutting-edge and innovative creations for all to see. Be sure to come along and find out how you can get your hands on some unique living plants!

GREENFINGERS Greenfingers is a national charity dedicated to creating magical and inspiring gardens for life-limited children and their families who spend time in hospices across the UK. To date the charity has created over 50 gardens nationwide but still has a waiting list of hospices that desperately need their help now. Last year Greenfingers Charity exhibited at the LANDSCAPE Show for the first time, and this year the team is very much looking forward to being there again. Speaking about the Show, Linda Petrons, Head of Fundraising and Communications said “We love being part of the LANDSCAPE Show as it’s provides us with a great opportunity to promote the work of the charity and showcase the amazing gardens our designers and landscapers have created. It’s also a fabulous opportunity to catch up with old friends and also create new contacts who may want to support future Greenfingers garden projects.” Greenfingers Charity works with professional designers and landscapers and relies on support from both within and outside the gardening industry to be able to do their work. As the charity approaches its 20th Anniversary, the year ahead will present many individuals and businesses with the opportunity to get involved, generate good PR and help to make a difference to children and families in hospices. HEDGES DIRECT This month Hedges Direct is proud to support Bowles and Wyer’s Max Harriman on his quest to become the RHS Young Garden Designer of the Year. Max contacted Hedges Direct with a view to find the ideal green screen to border the garden and provide privacy and an ideal backdrop to his design 'Calm in Chaos’. The garden was designed as a green oasis in an urban setting to ‘escape from the stresses of urban life’. Featuring a meandering path with varied textures and a beautiful curved wooden bench in front of a small reflecting pool, along with planting reminiscent of a forest floor and being far removed from an urban environment, the garden is designed to encourage user to maximise their time spent enjoying it and so gain the most respite. Wooden posts angled backwards provide an enclosed space without feeling restricted. Hedges Direct provided stunning Hornbeam Instant hedging (1m troughs at 150-175cm high) to reflect the planting ethos and to create the green screen that provided the finishing touches to the garden allowing it to feel private and separate from its surrounding, as intended. The garden was awarded a Silver-Gilt medal by the RHS and as part of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations it will be relocated to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, to provide a restorative haven for patients, friends and families to enjoy. For more information on their range of Instant Hedging and other products visit hedges Direct at their stand in the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park.

The Institution of Lighting Professionals is an open and collaborative organisation that works proactively with architects, interior designers and specifies to integrate quality lighting into the built environment. We promote best practice by uniting the skills of engineering, design and technology to deliver great spaces for people. Visit www.theilp.org.uk for more information. We are supporting The LANDSCAPE Show because we promote excellence in all forms of lighting one area including lighting landscapes. Our publication ‘Lighting Landscapes’ gives guidance on implementing successful lighting within the public realm. It starts from one basic premise – that public space, is a crucial component of successful, well-functioning towns and cities in which people can work, relax and socialise in a harmonious manner. But at the same time, even the best-designed public squares, parks, pedestrian areas and gardens, which may be havens of sociability or serenity by day, can become unprepossessing, and even threatening, places after dark. One major aim of our guide is to inspire those responsible for commissioning and funding to recognise the numerous benefits of good landscape lighting and put such lighting at the centre of the design of new or refurbished urban spaces, parks and gardens.

MR RESISTOR Mr Resistor, lighting specialist since 1968, offers a huge range of outdoor lighting products and controls for any project. INO WOOD The InoDeck terrace systems are installed using wooden plastic composite (WPC) terrace boards, galvanised metal cross beams, rear curtain profiles and special stainless-steel holders. The terrace boards are produced from recycled secondary raw materials such as window plastic and wood dust, therefore the composite has the characteristics of both materials. For example, the boards are similar to real wood but are as durable and long-lasting as plastic. The InoDeck solution does not require periodic maintenance of the terrace (repainting, rebuilding, etc.), its resistant to rot and fungal effects, UV rays, fire, temperature fluctuations, as well as water and moisture. One of Ino Wood’s latest projects includes a modern terrace, located in the business centre in Vilnius. The “Park Town” office complex stands out not only for its architectural expression, but also for an exceptional, comfortable environment, perfect for a modern person! The architect Gintautas Baranaukas designed the recreation area of the business centre, applying innovative small architectural solutions. A terrace of 170m² has a recreation area with unique wood-plastic composite benches and other interior attributes that create a particularly soothing atmosphere for the office workers. For the project, Ino Wood’s ‘Solid 20’ WPC terrace boards were used in a two colour combination of grey which was especially created in the Ino Wood factory by their technologists. Together with architects and designers, Ino Wood searched for a number of technical solutions specifically for this project and created WPC profiles for the installation of the original benches. You can catch Ino Wood displaying their products at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park. Be sure to pop by their stand to find out more!

