Few things inspire me like a confident stylish woman, from the click of her heels to the faint trace of her favorite scent. Muses throughout time have been intelligent and strikingly beautiful, so it seemed only fair that with our issue divided, I gave rise to powerful women inspiring the Elevated Lifestyle and what they might enjoy this holiday season. Starting strong is our cover star and Actress AnnaLynne McCord. Recently appointed Creative Director for Los Angeles based luxury brand Thomas Wylde; Jene Parks shares her success story. London designer Marissa Montgomery takes us to her favorite hot spots at home. Mighty Tallia Storm proves age can never stop a woman. LETTER FROM THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR
WINTER
CREATIVE DIRECTOR This may be the most amazing experience in my life. I am paid to give fashion/style advice to women, dress celebrities and the very wealthy. I get to fly around the world, walk red carpets, eat at the best restaurants and lay my head on the best pillows where royalty have slept. But now, coming from just being on the cover of LAPALME to being one of its new owners AND the new creative director, I get to share all this with you for free in every issue. The most important thing you need to know is that I am not rich. Not even close. I make no bones about it. But, I am very wealthy. Knowledge is power. I have the inside scoop on just about everything glam and if I don’t, I know someone that does. This entire magazine and its GLAM ON THE GO makeover is because I want to teach all of you one thing. Grab a pen, I want all of you to live an elevated lifestyle. Remember that term, elevated lifestyle. You are going to start hearing it, especially if you are a LAPALME reader. We are going to show you how to have a fabulous life and not be rich! I’m not saying you are not going to have to make choices. You might not be able to ‘check in’ to The Corinthia Hotel for a weeks stay in London but you can certainly go for a drink after your facial with Lisa Franklin behind Harrods (see page 48). Can you believe our first female cover star? I’m a huge fan! Not only did I love Beverly Hills 90210, but, what I really love is the life she has that no one knows about. I first met AnnaLynne McCord at the Saving Innocence Gala (see page 40). She was speaking with such passion about being a sex offender survivor, I know she is the right cover star. Passion, love and glamour are all things that appeal to me. Plus, I only want strong women who know who they are and that help others to represent us. Ladies, I can’t thank you enough for picking up our new issue. Our growth, is your growth. I want to show you how to live the best life you can, and be the best that you can be! My life is dedicated to having respect and love for women, I hope I can live up to my aspirations.

Drink your favorite drinks from fine-cut crystal and serve your secret recipes wrapped in baroque embellished serving dishes. Feast with love off the finest. WINTER THE TRUTH WITH ANNALYNNE McCORD
McCORD
ANNALYNNE Because every girl matters
In a single afternoon, everything I thought about AnnaLynne McCord changed. A woman once seen as just another beautiful actress in Hollywood, she is far more sophisticated, witty, and passionate than you’d imagine. Recently named the Chairman of the Board of the New Somaly Mam Fund, AnnaLynne is doing more than acting. She is an activist and humanitarian changing the lives of young girls rescued from sex trafficking in Cambodia. Over the past 8 years, she has been instrumental in providing these girls with more than comforting hugs and a sunshine smile. In fact, she has personally funded many of these girls’ college educations. And that... is just one of the reasons to fall in love with her. As a 28 year-old actress actively working in the entertainment industry, she is quite extraordinary. Arriving at the LAPALME photo shoot with Photographer TJ Manou and Stylist, Derek Warburton. AnnaLynne was breathtaking. She greeted me dressed in a stunning creamy cashmere sweater, camel suede pants, shoes to die for and an effortless demeanor that immediately warms you. Big smile, bright, beautiful eyes,
and a killer sense of humor, talking to her was nothing short of endearing. She is as candid and well spoken as they come and it’s refreshing. When it came time to pause for a little sustenance, the title of her web series, “TRUTH” seamlessly sums up who she is. We begin the interview by diving right in …
ON SOMALY MAM You’re now the face of the New Somaly Fund and you were just in Cambodia over Thanksgiving and are going again over Christmas. When you go, are you a part of the extractions? Somaly does the actual raids of the brothels. I would totally go but she would never let me. A lot of my role is that I spend a lot of time with the girls, which is my favorite part but then there’s also the relationship building with the government there. There’s thankfully a lot of support. The Prime Minister is a fan of 90210, which helps in the development of relationships with the country. It helps on a lot of levels, especially early on when I got involved. The PM’s granddaughters were big fans. It’s an interesting dynamic because I’m there to see the girls and the world’s are so

