Jacksons
I look forward to seeing you at LANDSCAPE in Battersea Park this September where I would be delighted to tell you more about our winning gardens.”
We spoke to Louise Crumlin from Jacksons recently who told us what she had been up to. “As you might expect when I was asked for my contribution to the next issue of Landscape magazine, it would be pretty difficult for me not to mention this year’s Jacksons Show Gardens Design competition, in fact you’d probably think it was odd if I didn’t. We have had the two separate launches, one at our HQ in Kent, for the two winning 2014 show garden designs opening, and then another launch for the rather unusual additional part of the competition, which is the show garden opening at the Ashford Designer Outlet.
We were delighted to be asked to supply some of our Venetian fencing and one of our lovely Retreats for RHS Chelsea flower show this year. These were in Chris Webb’s Sculpture garden, right near one of the entrances to the Grand Pavilion, as you can see in the photo. The garden was basking in the evening sun when I arrived to see it. Which was quite different from the weather leading up to the show. Liz Brewer, the garden designer responsible for the creating the planting in the Sculpture garden, sent several tweets, thanking us for supplying the Retreat with its polycarbonate roof, under which, she ‘beat a hasty retreat’ (pardon the pun!) to escape from, not only torrential rain, but hailstones as well!

This year we did a few things differently to previous years; one was we had the opening event after the Chelsea Flower show, rather than the Saturday before it opens. I think this worked to my advantage, as it meant I had time to go and see the show at Chelsea, before I got completely burnt out, in fact I think it served as more of a boost.

Metalco
Metalco has established collaborations with international, well-known designers and with prestigious academic institutions. The result has been products which have redefined the concept of street furniture and outdoor furniture, awarded by major associations for design and appreciated by users. From the beginning, the search for shapes and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the functionality of the objects has been the adopted guideline. One such scheme that embodies Metalco’s approach that they are really proud of is a special installation located in Tuscany (county of Dante Alighieri ) where artists “used” their Volo bench as “paper” sheets, where some of Dante’s “Divine Comedy – Hell “ verses have been painted. The Volo seats also coordinated with their Dahlia planters, which also feature to create a unique and pleasing environment. Come and see their complete product range at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.

Environmental Street Furniture has been trading in Ireland since 1988 and since then has developed their business throughout the UK and most recently into international markets all over the world. ESF designs, imports, sources, stocks and supplies a huge selection of exterior street furniture products, exterior lighting (including LEDs) and highways products— all of which are available through local distribution networks. The products are promoted through four distinct collections: Signature, Simplicity, Sustainable and Streetwise.
The Gardeners Guild The Gardeners Guild now has a Maintenance Contract / Terms of Business Template for TGG members to download for free as part of their membership package. Members asked them to create a maintenance contract / Terms of Business Template that they could use. After consulting with members in their forum about what they wanted the document to achieve, they engaged a solicitor who is a specialist in contract law - after all, a poorly written contract is a useless document. The result is a document that members can download and personalise. Used on its own, the new document template can act as a general Terms of Business. However, the document can also be a client specific maintenance contract when combined with a formal written quotation.
ESF sources many products locally and from overseas, with the Signature Collection being developed in conjunction with mmcité from the Czech Republic.
By specifying payment terms as well as client and contractor responsibilities and liabilities, members can have greater confidence to grow their business.
One of mmcité’s more popular products in the UK would be the Miela park bench – where design has finally reached its goal – with refinement in unity and in detail. This charismatic bench profits from the modelled anatomy of its sideboard castings and is enhanced by the softly shaped upper lamella of the armrest. This is a carefully elaborated bench, and has been cultivated for the contours to flutter above the paving, bringing new craftsmanship standards to the field of street furniture. It creates the right contemporary counterbalance to the most valuable historical sites as well as humanizing modern areas already full of uncompromising architecture.
The aim is to help qualified, self-employed gardeners compete with larger firms by giving them affordable access to essential business tools. Membership is currently just £35 per year. TGG members can now benefit from over 14 different member benefits including free legal advice and over 50 other document templates and spreadsheet based tools, why not visit them at LANDSCAPE in Battersea Park this September to find out more.
The sideboard is made from machined castings of aluminium alloy, the saddle and armrest of the lamella are made from solid wood. An original and solid-footing are fixed to the groundwork and pavement. It has also been newly shaped as a bollard from cast aluminium. Come and see the range on their stand at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.