PRO LANDSCAPE BY DRAFIX SOFTWARE Chris Walter of CLD Designs had the opportunity recently to reach into his toolbox and pull out one of his favourite tools; PRO Landscape Design Software. While working on another project in his community, a neighbouring homeowner approached and wanted to know if Chris could help him with his property. “I grabbed my iPad with the PRO Landscape app and walked over with the homeowner to take a look at his property” said Walter. “The landscape didn’t look terrible it just needed a little freshening up. It wasn’t going to be a huge job, but something I could easily design and bid right onsite with the software.” “The customer wanted to add a little colour and get rid of the feeling that everything was the same boring tone” Walter exclaimed. “I took a few pictures of the front of the property and with the customer standing next to me, started dragging and dropping in items from the PRO Landscape plant library. Within about 15 minutes, I had created three different visual options the customer could choose from.” He stated.

It is the perfect arena to talk to our members and to engage with potential new members who come to the show looking for inspiring products and services and to take part in the varied talk programme. We are looking forward to returning again this year.” Sarah Morgan MSGD, SGD Chair.

The customer made his choice and Chris and his crew started work the next day. “PRO Landscape is the one tool I can count on. In this case, it helped me turn a single job into a second job in a short amount of time with a small amount of effort” said Walter. PRO Landscape will be showcasing their incredible products and services at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park. Come and see exactly how Chris and many other people can make this happen using PRO Landscape.

STONE FEDERATION

URBAN STREET DESIGNS Urban Street Designs most recent project included working from concept to design development of a Pergola in Milton Keynes. The Bespoke Statement Pergola is manufactured from slim mild steel sections and powder coated in an anthracite grey. It was delivered to the client in a 13 piece flat pack for easy and quick assembling. Tensile wires stretched across one section of the pergola and down its back legs using the bespoke brackets, creating a path for a climber to grow. Steel tubular panels were also fully fabricated into two screens and powder-coated, creating shade and privacy on the other side of the pergola. The Bespoke Pergola gave the garden a real wow factor, acting as a statement piece without taking up valuable space. It was also utilised as an archway, framing the entrance to a raised area of the garden.

TREE AID

THE GARDENERS GUILD LLP

TREE AID is an International Development Charity which helps people lift themselves out of poverty and protect the environment. People in this part of the world live in some of the toughest conditions on earth and trees are essential to their survival. In Africa, trees mean life and provide nutrition, generate income and help to create a healthy environment.

At the Gardeners Guild, they work hard to ensure that website visitor numbers grow as memberships grow.

Last year was a very successful year for TREE AID; as they planted 1.1 million trees, protected 55,000 hectares of land and supported almost 393,000 people across the drylands of Africa.

Last year, they made a number of upgrades to their website to make it mobile compatible, improving the user experience whilst ensuring that their search engine optimisation strategy was completely search engine friendly.

In 2017 TREE AID helped thousands of people to realise the potential of trees. 178 enterprise groups in Ghana are now selling their tree products, shea and baobab fruits including to the largest wholesaler in Northern Ghana.

This month, Google email The Gardeners Guild to say that ‘Mobile-first indexing has been enabled for http://www.thegardenersguild.co.uk...this means that you may see more traffic in your logs from Googlebot Smartphone…Our analysis indicates that the mobile and desktop version of your site are comparable.’ Leaving the Gardeners Guild elated to see the changes they made had a positive impact on their website.

TREE AID will have an even greater impact over the coming five years as they scale-up their work.

The Gardeners Guild achieves high Google page positions for a variety of search phrases including ‘find a gardener’, ‘qualified gardeners’, ‘gardeners in London’, ‘garden maintenance in August’ as well as many others. Part of their changes included the addition of a Consultant category to membership for gardeners who are both well qualified and experienced. Would you like to be found by people who are looking to pay for garden advice? Come and talk to The Gardeners Guild at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th to see how they can help support the next phase of your career!

Over the next financial year TREE AID are aiming to plant over 1 million trees and regenerate a further 500,000. They will also be supporting 138,239 households through their programmes. These targets fit into their strategic goals (2017-2022), which are: Plant almost six million trees across Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Mali and Ethiopia, Increase income for 15,000 households by 25% and to be directly helping more than 300,000 households. Over the next 5 years Tree Aid will be planting 1 tree every 30 seconds across the drylands of Africa. TREE AID is delighted to be exhibiting at the LANDSCAPE Show for the second year this September and they are hoping to continue to spread their message and extend the charity’s reach.

GILES HEAP CED STONE GROUP

Keen to discuss their ‘Health & Wellbeing Garden’ for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show with the experts, gardens designer Alexandra Noble and Ed Burnham from Burnham Landscapes visited CED Stone Group at their West Thurrock depot. Alexandra presented her designs, which included some very narrow, tightly curved footpaths, to Managing Director Giles Heap. Alexandra was keen on using CED’s Clay Pavers in a dark, uniform shade for the paths as she liked the rustic style they would bring to her garden. Drawing on his knowledge, Giles advised

that the tight radius of the path’s circles couldn’t be created with the longer rectangular-shaped Clay Pavers. It would be difficult to achieve a definitive, curved finish, especially in the internal curves.

that build work would have to be kept as minimal as possible for Ed’s team. Giles, Ed and Alexandra discussed different options for the paths, such as gravel sections in the tighter circles.

The teams at CED Stone Group know that it can be tricky to specify the perfect material for a scheme, but there’s always an alternative and their expertise makes them well placed to find the best solution.