different but the PM’s granddaughters were so lovely. We talked about the contrast in situations and how there was this common theme of shame and displacement. They would be driving off of their gorgeous compound in their Range Rover brigade driving through the streets and be subjected to seeing some of the most extreme poverty in the world. These girls felt so ashamed of their lifestyle. They had survivors guilt for lack of a better term. I really had an understanding of how lucky they were and the stark difference in lifestyle weighed on them but they had to keep smiling because this is the life they were born into. It just goes to show that growing up in the slums of Cambodia or in the home of the political leaders, you still feel your own different levels of guilt or shame. Some people think one person has it easier than the other but in truth, those feelings are not subject to social class or economic welfare. How often do you go? I started right at the beginning of 90210. I actually was considering quitting acting when I got that job. I thought about just going back to New York, being a barista, going to college and finding out what I could do in this world to really make a difference. I loved acting but I didn’t know why and I needed a why. The Producers from 90210 kept calling to offer me the job and it wasn’t until a friend of mine called me, that I realized that if I took the job it would allow me the platform and opportunity to really do something important outside of acting.
LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM
So, I took the job. That’s when I started educating myself on child sex trafficking and I met Somaly Mam. Somaly has taught me so much and her personal understanding of what these girls were experiencing, I just knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. It makes me happy to work with the girls. They helped me face my own sexual assault and admit it happened, That’s transforming. Their stories are horrifying. Girls that are 6-8 years old that have been raped are sold as sex slaves, but through Somaly Mam, they are able to re-narrate their lives. With counseling, integrating the arts as a means of healing, and getting an education, including college, these girls are given a second chance. Somaly always says it takes 5 minutes to save a girl but then what? They need a place to go, to facilitate their healing. For me, I feel like I’m just showing up, but for these girls that have never had anyone show up for them, it means everything. At this point, she is so overcome by the passion she has for Somaly and these girls, it’s honestly, inspiring.
ON The TRUTH + Staying Relevant From her work with the Somaly Mam Foundation to her new talk show, to her film, “Trash Fire” going to Sundance, she has been a very busy gal! AnnaLynne’s Talk Show is appropriately called, “TRUTH”. In her words, she wanted to do a show where she could stay in bed, wear pajamas and just talk “real” with people. And so, that’s

precisely what she does. A new take on “pillow talk”, TRUTH covers all things. From the every day to sex to relationships and everything in between, this show is about what’s happening in people’s real lives, No smoke or mirrors.
So tell me about TRUTH … We did a test audience in May, We’ve had a really good response. Basically I invite you to come get in bed with me and talk about anything – there’s no filter. I do video chats with people from my Instagram from all around the world. It’s an hour-long show that is set to air next Spring. In the film starring opposite Adrian Grenier from Entourage, AnnaLynne plays Pearl, a woman burned on over 85% of her body with a rather haunting past and a compelling story. It’s a far cry from her role as Naomi on 90210. I heard your film got into Sundance, congratulations! What else is happening? What’s been going on since 90210? Yeah, Trash Fire! It’s exciting and that role was so gnarly. It was great to play such a different role. But gosh, there’s probably too much happening since 90210! After the show I wrote a sci-fi novel that I still haven’t done anything with (Yep! She is a total science nerd and we love that!). I am seriously considering going back to college. I love studying and being educated. I listen to neurobiology lectures on the plane when I’m
traveling. I’m a functioning hypomaniac. I sleep two hours and tend to take on as much as I can. I just did “Secrets & Lies” and it’s such a great cast and crew. I love Juliette Lewis and working with her is phenomenal. As for being relevant, Hollywood is an industry where you’re hot one minute and cold the next. Staying relevant is a continual thing. Being able to ride those waves is what being a fearless artist is about. Luck is for the ill prepared.
An INTIMATE DETAIL After a compelling conversation, I asked AnnaLynne one more question. The question? Tell me something no one really knows about you. The answer: I’m painfully shy with men I like. I’m all in with a casual relationship but petrified of intimacy and getting too close to someone. As a 28 year-old woman, I want a partner. I want to be with someone where I can be totally free. I have such a hard time saying something intimate and I’m challenging myself to be more open with my heart. The only thing I fear is fear so now, I’m facing it head on. AnnaLynne may be beautiful with piercing eyes, perfect cheek bones, and a body every stylist wants to dress, but she also happens to be immensely smart, fiercely driven, and generous with her heart and her time. On a balmy night in October, Movers and shakers in the entertainment industry, activists and law enforcment’s best gathered at the Beverly Hills SLS Hotel for The Fourth Annual Saving Innocence Gala. The event, focused on continuing the mission to end child sex trafficking in the United States. “The buying and selling of humans has now surpassed the buying and selling of weapons, and is projected to surpass the trafficking of drugs,” proclaims the inspirational actress Jenna Elfman who has been working as an ambassador for Saving Innocence for several years. Jenna Elfman states, “Since I was a little girl, I was very sensitive to injustices in the world. I would see and feel those around me in pain, or being treated unfairly, and would be compelled to do something about it! So now, as an adult, I truly CAN do something about it.” Hosts ranging from Actress Erika Christensen to Brooklyn99’s Terry crews took time out to pay tribute to the heroes on the front line of the human trafficking.