GIFAS GLDA
For more than 20 years GIFAS Electric have been producing floor pits used for the underground distribution of electrical power, compressed air and water. The use of solid rubber distribution boards, stainless steel housings, and gas pistons means that the system is completely maintenance-free.
Gary Foran, Chairman of the Garden & Landscape Designs Association, records the historical evolution of Irish design and the pivotal role played by the association in raising it to international standards.
The product was initially designed for use on market places and town centres for weekly markets, Christmas markets, and many other open air events where electrical power is required but this product has been used in many other places, including the Base Court in Hampton Court Palace, Corporate Headquarters, as well as for private dwellings.
Prior to the formation of the Garden and Landscape Design Association (GLDA) in the mid-1990s, garden design had gone largely unrecognised as an independent profession by the Irish public.
The Floor Pit is designed to be used in closed position. That is to say connection is made and the lid is closed again, leaving everything out of sight, out of mind.
The first meeting of the GLDA took place in Dublin, at home of founder member Angela Jupe. Angela had an earnest desire to establish a society in Ireland en par with the well-established Society of Garden Designers in the UK. It was Angela’s passion and perseverance which brought together the founding members in the summer of 95’.

Come and see, or don’t see, how GIFAS can help you by visiting their stand at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.
One of the biggest success stories of the GLDA to date, has been its hosting of an annual design seminar, which continues to be a well-respected and popular event, drawing in a diverse audience of industry academics, professionals and students alike. Early seminars saw high-profile designers such as James Van Sweden and Piet Oudolf offer inspirational garden design insights . Our membership prides itself on being open and inclusive, and since its establishment over 18 years ago, membership numbers have grown steadily. As a full member and chairman of the association, I appreciate first-hand the value of having a network of garden design colleagues to engage with and share ideas, expertise, experience and industry information. Added to that, the GLDA’s active social calendar, which includes a number of visits each year, its ongoing programme of in-house professional development workshops and other events, have all contributed greatly to the sense of ownership and responsibility members share for the continued welfare of their association. We are proud supporters of LANDSCAPE in Battersea Park this September and look forward to catching up with members and potential new members there.

Guild of Master Craftsmen Quickgrass Quickgrass Limited are based in Worcestershire and are one of the UK’s premier suppliers of artificial grass . They have an exclusive range of grasses that really do stand out and are a wonderful example of what can be achieved with todays modern production methods.
They were recently approached by Stephen Floyd – a landscape architect based in London to supply a high quality artificial grass suitable for a roof garden terrace feature at Holborn Chambers, right in the centre of London’s legal district just off Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Richmond artificial grass was chosen , selected for its high quality structure and realistic appearance . The installation has created a dramatic scene high above the roof tops of this part of London. The installation was straight forward with the Richmond grass being cut and supplied from our Worcestershire warehouse delivered directly to site. With the installation completed this is what Stephen had to say about Quickgrass and his project, “I wanted to create this tiny section of park in the sky high above the busy streets of Bloomsbury. This perfect lookout point required only the simplest of interventions to maximize its romantic potential. Custom cast iron lampposts echo the street below and Richmond’s artificial turf supplied by Quickgrass allowed us to wrap the whole upper story with a blanket of green. “