Everything changed when Giles showed them some Porphyry Setts. Alexandra immediately loved their darker purple tones and their aged, reclaimed texture. Giles showed them some pictures of Porphyry Setts traditionally laid in curved fan patterns in Italian and Spanish squares and piazzas and that sealed the deal.

Alexandra and Ed were working within tight budgets as well as show deadlines, meaning

HOOK UP SOLUTIONS Landscaping materials are often delivered in either bulk tonne bags or pallets and dropped off at kerb-side which then needs to be transported to the rear of the property. You will be pleased to know that there is a very simple, safe and cost effective way to shift these materials to the heart of your site, Hook up Solution’s HOOKA machine! Although only one metre wide, the HOOKA machine can lift one and a half tonne, so it’s the perfect solution for moving all your landscaping materials and a lot more. Recently, Artisan Landscapes hired one of Hook up Solution’s machines, with an operator, as they were working on creating a water feature for a stunning garden in Bristol. They had three large granite spheres, contained in wooden crates, that needed to be transported from the front and through a beautiful well established large garden and then installed as part of the water feature. Delicate lawns were simply protected with ply-wood boards and the HOOKA lifted all the crates onto the bed and safely transported them through narrow pathways through to the site. The spheres were then lifted over raised beds and carefully lowered into position. Hook up Solutions were pleased to report that the job went to plan and the customer was very happy as they could not think of any other way of transporting them through the narrow pathways. So the HOOKA was the best tool for the job! Hook up Solutions will be showcasing their amazing products at their stand in the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park. DANNY CLARKE THE BLACK GARDENER

Being a part of the Instant Gardener BBC TV Series has given Danny the opportunity to design and build gardens much further afield because of the programmes wide viewing exposure. The venue for his most recent project was a beautiful town in Cornwall called Saint Columb Major. As he is based in South East London, distance was a logistical challenge. However, the client and Danny agreed to reconfigure the garden in three bite-sized visits. The first being to

strip back the area, the second to implement the hard landscaping and lastly being to add and rejig the planting.

her gorgeous British bull terrier, was looking for an area that represented their quirky personality.

Fortunately, Danny was able to live at the property whilst working there, which simplified the task of being away from home. The customer introduced Danny to a highly skilled builder and together they set about implementing the transformation.

In Danny’s mind, although the land was lovely and well stocked with architectural plants, he felt it was looking rather tired and in need of reenergising. So he suggested installing an arch, a seating area, a wildlife pond and a hammock on the lawn all of which enhanced the tropical look typical of many gardens of that region.

The property owner who loves her outside space and along with

GREEN GARDEN PAVING PorcelPave have launched a number of ultrarealistic stone effect porcelain paving ranges this year that make the porcelain vs. stone decision an easy one. These hard-wearing slabs are stain resistant, completely frost proof and will not fade or change colour. They are also resistant to moss and mould growth thanks to their low porosity. For fans of traditional stone floor covering there a two new ranges that really stand out. Multi-Slate is a slate effect slab that features a high variation of grey, brown and copper tones that create a natural look. Anyone looking for a lighter colour might want to order a sample of Athena Silver; a silver travertine lookalike that has a light grey base with authentic looking marbling. Although stone often has a traditional feel, the Quartzite range manages to feel extremely contemporary. Available in Anthracite, Beige and Silvery Grey, the 600x600 slabs are 20mm thick and made from vitrified porcelain which means they frost proof, stain resistant and extremely strong. Quartzite has some subtle variation in colour as well as riven-effect pattern and texture that adds to their convincing stone-finish. ADRIAN GRAY STONEBALANCING SCULPTURES Adrian Gray’s recent purchase of 14 tonne crane has allowed him to move forward with his goal of creating larger and more improbable stone balancing sculptures. In the past he has hired machinery and operators to assist, but with his own plant he now has the freedom to work to his schedule, the vagaries of the weather and more importantly not under any time restraint. Balancing huge boulders is not an easy proposition and although sometimes you get lucky and balance them quickly, usually it is more a case of careful and intricate adjustments and precise stropping that wins the day. For Adrian’s monumental sculptures, he generally sources his stones from a Cornish company near Bodmin. Adrian has built a good relationship with the owners and he now keeps his crane on their farm which means he can spend plenty of time choosing the best rocks and then balancing and fabricating the internal fixings on site. For his last two monumental sculptures in Scotland and Ibiza, Adrian used locally sourced stones which he balanced on site and then fixed in their balanced position to create a permanent installation. From his very first sculpture featured on Grand Designs Adrian Gray is described as a “stone whisperer” having received great accolade from the show. Adrian Gray is continuing to inspire the industry through his work. He will be exhibiting as part of the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park, be sure to come along and see the exciting products he has on offer!

