As we bare the Summer heat, the days get longer and the temperatures start to rise. The weather can leave our skin feeling dry and itchy, and it's important to change up your skincare routine. Here are some skincare tips to incorporate into your Summer regimen to rock the perfect glow.
Moisturize - your skin typically become oilier as the weather starts to warm up. Substitute your heavy duty creams for lighter serums and lotions.
Protect - since the sun stays out longer, it is important to protect your skin against its harmful rays. Be sure to wear sunscreen with at least a 15 SPF rating.
Exfoliate - your skin will have some damage from the Winter season. Use a gentle exfoliant a few times a week to remove dead skin and keep your complexion bright.
Nutrition - incorporate fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants to improve the tone and appearance of your skin.
Clean - throw away any skincare or makeup that are older than six months, as expired items can host a buildup of bacteria.

I can’t express how LAPALME has been such a blessing in my life. Between the international opportunities and the people i get to meet and work with, it has been incredible.. As I sit here and write to you now I am recovering from jet lag after an incredible trip to Budapest and Feeric Fashion week in Sibiu, Romania. But more about that in the Fall issue. I love that I get to work with my friends. One of our main fashion features in this issue is the wonderful Chloe Bridges. In the spring I was at a charity dinner benefitting Art of Elysium. As I sat there I kept noticing a raven haired beauty who looked familiar. When we were introduced I realized she starred in one of my favorite junior dramas, Carrie Diaries. We had a wonderful evening together and the rest is history. She is not only gorgeous on the inside but she is a fantastic model and doesn’t even know it. Speaking of, not realizing your own fashion prowess, Extra! tv host and selfproclaimed tomboy Charissa Thompson also graces our new pages. A blonde amazon and a complete goofball, we got along instantly. She wore my new fine jewelry line, Mr. Warburton to the Emmy’s and looked wonderful. We were lucky enough to be the first magazine to shoot her new home in Malibu. Charissa was fun, stunning and most of all, chic. Not only did we bond and have a blast but I also appeared on a recent episode of Extra! for her new cover reveal. She was blown away, to say the least. Lastly, I’ve been OBSESSED with our new cover girl from her days on The OC. Rachel Bilson is the good girl of Hollywood. Flying under the radar but always coming out on top, her career has been steady in a world of ups and downs. From The OC, she had years on Hart Of Dixie and now recently entered the cast of Nashville on CMT. Not only has she been consistent with her career but she has kept her private life private. She is married to Hollywood recluse Hayden Christiansen. Now a mom of one she splits her time between a farm in Canada and Hollywood. The perfect life. Enjoy reading the new LAPALME on vacation with a fabulous glass of rose’. I know I will.

The LGBT Memorial | Berlin A beautiful memorial built in the city center, this was designed by artists, Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset to immortalize the homosexuals persecuted by the Nazis. Its design is intentionally skewed at a slight angle with one small window that gives you a glimpse at couples kissing. With a reel that is on a continual loop, the video will show two men or two women in a beautiful moment of passion, alternating out every two years.

TWO Graffiti Alley | Berlin
Street art has long since been a way for any young artist often overlooked by the art world to express the angst, the fear, the wonderment and unspoken ideals. Graffiti Alley is an alley located in the middle of Hackescher Markt in Berlin off of Rosenthaler Straße and once you enter in you will find random galleries, cafés, curious spaces and MonsterKabinett (a basement filled with monsters crafted out of old machinery). The walls are covered, top to bottom with graffiti. Some have a serious social statement to be made, others are there to invite you to leave reality behind. Grab a bite, take a seat at one of the picnic tables and really take it all in

The Bunker Sammlung-Boros | Berlin
Located in a converted bunker dating back to 1941, this private collection of contemporary art is comprised of artists from 1990 on and happen to be friends of the owner, Christian Boros. All artists with the exception of one are living. With a history that includes fetish clubs and bomb shelters to being known as the banana bunker when harboring Cuban produce in 1957, the stories existing within these walls are something of a wonder and if you’re lucky, art savant, Georgie Pope will be your guide! *PRIVATE TOURS available to the public by appointment only. For every man and woman whoever fell madly in love with the design of a damn good car, Classic Remise is a collection, private and public, of some of the most beautiful automobiles ever created. Housed in an old train turnstile, the architecture of the building only amplifies the divinity of the cars. From designs dating back to original locomotives to the most expensive Cadillac ever made to modern marvels, some of these are for sale so if you’re in the market for something with some genuine street value or just want to give in to your automotive desires, this is where you go!
K20 - Home to the eye catching (literally) work of artist Otis Dix, his collection, “the Evil Eye” spanning 1920-1925 known as his “creative years” find themselves tethered on the walls of the K20 Museum in a way that derives such an extroverted look at the introversion of humanity. Capturing the soul of his subjects through eyes that are as alive as the subjects themselves, he shows the truth of them through intense personality, vivid colors and bold brush strokes contrasted by fine detail. A cross between what we now see as punk rock and morbid transparency, his work is critical to the evolution of art at a rather pivotal time in history. While the museum itself is beautiful and houses Warhol, Pollock and other contemporary and pop art masters, it’s Dix that steals the show.