projects provide an easy entry point of recognizable objects, but from there it’s a small journey that the artwork and viewer hopefully takes together. A dialogue ensues, and an equal “giveand”take” relationship is demanded from both. At its best, art worth experiencing should be challenging and take things to task. The whole experience seems to reflect on itself. A sort of metadiscourse on art appreciation, your practice seems to ask the audience to consciously think about the way they apprehend a work of art. Your described this as a power struggle can you expand on that thought? I thought of this power dynamic during the “Sensation” show in Brooklyn about 15 years ago, when Giuliani was demanding to censor the work of Chris Ofili. I was asking myself what “decency standards” would consist of, if a contemporary art gestapo had its way. Historically, in propaganda posters and films, art has served politicians and political ends in almost repressive terms. I wanted to explore this relationship. When a viewer enters any exhibition space, he or she determines the criteria for looking: how long to look at something, under what aesthetic criteria, and so on. In doing so, control is asserted over the work. In some of my works, I try to invert this control in favor of the artwork and render the viewer helpless. It’s a political role reversal in which the artwork assumes a dictatorial character, but not so easily recognized as such. I want such works to activate and “actionize,” not just passively reveal Googled demographics or academically preach to the choir, as most socio-politically motivated work nowadays tend to do. Where can we see your work at the moment? I am currently in a two-person show at Galerie Quynh in Ho Chi Minh City, then next May I’ll do a solo in Milan with mc2gallery. In between I’ll print guns with a 3D printer and give them away. Where are you headed next and how does the future look? I’m stationed in Ho Chi Minh City at the moment, and my goal over the next year is to explore the scene in Southeast Asia. I want to check out Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Jakarta, and all the other amazing stuff in Vietnam. I want to do a motorbike trip in the north and camp in those massive underground caves. Southeast Asia is a part of the world that is its own massive cultural ecosystem, one that is also very dismissive of the egocentric western art world, and I like this. I love you New York, but fuck you.

It is no wonder how she has made herself a force to be reckoned with in the fashion universe.
JOURNALISTA Fashion and lifestyle correspondent Alicia Quarles takes us into her world of style, philosophy and philanthropy.
Who is your favorite journalist? It’s a long list. Seeing Lester Holt take over the nightly news spot after many years of hard work is great to witness. Another is Katie Couric – the queen of reinvention. She’s worked across every format imaginable, and is now doing digital. She sees the future, and gets there before everyone else. Lastly, Lilliana Vazquez – she’s doing the Meredith Vieira show and is everywhere and has worked tirelessly to get to where she is.