JOHN WYER BOWLES & WYER

“We really don’t know what to do with our garden. It’s basically four acres of mud” exclaimed their client. But what an amazing four acres it was! This beautiful spot overlooked a quiet valley of outstanding beauty in the Hertfordshire end of the Chilterns. Bowles & Wyer’s client had lived on the site for more than a decade before commissioning a local architect to design a striking contemporary house that is both uncompromising and resonant of local barn architecture. The kitchen and family room looked

out on to a neighbouring plot of ancient woodland which was also owned by the client, and this was a hinge point for the design. John Wyer’s scheme included terraces of herbaceous planting retained by low gabion walls, an exercise in balance between airy and light and the solid mass of stone. The planting caught the late sun streaming through the woodland. The impressive view over the valley opened up to the north.

Originally, the planers asked for a fence six metres from the house, but John persuaded them that his ‘invisible’ low ha-ha was a better option, which also maximised the view for the client. The wider garden included broad sweeps of meadow, sprinkled with wild flowers which face through the late summer to seed heads. DEBBIE CARROLL STEP CHANGE DESIGN

Ahead of their talk next month at our show we caught up with Debbie Carroll from Step Change Design who said: “There isn’t one type of care home so our design support must adapt to suit the whole setting, including its care practices. We recruited a very diverse range of care settings into our research project but what we hadn’t anticipated was that this diversity went beyond the different garden sizes, numbers of residents or current garden facilities. It also included a spectrum of care practices, from

homes that were ‘task-oriented’ in how they delivered care to a much more advanced form of care culture we called ‘relationship-centred’.

support must be equally flexible and adaptable to match the care setting’s current care culture and corresponding capacity to actively use their new or improved garden.

We plotted these practices onto our Care Culture Map tool and began to notice that there was a second spectrum in attitudes and engagement levels with the outside space around the care setting too. These attitudes and beliefs about the outside space need to inform the design intervention and so our design

To aid this dialogue between designer and care setting, we have developed a new approach that we call ‘Relationship-Centred Design’. It is based on working with where the care setting currently is (in their attitudes and practices relating to the outside space) and not where we think they should be, or wish them to be.

Come along to their presentation on Tuesday 19th September to find out more about how assessing care culture, and their poster-sized Map tool and Handbook, can help you before you start designing.

EUROPLANTERS LTD The former Equity building, Station Square is a development of 67 contemporary one and two bedroomed apartments adjacent to Colchester’s main train station and just outside the vibrant city. These stylish apartments have two carefully planned communal areas, both of which Europlanters are proud to have contributed towards. The central courtyard on the first floor consists of a communal seating area using Europlanters’ floating benches on planters and 20 additional planters. By attaching the planters together, the planters create a larger planting bed forming an attractive secluded garden and tranquil setting out of the hustle and bustle of the city. The planters were sprayed in a RAL7016 Matt to compliment the building’s exterior. The indoor garden and lower courtyard was designed to incorporate a unique open roof light creating an open-air atrium big enough to allow a large tree to take advantage of the elements. Around this centrepiece seating an additional 46 planters in a dark copper finish complimented the rich interior décor. “This was an exciting project to be involved in” said Callum Garvey, estimator at Europlanters. “This unique design was achieved using our standard size products and therefore worked well, within the client’s budget.” Europlanters will be exhibiting at the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. UPM BIOCOMPOSITES LTD UPM Profi Deck was designed in Finland in 2017 to answer safety and maintenance concerns about the use of timber products for balconies. UPM ProfiDeck performs perfectly for balconies and has accessories that help the installation go quickly and easily including a low profile Aluminium support rail when low door thresholds present height issues. Their recent project at Honeypark, Dublin was a complex of 300 apartments, many with balconies that needed a low maintenance performance which provide a good slip resistance. The architect wanted to find a contemporary colour that complimented the handrail and sliding doors. UPM ProFi 150 in Stone Grey was the obvious choice and the building contractor was so pleased with the ease of installation that they will use the product on the neighbouring scheme too. UPM ProFi Deck is safe for children and pets too, meeting EN71-3 so the householder or flat tenants can have peace of mind that their children and pets can play safely on the balcony, an extension of the lounge. GYNELLE LEON PRICK

Prick sees cacti and succulents as living sculptures that take years to fully develop. Store founder Gynelle Leon explains, “They are a beautiful and sustainable way to transform any interior. Due to their low maintenance and hardy nature, they’re well suited to modern city living.” With a unique perspective on plant life, Prick believes every great plant deserves an equally great pot. So with art and design being a strong focus, Prick’s latest venture includes their in-house designed small contemporary

terracotta pots, dubbed ‘Prick Pots’, created to perfectly fit their plants. In addition, Prick champions local artists by showcasing carefully selected pieces to build a growing display of handmade ceramic pots making it possible to come to the store and purchase a complete package that will complement any modern interior. Prick therefore is a stark contrast to conventional garden shops or florists. It makes shopping for plants as enjoyable as shopping

for clothes. The plants are well cared for, top quality specimens, stored in Gynelle’s greenhouse and all re-potted before being sold to ensure they are healthy and well. Prick will also be a place to hang out, admire and enjoy the beauty of some very rare and mature cacti and succulent plants with a growing assortment of plant-related literature, accessories and drinks on offer as time goes on. With big plans in the horizon, Prick is shaping up to be the definitive place for all your cactus and succulent needs.