BELLSAINT
From Tyler, Texas to Los Angeles, California emerging artist BELLSAINT has been making waves with her hypnotic, soulful symphonies. “Outlaw” is a blend of fierce confidence and a heavy pulse production. BELLSAINT’s “Losing My Religion” remix breathes life into summer with deep techno influences complemented by vulnerable melodies. Between songwriting sessions, LA’s Rock ‘n Roll Camp for Girls and binging on Sci-fi films Caroline Brooks sat down and got a little personal with LaPalme Magazine.
Where did BELLSAINT originally come from? Caroline Brooks is beautiful, why not use that? When I was a kid, I was really into Beauty and the Beast. Originally, I wanted it to be Bell, but because Bell is not the easiest thing to find on the internet, we decided to add something to it and I really liked the way Saint sounded so now it’s just Bellsaint. “Give a man a mask and he’ll tell you the truth” – Oscar Wilde. There is something about having a different name that gives you more freedom to say what you truly feel. Caroline Brooks seemed too country, I wanted something along the branding I was envisioning. Where did the inspiration to sing come from? I’ve always been a singer, since I was about 7. I used to lock myself in my room and hide it from my parents because I didn’t feel comfortable singing in front of them. I eventually did a lot of musical theater and music classes/projects in high school and college, but I broke out of my shell when I started writing original music for myself more consistently around 2009. It was about then I decided to make it a profession. Do you write all your own music? Yes. When I first started, I would write by myself and then I started reaching out to artists that I really like and I’ve been doing more collaborating. What is your writing process like? Lyrics come to me more readily than anything else. I have a notes section in my phone where I just jot down ideas that come to me throughout the day, so I have a compilation of weird ideas. When I go to a session I typically start with either a song title, phrase, or a theme. I usually build the chord progressions or the melodies and vibe around the lyrics, especially if I’m writing by myself. It can depend on the process of the other songwriters or producers involved too. Some songs are knocked out in one session and others in several months to finish. Is anyone else in your family musically inclined? My dad plays acoustic guitar and he would write songs and

play them for me and my two sisters. I think he always wanted us to have jam sessions, but I was very private with that for a long time. I didn’t want anybody to really hear me play for a while. So, you’re from Tyler, Texas. How was growing up in such a small town? I appreciate the emphasis there was on hospitality and investing in people: community, family, and friendships. As much as I was grateful for the relationships I had, I was excited to get out to a bigger city to pursue music - from Austin and then to Los Angeles. Do you travel often? I used to. I’ve been a workaholic for the past two years. I can say I’ve been to London! How was that experience? It was amazing. I love London. The food was so good. I would have guacamole or something and you could taste how fresh it was. CHLOE BRIDGES Daytime Divas on VH1 actress Chloé Bridges takes a break from her busy schedule to hang with the Lapalme Magazine team and answer a few questions for our summer issue. Funniest/craziest thing that has happened on set? Tichina Arnold. My answer is a person instead of an incident, but that is because she is the funniest and the source of almost every laugh on set.

Your thoughts on the whole social media entertainment thing and how its changing the industry? Entertainers are pretty much expected to maintain some sort of social media presence now, both because people like being able to have greater access to entertainers in this age over-sharing, and because the people hiring us like knowing we have at least some sort of built-in platform to advertise our shows/movies on. So I feel a certain amount of pressure to post on a fairly regular basis, even though my social media presence wouldn’t be that different if I wasn’t in entertainment. I would probably just post less pictures of myself (like why do we like looking at people’s faces so much?). Social media also makes word of mouth that much more powerful, because everyone has a platform to be their own critic. If people are tweeting that show or movie is good or bad, it can greatly affect how successful that show or movie will be. Known by your friends as the __________ one? And why? Realistic. If you’ve got an issue and you come to me I won’t necessarily tell you want you want to hear, but I will tell you
What is your favorite thing about playing “former child star Kibby Ainsley” on DD? She’s a sexually fluid girl who struggles with sobriety, so her storylines have plenty of ups and downs. And she’s fun to play because she’s basically a party in human form. Whats your summer 2017 style motto? Wear more color and prints! Dress like it’s a vacation even if it’s not! When you are not working you enjoy? Tearing up a brunch, maybe a mimosa or two, then going home to watch Netflix. I also try to go to school at Columbia in New York when I’m not working. Less fun than mimosas but better for my brain. What can we look forward to next? Daytime Divas on Monday nights at 10/9c on VH1! @chloebridges

Self-described “tom-boy” Charissa Thompson balances celebrity, fashion and sports co-hosting EXTRA with Mario Lopez and as the host of Fox SportsNFL Kickoff show. She is also one of the American hosts of the obstacle course competition Ultimate Beastmaster. The Seattle native turned California girl, A sports fan at heart, has shown the impressive versatility to cross over into the entertainment realm of television. We caught up with Charissa at her beautiful Malibu home to snap a few photos and get to know her better.