JOURNALISTA
You have endless access to designer fashions. Who are some of your favorite designers to wear for events and out on the town? I love Zac Posen. Zac is a personal friend and took a chance on me as a young journalist and I try to return the favor whenever or wherever I can. I also love wearing Kara Ross jewelry and her clutches. Kara is all about empowering other women and her pieces show it. Finally, I also love wearing Tracy Reese, DVF, Chanel and Stuart Weitzman. Who do you think had a standout year in Fashion? Public School. Going from their brand to designing for Donna Karan, those two guys could not have had a bigger year. They’re also working with Tumi Luggage, they’re everywhere. Also, my icon for the year is Gigi Hadid. She’s versatile and came out at the MTV awards looking like a bronze goddess.
What are your two signature lip and perfume items found in your purse? My signature scent is Hermes, which is a men’s cologne. And my signature lipstick is a pretty nude/beige color by Armani which goes with everything. A woman has to have bronzer – Ben Nye bronzer is currently in my purse. What 5 fashion and beauty items can you not live without? Liquid liner, black. Fake lashes, Ardell. Bliss eyepads – they take out puffing in the eyes. Chanel bags, a girl’s got to have a little something something’. American Eagle jeans, I love them. What are some other charities that you would like to have on people’s radar? Bright Pink. It really raises awareness of breast cancer and ovarian cancer and I’m really happy to be involved in it.
WINTER
As a strong media personality and journalist, what is your best advice to those women looking to create a fruitful and rewarding career amidst a competitive environment? It’s definitely competitive, but here’s the thing, we’re all unique. There’s only one you, so do you. What is your strength? Go out there and kill it. What is your weakness? Go out there and learn how to do those things better. Do you and be the best you that can be. What are some positive words or thoughts that you use to get things going? Nobody will hustle for you, like you. You need to be your own best promoter. Always be ready when opportunity strikes. I say thank you every morning, I get to do a job I love. I’m very grateful for each day. Do you think Fashion Journalism gets the respect it deserves? I don’t think it does, actually. When I started working I noticed some people look down upon it as frivolous. Fashion journalism is serious. Making it as a designer in the industry is very hard to do, and those who succeed deserve coverage and respect. I recently wrote a piece on this about how the road to modeling is almost paved in blood. You see the glamour but not the path the people took to get there. It’s a constant effort to present a glossy image, but there’s a great deal of hard work and dedication behind it. What upcoming projects do you have that you’re most excited about? I have so much going on – going down to Atlanta for Headline News soon and I’m working with Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent. If you are going out, what are some of your favorite places or restaurants to visit? In Chicago, I have to go to the Soho House. In LA, it’s Korea Town. In New York, I love the Boom Boom Room, or going to the Mandarin Oriental, it has some of the best bars and views of the city. When I’m abroad, I ask the people what they recommend. It’s a great way to find things that are off the beaten path.

One Gutsy move by a 13-year-old with the right set of pipes and Tallia’s life was forever changed. While on holiday in Hawaii she saw a once in a lifetime opportunity to get her demo CD into the hands of Sir Elton John. “It was just one of those instinctual things,” explains Tallia over tea and shortbread in London’s Corinthia Hotel. “What were the chances of being in the same place as Sir Elton again? I knew I just had to go for it. Basically I had nothing to lose!” Jump forward 3 years and you discover that she has performed around the world, been dubbed a teen style icon by international fashion editors and is a regular on the front rows at London Fashion Week. “It’s difficult not to get immersed in the world’s addiction to fashion on social media. But the reality is, most of us are puppets to fashion. We don’t understand that fashion is a barometer of our cultural and even social identity? We are slaves to trends without putting our own individuality on our looks. If we look back at our Instagram account over the years, it’s not just a collection of images, it’s an iconography of our mood, expressed in our style and vision at that particular time. That’s why I like to play with fashion and have fun with it, be adventurous, otherwise it’s boring. I’ve just

turned 17 for goodness sake, I have all the time in the world to be safe and sensible – although not sure I would ever mould to that category. If you don’t like what I’m wearing then hey, look elsewhere!” I discover that her love of jazz came from her father, a producer, composer and accomplished musician. She began improvising to the great legends like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington when she was just a child. She progressed from jazz to soul and R&B. She gushes about Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar and Drake and has no time for her contemporaries who always want to take the fast track to fame “I’ve only been doing this for a few years. There’s no shortcut. You need to learn your craft and develop your own sound – not someone else’s sound. It takes time. Sure people like Amy Winehouse and Beyoncé inspire me, but I don’t want to be them, who could? I want people to listen to my sound and instantly recognize me, I want to fill stadiums one day, singing live is what it is all about for me. It should be all about the singing and the journey that it takes to get there.” Upon listening to her music, there’s definitely a powerful, unique soulful signature in there and an impressive set of lungs for one so young. (Perhaps it is the mix of Scottish, Italian and German blood in her?) Who knows? You cannot help think that with such a refreshing and steely determination that she will without a doubt end up at the top - in her own time.