You can catch Prick’s founder, Gynelle Leon speaking as part of a panel discussion at the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Be sure to come along to learn more on the beauty of succulents!

ECODEK Ecodek have collaborated with Gripsure to develop Gripsure Ecodek. Designed to create the UK’s leading non-slip decking board for critical slip applications, Gripsure Ecodek combined the benefits and product qualities of Ecodek recycled Wood Polymer Composite decking, featuring the non-slip inserts manufactured in the UK with market leading Gripsure aggregate threads. The Gripsure non-slip threads have a five year non-slip performance warranty and are made with Guyanan Calcined Bauxite aggregate bonded into inserts within Ecodek deck boards. Even with a natural high slip resistance, there are some applications where critical safety means collaborating with other market leading specialists to develop the highest performing solution to suit the most demanding applications. Therefore Gripsure Ecodek is made by injecting resin into specially routed grooves of Ecodek boards and coating with an aggregate finish. The result is an anti-slip insert that is bonded to the board. Because the resin is applied in liquid form, the inserts are sealed into the grooves which mean water cannot get in-between the board and the inserts. Water ingress can often occur with retrofitted treads where water can make contact with the board and cause it to swell and pop the inserts out. Offering two ranges of board profiles, Ecodek Heritage and Ecodek AT, Specifiers, Developers and Architects are now able to choose from a range of colours and profile finishes for commercial projects and developments that will offer the highest non-slip rating, all yearround performance and durability to their clients. Ecodek will be displaying their products as part of their exhibition at the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Come along to see and learn more!

IAN DRUMMOND

CREATIVE DIRECTOR - INDOOR GARDEN DESIGN

Indoor Garden Design was invited to create planting installations for Kobalt Music, the offices of a dynamic and talented group of young music producer millennials. Adverse to anything obviously ‘corporate’ they favoured a homely vibe within their working environment, to create a connectedness with nature and a stylish and contemporary design was fundamental. Kobalt Music’s interior juxtaposes many contrasting elements including pristine white walls, polished concrete floors and exposed ventilation pipes alongside softer natural wood elements and as such provided the perfect backdrop for dramatic planting.

For this project, boldness was important, with equal emphasis placed on the choice of plants and planters in the right materials, to work within the meticulous creative design of the building interior. A total of 61 faux-stone planters were selected in a series of sensual, curved forms to work alongside the sharp angularity of their interior. A palette of matte black, cream and grey reflected the interior tones. General proportional rules of planting scales were flouted to great effect and a series of tall planters with smaller Sanseveria created dramatic focal points, with leaves appearing to flicker outwards from the top. So plant and planter were working in visual harmony with one another.

In other areas, this proportional rule was reversed with vast Monstera, bearing huge, perforated leaves, were installed within simple matte black bowl planters. Positioned in areas flanked by stark white walls, spot lighting was utilised to great effect, creating ever-changing shadows and an environment where creativity can thrive. Established in 1975, Indoor Garden Design is a multi-award winning company at the forefront of contemporary interior and exterior horticultural design, transforming workspaces, offices, hotels & restaurants and bringing events to life.

Ian Drummond will be taking part in a panel discussion on ‘Indoors meet Outdoors’ in the planting spectrum in September at the LANDSCAPE Show in Battersea Park. Come along to learn more!

NEWSPAPER

LONG RAKE SPAR Following its successful launch in 2017, RHS Chatsworth returned this June with an eye-catching array of landscapes and displays. Amongst the striking collection of show gardens was the CCLA: A Family Garden, which was designed by Amanda Waring and Laura Arison and build by G K Wilson Landscape Services. Long Rake Spar was approached by Catfoot Garden Designs to supply a range of decorative aggregates for the garden. Key to the design was the seamless resin bound surface that flowed through the planting, this featured Silver Grey Granite which helped to create a defined contrast with the raised paving area. The garden also included two imaginative water features, the first was a fountain built into the SuDs compliant resin bound flooring and the second was a modern take on a traditional cascade in the seating area. The vertical cascade allowed water to run down fine chains like rainfall and onto a bed of bold, dark Black Cobbles before being absorbed back in to the feature. Long Rake was also pleased to supply aggregates to One Artisan whose handcrafted bespoke polished concrete boulders have the garden an eye-catching finish. The CCLA garden was designed to bring together aspects of family life with elements of the outdoors. Built across varied levels, the visitor could explore structural and informal planting and discover areas where they can sit relax and connect with their surroundings. You can catch Long Rake Spar at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park!

MICHAEL JOHN MCGARR & ROBERT WARNES WARNES MCGARR & CO

The Warnes McGarr & Co design duo brought an element of danger to this year’s RHS Tatton Flower Show in Cheshire with their exhibit The Poisonous Garden. The 650 sq metre garden took six months of designing, planning and sourcing the best material and plants before it was unveiled in July. Garden designer Michael McGarr and landscape designer Robert Warnes, were asked by the RHS back in January 2018 if they would design and project manage the huge exhibit, which showcased

both highly unusual and common garden poisonous plants. Visitors walked through different sections call Pretty Deadly, featuring poisonous and deadly plants, Hungry plants, featuring carnivorous plants, Apothecary, featuring medicinal plants which can both kill and cure and Plant Defence, which examines how plants defend themselves with spikes or smells. The four sections were arranged around a central circular area covered with sail shades, where

talks were held throughout the show period. Visitors walked through shipping-container size timber structures, which were covered in anatomical drawings and provided view points for the plants. Michael McGarr said “This was a vast project to take on and build during the two week pre-show slot. However, we were honoured to work in partnership with the RHS to create this spectacle and we loved watching visitors enjoying all the different aspects.”