IFLA WoodBlocx WoodBlocX returned to the 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show with a statement stand design, which helped them to win a top award from the show’s judges.
Planters, seating, steps and decking mixed with bright and bold planting from organic gardening expert, Jekka McVicar, formed the company’s exhibit at the show. The layout and design caught the judges’ imagination and the team was presented with a prestigious Four-Star Trade Stand Award for their efforts. In addition, the National Union of Students, which also incorporated three large circular WoodBlocX raised beds into garden, was awarded a Silver Gilt Award. The garden formed part of the organisation’s Student Eats campaign, which puts sustainable food production at the heart of university and college campuses across the country, to bring students from a wide variety of backgrounds together. “2014 has been great so far for WoodBlocX. We are experiencing our busiest year yet and to receive recognition for our own stand design at the world’s most prestigious flower show is fantastic! The NUS’ garden was a worthy winner of a Silver Gilt Award and I am very pleased that our raised beds formed a part of it,” said WoodBlocX’s Henry Blake. 2014 IFLA Europe Silver Jubilee Twenty-five years ago, ten European professional landscape architects met in Vilvoorde (Belgium) to create the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture (EFLA) inspired from the international experience they had witnessed, in 1948 with the creation of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), and who believed that our way of perceiving and understanding the world –derived from our profession- could contribute to its development. The European Foundation for Landscape Architecture has since then grown up and changed in many different ways. One of the changes being its name which from “European Foundation for Landscape Architecture” (EFLA) moved to “European Federation for Landscape Architecture” and finally to “IFLA Europe” further to a “Coming Together” agreement between IFLA and EFLA turning the organisation into the European region of the International Federation of Landscape Architects. Today, we celebrate IFLA Europe Silver Jubilee as a recognition of landscape architects unceasing work. A rich complexity of the landscape mosaic characterising their work, which deals with nature and culture, and considers man and society the focus of their beliefs. CED Stone Natural stone suppliers, CED Ltd. were proud to have products featured in a range of award winning gardens at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show in Royal Hospital, Chelsea.
They supplied 10 gardens with natural stone products and paving. Many of the gardens they supplied won awards at the famous annual flower show which is sponsored by the Royal Horticultural Society and considered to be one of the most prestigious events of its kind. “We are immensely proud and very fortunate to have been, yet again heavily involved in so many great gardens and designs. With a total of 3 gold and 3 silver medals and our official supporting of Perennial Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society this year, Chelsea 2014 has proven to be one of the best yet. Our commitment to excellence and determination to be the best at what we do ensures that our clients are never let down or supplied with anything but the best quality, service and largest range of natural stone to choose from in the industry.”
See us at LANDSCAPE Among the garden designs that featured natural stone products from CED was double award winner, The Minds Eye Garden, designed by LDC Design, which won both the Gold Award for Best Fresh Garden and the BBC/Peoples’ Choice Award. CED supplied all the stone elements to The Minds Eye Garden including granite paving, benches, wall blocks with various textures and aggregate. The Rubber Company RubbaPour® safety surfacing will be featured on the Rubber Company’s stand at this years LANDSCAPE Show in Battersea Park this September. The smallest safety surfacing jobs often prove to be the more challenging, their wet pour team completed a job with access being over a 7′ wall at the rear of the property and with no chance of a wheel barrow being used, it was many buckets being passed back and forth.
Despite this, their installers still did an excellent job installing RubbaPour® safety surfacing in two shades of green as per the clients design. RubbaPour® is safety surfacing product, well known as wet pour. A safe and seamless surfacing. Wet pour is mainly seen and most regularly installed in playgrounds, used to help prevent injury and provide a safe surface from falling injury’s. Wet pour is a mixture of rubber granules bound together by a polyurethane resin and laid onto either a purpose built base or an existing foundation such as concrete. Although mainly used in playgrounds, wet pour is used in many other areas that need a safe absorbing surface, whether it be to prevent strain on horses or to be used as a running track. Wet pour is popular because as well as providing a safe surface, it is very aesthetically pleasing and can have any shape or pattern laid into it, such as fun games for playgrounds or football pitch lines. Come and talk to the team about how you can use it in your next project.
Institute of Horticulture The Institute of Horticulture (IoH) is delighted to announce that Her Majesty the Queen has been graciously pleased to grant a Royal Charter to the Institute of Horticulture. The Institute’s Royal Charter will come into legal effect when it is sealed by the Crown Office at the House of Lords.. The granting of a Royal Charter has been an aspiration of the Institute since its inception in 1984 in view of the major benefits it will bring to the Institute and its members. A Royal Charter will enhance the Institute’s ability to present our profession through increasing the profile, recognition and standing of professional horticulture. As a Chartered body the Institute’s ability to raise standards will be strengthened and the Institute will be better placed to represent and support horticulture as a profession and assist members in the practice of the profession. Leigh Morris FI Hort, Institute of Horticulture President commented: “The IoH is THE body representing professional horticulture and being granted a Royal Charter will reflect that to a much wider audience. Such status will undoubtedly give our members a higher status, stimulate more to join us, give the IoH much greater gravitas in our advocacy for the industry and it is something the horticulture profession deserves. The work done to date by IoH Council on taking this forward on behalf of horticulture is tremendous and all of us should recognise their vision and application in achieving this. The Institute has raised the bar for professional horticulture in the UK and Ireland. This is a landmark moment and exciting times ahead!” The Institute of Horticulture are delighted to be back at LANDSCAPE in Battersea Park this September and look forward to welcoming new and existing members to their stand. www.horticulture.org.uk