Nigel Barker Sits Down With LAPALME’ to Discuss his Unique Insight into the Fashion Industry and his Latest Book Models of Influence. Nigel has seen it all and took note along the way of those who forged their own path and became trailblazers for those who followed. Join us as we discuss this seminal work with a trailblazer in his own right. Your book, Models of Influence, discusses both the bitter with the sweet and details some of the aspects of the fashion industry which aren’t its most flattering angles. Was this among one of your aims or goals when you set out to write the book, or did it arise when you put pen to paper? I decided to write the book in large part because after 25 years working in the business I had never seen a book which had talked about models where you realize how important they had been, not only in pop culture but in changing the way we see beauty. Models are often blamed for the body image issues which people claim comes from the fashion world, but they are very rarely commended for the work they’ve done and pioneering efforts in changing the idea of beauty and advancing the image to where we are today. The book is full of trailblazers – each one has their own story. There are similarities as well insofar as they each had a drive and desire to push through, which is the aspect which links them all together. As you detail the various ages and eras, you examine the brief, but powerful age of the Androgynous. Are we still seeing the results of the message of that time? That’s one of the interesting things throughout the book, not just the androgynous era but throughout – what you see is that after any one era you get a knee jerk reaction the opposite direction. It’s as if the youth of that era look back and move in the opposite direction. With that, there’s the fact that we as a society are learning and growing and becoming more accepting, communicating more in the global community. With the androgynous era it was coming right after the 80s – which was a very intoxicating era. World markets were soaring, people had a lot of money, and for the first time big designer names were creating fusion lines like denim, accessories, and fragrances were catering to new groups with the financial capability to obtain fashions which were beyond their reach. The lines exploded and the models became superstars. Then came the ‘90s, markets crashed, pop culture and music saw the rise of people like Kurt Cobain and Nirvana singing about the excesses of the prior era. So androgyny came about because those social influences moving away from the prior era. You noticeably examine Coco Rocha first among your discussion of the modern age. Is there something in particular about Coco which you think explains why she just captures the attention? Coco is a great friend of mine and someone I initially admired from afar before getting to work with her many times. She is someone who is not a conventional model. She’s someone who is a force

of nature. No doubt she’s a stunning woman, but what she was brilliant at is being very in touch with the times, specifically social media. She had her finger on the pulse and really opened up the fashion industry on what it was like being and becoming a model, bringing everyone in on things like casting, her trials, tribulations and successes. She was the very first. You similarly feature Christie Brinkley first among her peers. What do you think has led to her remarkable career which continues to remind us that she remains one of the most beautiful women in the room. She is one of those women where you show her image to a room full of people anywhere in the room and people sigh. You literally hear them sigh. Christie was the reaction to the excesses of the 70s – sex, drugs and disco. She was healthy, radiant beauty – she epitomized what America wanted. She was a very unique model who was not just a commercial model in swimsuits but transcended that to do high fashion. Very few models ever did that. Staying in that era which brought us, as you call it “the Million Dollar Faces,” you begin the chapter with a stunning image of Karl Lagerfeld at work. How much is an era defined by its models versus the designers? Is there a balance that is achieved during the era between model and cutting edge? Absolutely. Certainly what’s interesting is, earlier on, the models were the muses of the designers, and a designer finds the model who epitomized the looks and almost becomes the brand. That relationship was vital and models were sought out and made into superstars by the designers and by photographers. However, now, what we’re seeing is social media and the people are selecting the next group. A model may not have a full portfolio but has a million followers and all of a sudden designers and advertisers are interested in them because they realized people like them and have made the selection already.