KATE GOULD KATE GOULD GARDENS

Kate Gould’s award-winning 2018 Chelsea garden has been adapted and moved to the heart of West End just off London’s world famous Oxford Street (on Old Quebec Street). It provides a tranquil, green oasis to visitors to the retail and leisure destination. So the garden was collaboration between the area’s business to improve biodiversity and air quality and promote happiness and wellbeing, all of which is associated with greening the urban environment. Kate has a real passion for greening urban spaces and jumped at the opportunity to

design another Chelsea garden which focused on the theme of creating a calm, tranquil and healthier space in the heart of London. The plan of moving the garden after the show made this project even more. Kate’s knowledge and love of plants has shone through with a wide variety of evergreens as well as flowering plants and trees being used. All varieties have been chosen for their pollution and CO2 absorption properties to create cleaner air for visitors to the garden. With London often cited as having one of the poorest records of air quality in Europe.

Kate Gould said “I feel privileged to have been asked to be a small part of the greening of London, many of the gardens I have put on the showground at Chelsea have been related to this theme as I feel it is imperative to create healthier spaces for people living in and frequenting the city. I hope the garden thrives, is well used and helps to improve the air quality for visitors and residents of the West End for the time it will be spending in this space.”

HAY-JOUNG WANG HAY DESIGNS

Hay-Joung Wang’s Eco-City garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea harmonises the burgeoning presence of and dependency on technology in everyday lives with an increasing awareness of the environmental issues and responsibilities we face in reducing pollution in our modern urban lifestyles. The Eco-City Garden was born from Hay-Joung’s personal passion and desire to raise the question in relation to finding solutions for improving living conditions in

everyday lives. It was intended as a showcase in which to provide closer interaction between concrete and the greener environment. Therefore it featured Acer Ginnala trees and beech for the hedge which were selected specifically for their ability to tolerate and reduce air pollution. All plants in the garden also played a role in season control of oxygen generation, humidity control, temperature moderation and the reduction of carbon dioxide as well

provide a significant reduction in most toxic particles. Therefore, the LG Eco-City Garden balanced aesthetic demands with a requirement to not only reduce the contribution of the garden by using energy but moved firmly towards pollution removal. With that trees and a variety of other plant species used to soften the visual impact of building architecture in modern city tower block designs as well as pollution reduction.

Hay-Joung will be discussing the topic of ‘City Gardens and New Technologies’ as part of the CPD Accredited Seminar Programme at the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Be sure to come along to learn more.

TREE AID TREE AID helps people in the drylands of Africa to lift themselves out of poverty and protect their environment. People here live in some of the toughest conditions on earth and trees are essential to their survival. Trees provide nutrition, generate income and help to create a healthy environment. TREE AID has helped people like Talata, a mother of two from Ghana. To make ends meet, 25 year old Talata used to collect wood and shea nuts to sell in the rainy season. It would take Talata over four days to process the shea nuts before taking them to the market. Talata is now working for TREE AID supported co-operative union processing baobab powder and shea nuts. She is now earning more money than before without having to resort to selling firewood. Although poverty has declines in Ghana nationally, it remains high in much of Northern Ghana. Talata says “When I saw how the lives of people in the co-operatives had changed, I wanted to join the project and also benefit. I’m very happy to be part of the cooperative. I can’t remember the last time I had to collect firewood to sell. I also lead the shea processing in our union. This takes a lot less time to produce the shea butter. We now have more income than when we were collecting firewood, as much as five times!” To find out more about how TREE AID is helping people in one of the poorest areas of Ghana, visit their stand at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park!