Working nationwide Jamie takes inspiration from nature, architecture, fashion and interiors. In this featured project the client requested that the drive be softened and that evergreen planting be incorporated into the garden. A box hedge and cones were planted alongside the drive and to add symmetry a yew hedge was planted against the wall which helped to balance the plot. In front of this sections of beech hedging were planted, again this helped to balance the garden and create a bold contemporary style. It was also felt that the house and terrace lacked colour and the entrance to the front door didn’t have enough impact. To rectify this a raised section of slate paving was installed with matching planters and steps - this helped to guide the visitor to the front door. A low stone wall which surrounded the terrace was removed and slate cladding installed to tie the scheme together. Another box hedge was planted in front of the terrace to add permanent colour. A raised planter was also added to the terrace to include the clients existing sculpture. This was planted with a mixture of grasses, alliums, camassia and irises. Finally cubes of Yew were randomly positioned to the side of the property, these were trimmed to differing heights to reflect the shape of the house.

Perennial The collaboration between garden designer, occupational charity and the horticulture industry has been richly rewarded today as Perennial celebrated winning a Silver-Gilt Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show after welcoming Her Majesty The Queen at the evening Gala. Her Majesty was very interested in the work of the charity and that of its landscaping partners for the event, Streetscape (a social enterprise that encourages long-term unemployed to train as horticulturists). Granted royal status in 1851 by Queen Victoria, Perennial (formerly known as The Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society) is the only UK charity dedicated to helping all horticulturists in times of crisis. It has marked its 175th anniversary at the show with a wonderful exhibit in the Great Pavilion. Perennial’s Patron HRH Princess Alexandra also visited, as did Princess Beatrice. Designed by Jo Thompson the garden at Chelsea this year was been made possible with help, advice and donated plants and materials from some industry stalwarts. Speaking at the show, Alan Titchmarsh, President of Perennial, said: “It is fitting that the exhibit designed to mark this unique charity’s 175th anniversary has been possible thanks to partnership, friendship and goodwill from across the horticulture industry. Richard Capewell, Chief Executive at Perennial, says: “We have so many people to thank for their help. The visit by The Queen really was the icing on the cake – we are all very proud to be associated with this great charity that offers a lifeline to those working in and retired from horticulture.” Please come along and meet Perennial at the LANDSCAPE Show this September in Battersea Park and find out more about their work.