THOMAS
WYLDE We talk with Thomas Wylde Creative Director Jene Park about being a fashion badass in La-La Land.
As Creative Director of British Rock and Roll inspired luxury brand, Thomas Wylde, Jene Park, is one busy GirlBoss. Jene designs 4 seasons and 8 collections of RTW, shoes and accessories, a lengthy and intense process she compares to delivering a child. “I cultivate the design while constantly thinking about the collection, feeling, dreaming, fixing and taking care of the whole process intensely all the way to the final product.” From intern to key executive to creative head showing at New York Fashion Week, Jene is a designer you should watch. You’ve spent a decade working at BCBG Max Azria, where you went from intern to a key executive guiding the company to becoming a major global brand. What was your key takeaway from your time with BCBG and how did it help you in building Thomas Wylde? Everything I need to know in the fashion industry I learned from Max and Lubov Azria, my mentors and one-time bosses. Max Azria, who I consider a genius and visionary, built the company from nothing to a multibillion dollar empire by understanding what the market needs. Max’s idea of feeding the market with well-made, high fashion, quality product at an affordable price point was more of a Zara concept today. While I learned keen business sense from Max,

I learned the entire spectrum of design aspects from Lubov Azria. Lubov has the most incredible taste in fashion and style. Her instinctual understanding of trend and what today’s modern women wants was the part I learned the most working and traveling together with her. She taught me about the best material, details, construction and fit. She is truly my mentor and one person I respect the most in the industry. However one thing that I took away from my experience at BCBG was “hard work”. They both believed in their dreams and have made it come true by working hard. No matter what happens with the company, through all the ups and downs, they are always taking care of their business and putting in their blood, sweat and tears. Who are you designing for? Who is your ideal client/muse? I don’t particularly design for a client or muse. I design for the modern women who works, perhaps takes care of a family and raises children herself and juggles many things in her life. She has a personal style that has a little bit of an edge and understands what works for herself and her body shape. She enjoys fine things in her life and works hard for the things she believes in. She wants to purchase a luxurious product that she can enjoy season after season rather than focus on the trends. There’s nothing makes me happier than helping clients who purchased Thomas Wylde and are truly happy and
LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM
excited to wear that product for many years to come. Describe your creative process, where do the ideas come from? With Thomas Wylde, I have 4 seasons and 8 collections of RTW, Shoes and Accessories that I need to design. My first step is to come up with the theme and concept of the season. The seasonal concept comes from whatever inspires me at that moment, and with the brand DNA in mind I come up with the story I want to tell. From there, I work with my very talented and dedicated creative team to expand the concept. Since we create everything in-house for a particular season, we start to research to build the color story, create mood boards, select fabrics, create prints, and develop hardware. Then, we start designing each group and each divisions based on the concept of the season. Once we have finished the concept and design, samples are made by highly skilled artisans. Typically, we go through extensive design process from drape to fitting and put together the collection we want to present. Which skills/applications do you use daily (versus occasionally) in your position as a creative head? Fitting: Trying clothing on I try on every single style that we produce to ensure proper fit and feeling of the garment. It is truly one of most important design processes.

Thomas Wylde is a edgy fashion brand in a more commercial city what kind of challenges to you find being a lone wolf? Thomas Wylde is a Los Angeles base brand. In the fashion industry now, there is huge interest in California and many top fashion houses and brands are looking for inspiration from California and consider LA a fashion destination. However, back when we first established our house in LA, there’s almost no luxury, lifestyle brands here. That actually made us unique and different. We were sitting here in LA, not get influenced by any other houses and developing our own identity in our own way, which really makes us stand out in the industry. Love the chain necklaces and crucifixes used. Is there a deeper meaning to them? I always loved the chain as one of the elements that represent our rock and roll sprit. Chains can change the perceptions of an ordinary object and make it cool. The spring summer 2016 collection for Thomas Wylde was all about chain and crosses, tons of crosses catching lights and dangles from the chain that connects past, present and the future. I call that evolution. These are symbols of rebirth, and the rebirth of the Thomas Wylde brand. Thomas Wylde has been in the market for a decade, and when I took over as creative director I wanted to express my desire to evolve as a designer, as a human, as a society. I wanted evolve it to the next level. For this, I wanted to take one of the most important elements from past of Thomas Wylde collections and bring it to the next decade of the brand’s direction. For me it is truly a symbol reminding me where we came from and where we want to go. What’s next for Thomas Wylde? We have many exciting news coming. One, we are launching an eyewear collection and the first Thomas Wylde shades will be presented in early 2016. I just took campaign shots of our signature shape and it is probably one of the coolest sunglasses on the market. Our partner, Sama Eyewear, is an award-winning premium luxury eyewear brand founded by Sheila Vance in 1997 and she will launching Thomas Wylde Eyewear at Vision Expo east in spring 2016. It will be distributed globally. We are also working on developing a full collection of footwear and accessories as well as Thomas Wylde Jeans. The company’s vision is to be an American lifestyle brand producing a full luxury product line.