The latest technology combined with CAD manufacturing systems complement traditional diamond and shot-sawn cutting processes to provide ultimate flexibility in product manufacture. This hi-tech manufacturing environment offers designers the freedom to see imaginative proposals being transformed into an almost limitless product range. A visit to LANDSCAPE 2015 by Garden Designer Olivia Kirk was the start of a fruitful relationship. Olivia instantly fell in love with Crosland Hill Yorkstone and knew that the stone would be perfect for the redevelopment of the Court Yard at the Royal Porcelain Works in Worcester, a project that was in the early planning stages. Three years on from that chance meeting a stunning space has emerged. The Royal Porcelain Works is a vibrant new centre for the performing arts and modern craftsmanship. The central Court Yard adorned with Crosland Hill Yorkstone, links a new artisan café with the existing Museum of Royal Worcester and the adjacent Royal Porcelain Works, with the beautifully renovated Henry Sandon Hall. Raised planters double up as additional seating to the outdoor tables and chairs which spill out into the Court Yard, providing a relaxed, holiday atmosphere. Crosland Hill Natural Hard Yorkstone has been used for the paving in a combination of Natural Buff paving and setts with diamond sawn finish. The raised planters, copings, treads and risers use Classic Buff with a fine rubbed finish. STARK & GREENSMITH LTD Stark & Greensmith have launched a new laser-cut garden screen range in collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), boasting a design inspired by 17th century illustrations from the RHS Lindley Library. The Parterre range includes four decorative panels which can add instant ‘show garden’ appeal and privacy to a space. Engravings of knot gardens and parterres from ‘The English Gardener’ by Leonard Meager (c1624-c1704), first published in London 1688, were referenced in the new panel design by Stark & Greensmith’s creative director, Martine Le Gassick. Available in two finishes of corten steel and a new warm grey hued powder coated aluminimum, the RHS endorsed screens can be used as boundary fencing and on terraces or decking to create a dining or seating area. They can also act as solar shading in pergolas, for screening in the garden, or formally as garden dividers to create ‘rooms’. To mark the collaboration, panels from the Parterre range are set to be installed in the outdoor café area at the RHS Garden, Wisley. Martine said “We are delighted to have collaborated with the RHS for this set of elegant screens which will enhance any garden, however big or small. The timelessness of these illustrations of knot gardens and parterres translates beautifully to modern screen formats, while their antiquity lends an unmistakable sense of history and tradition.” To learn more about Stark & Greensmith’s exciting new range and other services they provide, visit their stand at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park!

CEYLAN BELEK OMBERGT & CHARLOTTE WILBERFORCE MARTHA SCHWARTZ PARTNERS

Recently, Martha Schwartz Partners were involved in a notable development in Beijing, China. Located in the Changping district of Beijing the project was defined by its contemporary architecture and a landscape that subdivides into a trio of differently characterized zones organised around the requirements of three main programmatic areas; commercial / retail, office plus residential areas. A rectangular, shifting ground plane pattern of strips form an aesthetic tactic that was

rigorously applied forging a unique and memorable identity for the entire site. The strips of this motif are versatile. They become either paving, planting or peel up to become bespoke street furniture, lighting and entry gateway features. The dominant landscape zone of the project is the Central Park open space that acts as a green public heart. It sits adjacent to a series of sunken gardens which

are framed by raised gardens planted with perennials, hedges and ornamental grasses. Along these edges people can sit and enjoy the sun or lounge on custom seating carefully placed among trees and grass of the Central Park. Alongside this, the project has various environmentally beneficial attributes for example a water feature that harvested, treated rainwater collected from the site.

To find out more about Martha Schwartz Partners and how they can help you, be sure to visit the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th and 19th at Battersea Park, where Ceylan Belek Ombergt and Charlotte Wilberforce will be conducting short presentation.

SOILS AND STONE LIMITED It’s been an exciting few months for Soils and Stone. Already a supplier of certified topsoils and subsoils, aggregates and sustainable recycled materials. Their new British Standard topsoil PremiumGro has proved a popular addition with Landscapers and Developers alike. Earlier in the year, Soils and Stone were commissioned to work alongside a large local Landscaper in the creation of a number of carefully designed contemporary courtyard garden set within an innovative, high-spec housing development. To meet the tight parameters of the brief it was essential to deliver a fully BS compliant certified topsoil that also adhered to the strict regulations surrounding new housing developments. After much consideration Soils and Stone’s new PremiumGro was specified and over 1000m³ supplied to support a planting scheme that included semi-mature trees, turfing and seeding, instant hedging as well as herbaceous shrubs. More recently, Soils and Stone were approached by a Main Contractor to support the redevelopment of a secondary school’s sport pitches. The brief, no more cuts and bruises from hidden stones or glass! To achieve this, the on-site contractor needed complete peace of mind with each and every load delivered. With over 2000m³ required for seeing and turfing, PremiumGro was chosen for its compliance to the British Standard coupled with its on-going reliability, consistency and scalability. Soils and Stone will be exhibiting at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 18th in Battersea Park. Come along and visit their stand to find out more!

JAKE HOBSON NIWAKI LTD

Author, pruning expert and founder of Niwaki Ltd, Jake Hobson will be discussing his unique pruning style at the LANDSCAPE Show this September. Jake’s method combines traditional European topiary with Japanese pruning, cloud pruning and fruit tree pruning. It’s aimed

at inspiring people to loosen up and welcome new ideas into their gardens. As too often, gardeners get hung up on making a ‘Japanese garden’ or a ‘Mediterranean garden’ when in fact there is much more fun to be had in taking elements from all of them and creatively making the garden one’s own.

Using examples of his own work, as well as from around the world, Jake will talk about using pruning to define a garden and create a sense of place. He’ll also take a look at some of the techniques he uses.

You can catch Niwaki founder, Jake Hobson during his talk or at the Niwaki stand in the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Come along and immerse yourselves into the world of creative pruning!