Thrive is the leading charity in the UK using gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. The process is called social and therapeutic horticulture – put simply it is working with plants to improve physical and psychological health, along with communication and thinking skills. The charity uses the garden as a safe and secure environment in which to develop an individual’s ability to socialise, make friends, and gain practical skills that make them more independent and self-reliant. According to Thrive’s Alyson Chorley, gardening can benefit everyone, regardless of age or ability. “We help older people, and people who have had strokes to improve their mobility by getting their muscles moving. Gardening also improves mental health by providing a sense of purpose and achievement. It’s a very social activity and can reduce feelings of isolation and low mood – making friends is easy for some, but for others it is really difficult and having a shared interest can really help.” Thrive is looking for support – both financial and practical – at each of its four centres in London, Reading, Birmingham and Gateshead. Aralia
This rural property plays host to a Grade II listed house and a separate period outbuilding which have both had various architectural additions over the century, resulting in the creation of a narrow, empty corridor; prompting the need for an external re-design. The challenge for Aralia in this design was to unify the two opposing buildings and overcome the difficulties posed by numerous access points, all in the space of a small courtyard of less than two hundred square meters. The clients request was to create a garden which blurred the strong geometry of the buildings through a curvilinear design, whilst incorporating multiple opportunities for seating to relax and unwind. The garden very much holds a traditional feel through the choice of materials and planting in order to be sympathetic towards the architecture, surrounding landscape and local aesthetic.
The culmination of the garden is signified by a circular terrace which is controlled and held in place by the beautifully weathered curved oak seats, housing cut logs underneath to create pattern and shape. Two small water chutes bubble away in the background creating a relaxing atmosphere whilst the user can sit and take advantage of tranquil views across the rest of the garden. Patricia Fox from Aralia will be one of our featured speakers at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.
Upon first entering the property, visitors are greeted by a pair of beautifully crafted Iroko gates, framed by two heritage brick planters which house a lush beech hedge, concealing elements of the journey ahead. Three sizes of autumnal riven sandstone are used to negotiate the curves and create a subtle flow and legibility to the journey, whilst naturalistic perennials and grasses soften the space and create narrative. Plants such as Astrantia, Perovskia, Deschampsia and Echinacea are used throughout the borders to create rhythm and repetition whilst green Oak arches frame snippets of these views, anchoring the path between the buildings as the garden progresses.

Tobermore, are a top paving and walling manufacturer who supply products throughout the UK and Ireland. They recently provided £40, 000 worth of beautiful block paving products which were featured in the award winning Westpoint Homes development, Barronsfield Grange in Newton Mearns. The unique tumbled edges of Tobermore Tegula block paving create a timeworn appearance, making Tegula the ideal choice for a landscape scheme like Barronsfield Grange where aesthetics and style are primary considerations. Hydropave Shannon Duo block paving is designed with low maintenance as a priority and the smooth surface is easily trafficked by vehicles, wheelchairs, as well as accommodating a safe play area for children around these lavish family homes. Hydropave products are a permeable paving solution which incorporate a structured, more sustainable method of water drainage and also removes pollution from runoff. Historic Flag is Tobermore’s top selling hard wearing flag which provides the look and feel of traditional natural stone with similar hard wearing characteristics. The fettled edges and riven face add to the warmth and charm of the Historic range and make them adaptable for both old and new properties. Similarly, Country Stone creates the look of natural stone. Country Stone is a walling product with a rugged, aged finish which is increasingly sought after by home owners and planners. The aesthetic qualities of the paving and walling products chosen by Westpoint Homes for this scheme complement each other perfectly in achieving the warm, rustic character of Barronsfield Grange. Come and see the product for yourself on the Tobermore stand at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.

After the competition, Chris said “The YHoY competition has been brilliant and over the last four years that I have entered I have met some excellent like-minded people from all over the country. The competition this year was exceptionally strong. The mountains of Vietnam and Taiwan both seem to be botanically very interesting and are places that I may consider visiting with my travel bursary.”

This is achieved by the use of physical barrier systems, replacing agrochemicals for weed, insect and disease control. Proven in organic and conventional farming for salad and vegetable production, this technology makes large-scale production viable, where consumer demand exceeds the ability of leading growers to supply. Come and see their full range of products on their stand at LANDSCAPE this September in Battersea Park.