I explore the world at every opportunity because inspiration always lies just around the corner”, says Chef Chris Mills. “Sitting down at a table with others to eat and drink together – sharing plates of delicious food, opening a bottle of wine, having great conversation – this is as universal as love and laughter.” When you walk into the chic restaurant adorned with rustic wood paneled walls, cast iron accented chandeliers, and the neon sign reminding you to live a little, you know you’re in for a treat. Pair that with the Sushi Cones and the Grilled Spanish Octopus for something light and undeniably fresh. If you’re feeling LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM
a little gluttonous, try the Super Sonic Gin & Tonic rightfully topped with fresh lime slushy or the Elderberry Collins garnished with a watermelon radish. Wake up your palate and pair either of those (or both) with the Hibachi Chicken Wings and the Duck Poutine (which is out of this world) and round it out with the Ahi Tuna Salad. Now that you’ve sampled the starters, it’s time to move on to dinner. This of course begs some perusing of their wine list and a revisiting of their delectable cocktails. With carefully chosen wines that span the globe, you can opt for a Sanford Estate Chardonnay or a bottle of the Dominique Lafon Volnay. The selection they carry caters to an expansive array of wine lovers. For something stronger, their mixologists pay an homage to decades past by offering drinks that inspire you to have some fun. Made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, you can soak up the crispness of the Stiff Lemonade or go for a little hair of the dog with the Old Fashioned. JOEY’s is thoughtful in their approach to cuisine and when you’re out with the girls, you want that. So now that you’ve sampled some cocktails and wine, it’s time to eat! This is where you the menu really shines. With influences from around the world, you can travel through India with the Bollywood Butter Chicken, Italy with the Lobster Prawn Ravioli, Spain with a Paella you’ll continue to crave, keep it simple with a top grade cut of USDA Prime Steak or stay on track with a Veggie Burger. Every dish is prepared with ingredients that don’t take your tastebuds for granted. Chef Mills and his culinary team put their passion onto the plate and it is exemplified in every bite.

DRESS DISCLOSURE
DRESS DISCLOSURE

LUIS AYUSO
I recently got a chance to sit down with designer Christian Siriano at Neiman Marcus Mall at Millenia where he gave me insight into his new collections and the real deal on dressing big celebrities and red carpet regrets.
I think it is important in each collection to have a few unique pieces that show why we do what do. Every season I create beautiful wearable pieces that woman will want to buy and those special pieces that I really work on and create.
Christian, take us through your resort and spring collections you brought today. Well, Resort is all about 60’s Palm Springs very colorful, vibrant, and beautiful and the moving sands of Morocco inspired spring so it is light and airy. It is exciting to see both in one section.
Are the special pieces what end up on J.lo? Are you friends, do you get to drink “cafesito” with her? (Laughing) I wish! She is way too cool for me; I barely get to see her every time she wears one of my pieces I am in a different city.
Do you have a specific process for designing your next collection? Not really, inspiration is all around us; a very random process that can happen whenever/wherever.
Have you ever dressed a celebrity then seen her on the red carpet and thought, “what did I do?” There has been a time or two that we have sent pieces to stylists and either the hair or makeup does not match or she wore the wrong shoe and I think it is the wrong dress and it’s MY dress!
Have you loved a fabric you could not work with? Every now and then yes, but if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work, I move on quickly. That is how you stay sane otherwise you go crazy! You are known for your technique and workmanship, how do you translate that into each collection?
What can we see coming out this year? Well I just launched new tech accessories with Best Buy, which was fun because it was a very new design process. New shoes and bags for Payless and my collection for Lane Bryant, It will be an exciting year!