ÖÖD UK BY ROUND WOOD OF MAYFIELD A summer party hosted by Round Wood of Mayfield celebrated the addition of a stunning mirrored building to its collection, which will be making its debut at the LANDSCAPE Show this September. Providing a striking backdrop to the event, the glass-fronted ÖÖD house, which is new to the UK, wowed VIP guests, clients and staff as they enjoyed an evening of wine and canapés at Lime Cross Nursery in Herstmonceux. Exclusive paintings and sculptures were also on display as potential customers viewed the impressive ÖÖD house for the first time. The buildings feature a steel frame, insulated glass and thermally treated wood. The standard interior offers a studio layout with a custom bed, kitchenette and bathroom. Other features include heated floors and LED lighting. Typically ÖÖD house are hooked up to water, sewage and electricity supply, but off-grid capabilities are under development. Managing Director Zac Soudain of Round Wood said “We are really excited to add ÖÖD Houses to our collection as their only UK distributor and perhaps unsurprisingly they’ve already proved very popular. It was clear at the launch that these glass-fronted houses really have the wow factor and could be used for many purposes from pop-up accommodation to garden rooms and offices. They were generating a lot of excitement. They blend beautifully into any setting courtesy of the insulated glazing that covers the front and side while the rear elevation features eco-friendly thermo treated ash cladding which also cleverly conceals a service void.” To find out more about Round Wood’s ÖÖD house, be sure to pop by their stand at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park.

VENUS STONE What is Greenwall? A carefully selected combination of artificial plants that work perfectly when used for the contemporary idea of vertical garden or more commonly named ‘green wall’. All of Venus Stone’s artificial Greenwall foliage panels are UV stabilised which means they are suitable for outdoor as well as indoor use. Being UV stable protects the plants from any discolouration or fading that prolonged sunlight may cause. Artificial vertical gardens are perfect for making a quirky statement wall, or bringing a botanical feel to your outdoor or indoor space. If you have any unsightly walls this is a perfect way of screening the area and transforming it into a spectacle. All the vertical plants are crafted from a combination of plastic and latex which makes them not only looks realistic but feels it too. With recent product development Venus Stone are perfecting the detail on these foliage leaves, so it’s now very difficult to differentiate between real and their artificial Greenwall. Venus Stone’s recent project included adding some well needed atmosphere to a riverside beer garden using their latest Greenwall creation. To find out more about Venus Stone’s latest range of artificial foliage panels, visit their stand at the LANDSCAPE Show this September 18th & 19th at Battersea Park.

AMANDA PATTON

AMANDA PATTON LANDSCAPE & GARDEN DESIGN

This month we caught up with Amanda Patton from Amanda Patton Landscape & Garden Design and she said; “In 2007 I received an email from the First Lady of Ohio, asking if I’d be interested in planning and guiding a garden tour in England. While my mother was nearly having a heart attack (“just because you’ve planned holidays doesn’t make you qualified to be a professional”) it sounded interesting and fun. All was fine until I received the names, at which point it became very real and I wondered if my mother had been right! I had thought it a one-off, but

have subsequently planned and guided three more in different European countries, and I’m currently working on Andalucia for next spring. The First Lady made a garden at the Governor’s Residence to showcase the native flora from prairies, sand dunes and alvar; much of this habitat is threatened. As most Ohio gardeners think their natives weeds, though they are plants we prize in our European gardens, the tours help raise funds and awareness. With my pseudo-naturalistic planting style, I have become an inadvertent ambassador for the

group, with two lecture tours in Ohio over the past few years. With the experience I have gained, I now design and guide tours for Martin Randall Travel. Travelling with people who love gardens has allowed me to visit a large number of private gardens whose owners are generous in sharing their passions; I in turn can help people critique what they see. As tours have now become where I ultimately see my ‘retirement’, I’m very glad my mother was wrong!”

Amanda will be taking part in a seminar session at the LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park. Be sure to come along to learn more!

MOORE CONCRETE Belfast designer, Linda McKeown, incorporated ECOncrete Bio Active Tiles into award winning design at Bloom Garden Festival 2018. The driving force behind Blueleaf Garden Design, on winning the overall medium sized garden award at this year’s Bloom Garden Festival in Dublin. Her ‘Enable Ireland Beyond Boundaries Garden’ caught the eye of the judges and the general public in equal measure. Her ability to combine aesthetic and structural themes within an overall garden design theme were the facets to the 2018 project, which most caught the judge’s eye. To make this happen Linda included a mix of Sliver Birch and pine trees, various grasses and a vertical wall. “The wall is a feature that reflects the urban environment within which many gardens are set”, she said. By common consent, the vertical wall formed a stunning backdrop to the overall garden. Significantly, it featured ECOncrete BioActive Wall Tiles, provided by Co Antrimbased precast manufacturer Moore Concrete. Richard Whiteside confirmed “These elements are designed to induce rapid plant wall coverage on urban buildings. Green plant coverage significantly improves urban landscapes, provides cleaner and healthier air and reduces the ecological footprint of urban development. Typical green roofs or green walls systems usually demand elaborate soil and watering systems. However this is not the case with our ECOncrete Bio Active concrete wall tile design which overall provides an effective, low maintenance, easy installed green wall solution.” You can catch Moore Concrete at their stand in LANDSCAPE Show this September at Battersea Park, come along to see more!