Construction
It sometimes seems that there is only one way of approaching the build of gardens but in this seminar we will discuss the very different ways in which we might build our gardens. This seminar is a must not only for landscapers but also for designers in planning the way they see their designs become reality. With David Dodd and Guy Watts.
Thrive
Thrive, the national charity based in Battersea Park, London holds regular corporate volunteering and team building days which are going from strength to strength. Staff at large blue chip companies leave their desks for a day and carry out tasks in one of the charity’s beautiful gardens in Battersea Park, Reading, Birmingham and Gateshead. Thrive is the leading charity in the UK that uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people who are living with disabilities or ill health, or are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. This is known as social and therapeutic horticulture. Thrive has received great feedback from its corporate supporters who love being able to work outdoors for the day and experience personal and team development in a very different environment. Teams learn in a hands-on way how people with disabilities can achieve much more than they think by learning techniques and gaining confidence that enable them to live active, productive lives. This provides the opportunity for them to reflect on how looking at things differently to solve problems can make a difference to what they can achieve. Whilst working with Thrive, corporate volunteers carry out tasks that contribute to its work helping a large number of people of all ages who have a wide range of disabilities for example: young people with learning difficulties or behavioural problems, people who have had head injuries through accidents, older people who have had heart attacks or a stroke or suffer from dementia, people of all ages with mental ill health ….. the list is wide and long.

See us at LANDSCAPE As Thrive helps people with a wide range of disabilities, it is possible that one of these will have touched the lives of members of the volunteers personally and therefore they can relate strongly with who we help. As a charity looking for creative and sustainable ways to raise funds to not only continue, but expand our work with disabled and disadvantaged people, we are always on the look-out for new supporters. Fiona Rackham from Thrive organises the days and says: “We make your day fun. We start off by presenting you with a team building challenge and then you get stuck in to your outdoor task/challenge which will involve really varied and practical tasks such as: digging, weeding, strimming, mending fences, cutting back foliage, power washing paving or painting railings and sheds! “No previous experience is required. The groups are supervised all the time and full health and safety briefings are given. We make sure there are tasks for everyone whether they would like to do ‘tough’ stuff like clearing ponds or cleaning greenhouses or more gentle work such as weeding or sorting pots. “The work our visiting groups carry out make an enormous difference to Thrive. There are always regular maintenance tasks that are too complex or too time-consuming for our client gardeners to do, and from time to time we have major clearance or improvement projects that require a concerted effort in one session.” Come and find out more about Thrive at their stand at this years LANDSCAPE Show in Battersea Park in September.

Poppyhead Consultancy, a landscape design practice based in Manchester have just completed a roof terrace scheme on Salford Quays, a stones throw from the new Media City. The scheme is a retrofit of a 110 m2 terrace with stunning 270-degree views over the whole of Manchester to the east and to Old Trafford and along the ship canal to the south. The clients wanted a space that was great to view from inside the modern penthouse apartment as well as for sitting within and admiring the surrounding views from the terrace itself. The overall idea for the scheme is based on connections to the surrounding water and views, with muted colours and a modern contemporary feel. The new scheme consists of a composite deck area surrounded by a sea of black stones, with built in seating and huge GRP planters. A large wall that was previously somewhat of an eyesore has been clad with black composite material and is now a feature with a brushed stainless steel water blade and a trellis system for Hydrangea petiolaris. Enclosure of the Northern boundary has been achieved with large screens of variegated Hedera helix ‘White Ripple’ whilst views are framed and structure provided with 5 cube planters housing multi-stemmed Betula utilis var jaquemontii. ‘The clients are thrilled with the terrace and we are pleased that people are beginning to realize the value of these outside spaces on the roof’ said Liz Ackerley. ‘All we need to do now is to convince the management companies that are overseeing these buildings that greening and improving the grey is good for everyone!’

Martha Schwartz Pluit City Island 1 is a proposed 160 hectare reclaimed island in Jakarta Bay North of the historic town centre, for a population of 70,000 residents. Martha Schwartz is working on a project which comprises of a masterplan by SOM with Shop Houses (Ruko), a shopping plaza, office towers, apartment blocks and beach houses. The open spaces are a prominent factor in developing a rich lifestyle and green place to live. A large central park of 90,000 sqm ‘stitches’ together the soft green western edge with the harder urban western edge and provides an opportunity to for a contemporary park not only for the Island, but for Jakarta. In addition, the development provides a number of community parks, with play areas, club houses, swimming pools and sporting areas. Plazas with extensive and dynamic shade structures are provided for markets, food stalls and weekend events. With 6,000 metres of waterfront, the treatment of the edge is a major part of the design of the island. MSP design utilized this transition between land and water as recreational linear parks, with bicycle circuits, plazas for cafes, and methods to drawing people close to the water edge. An innovative approach to extend the use of existing Mangroves is proposed.
Working closely with SOM and the client the landscape is a key factor in the projects water management system. Each year, during the rainy season between November and March, the volume of water significantly rises. Over 5% of the island is occupied by different water bodies to hold and purify storm and grey water that gets recycled back into the use of community. This amenity plays a unique element in the design of the Central Park and how landscape program is intertwined amongst canals. Martha Schwartz is one of the featured speakers at this years LANDSCAPE Show in Battersea Park in September.