THE JEWELRY DESIGNS OF MIKA ALTIDOR
BOHEMIAN CHIC
WINTER
LAPALMEMAGAZINE.COM
The jewelry creations of Mika Altidor have been described as “Fashion-forward Bohemian with understated chic’- a truly accurate depiction of the avante garde qualities of the beauty of the Woman and the pieces this Artist creates. Her self-described goal is “to create pieces that are fashionable with an effortless sense of elegance about them”. One of the primary means of achieving this objective is her use of unique materials – including Swarovski crystals, fresh water pearls, glass, hemp, silver and gold, Quartz and Jasper, among others. She notes, “Unique works are always comprised of unique elements. With an unlimited availability of sublime resources, my mind is free to explore exponential creativity!”
72
WINTER
And explore she does, literally in the world around her which she incorporates into the designs. “God is the source of the beauty that surrounds us, and it is from this beauty that the piece originates. Nature, travel, Botanical gardens, flowers, and especially my clients themselves - there is beauty in everything, and an individual unique beauty in every person. We simply need to focus on what’s here, right now, look beyond the obvious and a beauty of incomparable substance always reveals itself. I then combine this experience with the material in my hands, using my eyes and mind for direction and my heart for inspiration, and it all comes together in almost a transcendental immaculate conception!” Color is also a guiding theme in her work. The season, the emotion, the depth and substance of the client, all are critic concerns. She notes the importance of being aware of the color trend for the upcoming season and using colors that compliment these trends.
Her personal philosophy is manifested in the way she creates her jewelry – “You only live once – live well while doing good to others along the way.” And her effort to live in the present is also found in her favorite quote, and also reflected in her creations – “Starve your distractions, feed your focus”, by Jonas ??? “When I’m designing, that’s the extent of my universe.”
Similarly, she began in the fashion industry as a Designer, but she followed her heart and it was in jewelry in which she found creative Nirvana. When you’re doing what you love, it’s not work. This was how I was able to teach myself. I didn’t read a book, I explored my soul. It’s hard to describe, but it just happened and it continues to happen with each new piece. Like looking into the eyes of someone you love, you know it, and no one has to tell you it’s love!”
And her advice to Women, in any pursuit, recognizes the importance of both external and internal influences – “Immerse yourself fully, surround yourself with like-minded people and have a sense of humor. Know that you are free to be yourself and live with that freedom as your guide!”
While her greatest influences were found near to her in her family, her inspirational sources are diverse. She describes her Mother as a “Super Hero whom everyone loves” and her Sister as a strong influence. “If my Sister smiles when I show her a piece, I know it works. She has a great eye for fashion!”
As a Custom Jewelry Artisan Mika loves being offered commissions and the challenge they afford, but the customer must expect to be fully involved in the process, as Mika encourages her customers to share as much as they’d like about who see is designing for. “My approach to custom pieces is not only knowing what a person likes, but what they are missing. My goal is to design a creation that fills the void in what’s missing in their life.” Mika’s work can be seen online at www. MMCjewelry.com Mika will be continuing her Media Tour on ABC, CBS and Fox. She also will be hosting Trunk Shows throughout the Southeast during this upcoming year and expanding into new retail locations. writer

ruffles A bold new fold. The redefined ruffle trend as seen in oversized and cascading styles shows us that this resort ruffle is fun and elegant. Givenchy used strong ruffles in interesting places to make a statement. While Gucci showed a softer side of over-all ruffles. Rosie Assoulin cascaded dramatic ruffles in a fresh delightful way.

Dior and Oscar De La Renta do feminine pleats that play with a womans shape. Altuzarra adds texture and visual interest in a modern pleat. flourishing florals
fashion refraction Resort wear colors fall in a brilliant spectrum of colors and designers are enjoying the creative freedom this season allows. Combining color blocks in new ways and truly expanding the arrangements of colors, allowing us to see the range of fabulous fashions. Chanel plays with colors all over the runway and the arrangement of colors on each piece shows endless opportunities for the perfect outfit. Red Valentino reflects the colors of the rainbow and makes them wearable. Sonia Rykiel sparkles with looks that dazzle with every move. Clean and primary Thom Brown color blocks with patterns and plays with your eyes.

Flourishing florals. Resort wear comes from a place of relaxation and beauty so naturally florals stay a staple for the exceptionally interesting fashion season. The fun about florals is they still blend with the season’s trends, showcased in new silhouettes. Proenza Schouler played with a kimono style sleeve in a sparse floral. Max Mara bloom print jumpsuit is a chic all-over knockout. Marc Jacobs saw right through this trend and created detailed embellished see through gowns that topped off resort to the T.