PRO Landscape unveiled the first standalone landscape and garden design app for landscape professionals. The PRO Landscape Contract app lets you create stunning visual designs right on your iPad or Android tablet. Simply take a picture with your tablet and drag and drop plants, add in mulch, grass, hardscapes, statuary and much more. Nothing helps close a sale faster than communicating your design ideas to a customer using a photograph of their house or garden. With PRO Landscape Contractor it’s easy to create designs on--site, even with the customer watching. “I took my iPad to estimate a job for a customer who couldn’t visualize anything. It just took a few minutes to create a design and she was blown away! 5 minutes later I had a deposit and her job was scheduled,” said Kerry Stinnett of Lawn Tek Landscaping. “We are proud to continue to provide the best landscape design solutions for professionals with the release of the first landscape tablet app for professionals. We’ve had great success with our PRO Landscape Companion app but we’ve had lots of requests from landscape contractors and garden centres for a standalone app. We are excited to release PRO Landscape Contractor to fill that need,” said Pete Lord, President of Drafix Software, Inc. Hahn Plastics
Together Housing Group wanted to replace and upgrade the existing timber fencing on their housing estates. The aim of the work programme was primarily to provide significant visual improvements to the street scene; providing attractive, tidy and secure fencing. The resulting fencing programme using Hanit® recycled plastic fencing received a great deal of positive feedback. The residents were pleased with its improved visual appeal. They also appreciated that the traditional timber look was being maintained. Hanit® recycled plastic fencing offers an alternative to the use of traditional materials such as timber, metal and concrete. The completed fencing programme has considerably improved the dynamics of the community. It has provided a better, safer outdoor living environment for residents and for children to play in. The community take more pride and responsibility for the new environment. This is very much part of the ethos of Together Housing, who often employ staff from the communities where they deliver fencing programmes. Newground is a social enterprise operating throughout the North of England and is a member of the Together Housing Group. As a social enterprise, any profits made are reinvested back into the charity. Newground Together then distribute it to local environmental and community projects across the north of England. Newground deliver a training programme for the THG, providing work basedopportunities for people out of work. CPD Certification
As part of LANDSCAPE’s ongoing commitment towards uniting the industry and enhancing the professional qualifications of it’s practitioners, all of the seminars at this year’s LANDSCAPE Show will qualify for CPD learning points. This accreditation means that attending any of the Seminar Sessions hosted in all theatres now counts towards delegates’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. CPD is defined as ‘a commitment to structured skills enhancement and personal or professional competence’ and organisations that are granted membership by the CPD Certification Service must clearly demonstrate expertise in their field and provide a place for industry to turn to for advice and guidance.
LANDSCAPE which opens in Battersea Park, London on the 23rd of September 2014, will be running an extensive free two-day seminar programme. The full programme will be available to view online in August at www.landscpeshow.co.uk.
On achieving CPD certification for the programmes, Event Director Jeremy Storey-Walker says: “We are delighted to offer visitors to LANDSCAPE the broadest range of free and relevant content delivered by some of the highest-level experts in the industry. We believe this exciting offer is enhanced further through the ability of delegates at these presentations to credit their attendance towards their CPD.” “Being accepted as a member of the CPD Certification Scheme also reinforces the quality of LANDSCAPE’s seminar programme and the real value that delegates can gain from attending these sessions.” Attendees will receive their Certificates of Attendance at the end of each session they attend.