What is Funniest/craziest thing that has happened on set? Derek teaching me how to model. And how I am immediately into photoshoots (which I normally hate) when I put on Derek’s diamonds! If you want to spoil me rotten? Buy me Derek’s diamonds. Your thoughts on the whole social media entertainment thing and how its changing the industry? I think it’s fantastic. Social media yes can be a blessing and a curse but it gives you a platform to show people who you are and connect with people and exchange ideas on fashion, houses etc that maybe one wouldn’t have had access to Known by your friends as the __________ one? And why? Crazy one. I am always up for doing something, legal or not! And I’m very spontaneous. What’s it like going from hosting sports to hosting a show like Extra? It’s very different obviously but as I always say, people are people and the only difference really is I’m not critiquing athletes fashion! Well, occasionally Russell Westbrook! What have you noticed or learned about yourself being a woman the male-heavy field of entertainment that is sports? I have learned I am a boy, wearing a dress! I’ve always been a tom-boy but I grew up with a dad and older brother that LOVED sports so that’s why I loved it. It’s not unusual for me to be surrounded by dudes, I love my girlfriends, don’t get me wrong but guys are soooooo much easier!!! Favorite female athlete and why? I love Serena Williams, she’s unapologetic, consistent, she’s a total sweetheart too and a boss! What’s your summer 2017 style motto? Malibu chic! When you are not working you enjoy? Running , laying on the beach, traveling, road trips and hanging with my dogs and friends !! What can we look forward to next? It’s always a mystery with me, my hair is representative of if my life.. always changing!!!

HOLLYWOODS GOOD GIRL ALL GROWN UP By Jessica Finn @jessicafinnnyc
Rachel Bilson has that girl next door charm about her that makes people feel at ease which is impressive considering her Hollywood upbringing and the sexy, tough as nails roles she’s typically casted in. Some children enjoy the parks and their local ice cream shops growing up, whereas Rachel hung around on sets and played in the hair and make-up trailers when her father Daniel Bilson was directing or producing, yet she remains as rooted in family values as the next girl next door.

‘It’s kind of funny the way I grew up because my dad’s side of the family was involved in the business and I was exposed to it as a kid. Friday nights we would hang out in the hair and makeup trailer. It’s more what I grew up around. My mom and dad really wanted me to finish school before going into the business myself.’ Doing a short stint at a college in San Diego and acquiring that regular college dorm experience for a year, Rachel, with her parents support, would drop out to pursue her dream of acting. Her career began where many actors find themselves when they start out: with commercials, but soon she would catch the big break that would make her a household name. ‘I started booking commercials and then I got my first real role... it was The O.C. It was a very, very lucky route. It was my first big thing.’ Even though The O.C. would only run for four seasons, it resonated with viewers. Rachel was not supposed to be a series regular, but the reaction from fans, and executive producer Josh Schwartz, was that she was made for the role. She was quickly casted as a series regular. Her roles would move to the big screen after her TV debut in The O.C. ‘I feel like as an actress the roles that have impacted me are the Last Kiss and Jumper.’ Rachel would meet her boyfriend of ten years and father of her daughter Briar Rose, now two years old, on Jumper (2008). ‘I met Hayden [Christensen] during Jumper. That was an amazing experience. It was the most precious time. We were shooting in Italy and inside the Coliseum.’ On location shooting is different than if you’re filming in Los Angeles, Rachel says. ‘The role was fulfilling, but also everything was fulfilling as a life experience, it was one of the best times. I think anytime you’re on location you feel like you’re away at summer camp in a way. You’re more open and receptive to life experiences than you are at home.’ The actress most recently finished a stint on the CMT show Nashville, and while there are rumors she may return for next season, she’s not sure just yet. ‘I was just on for five episodes so I don’t know if I’m returning, but I really enjoyed working there. It was a lot of fun, and I loved the city so much.’ What did she love most about Nashville? ‘The food! Seriously, I was so impressed! Everything from fine dining to hole in the wall places, from Southern cuisine to Michelin Star Italian restaurants. It’s the best food you’ve ever had.’

Rachel has become so immersed in food culture that she not only regularly cooks amazing dishes at home, but she’s also eyeing joining the culinary arena in a professional way. ‘I’m thinking about delving into the culinary world. Its brewing, and I think it would be a lot of fun. Having a kid has changed how I can work and where, so that influences my decisions big time.’ Rachel hints at her culinary endeavors but stops short of saying exactly what she’s looking to get into. ‘The culinary thing is sorta vague right now.’ Whatever she does next, her time with her daughter is the priority for the working mom. ‘Its not about traveling, she’s already a pro on an airplane. She’ll say “It’s time to put up my tray!’’ It’s the actual time that the work takes that affects my choices now.’ The quintessential mom went through a traumatizing time long before she would have her daughter. In 2009 the notorious burglary gang, the Hollywood Bling Ring, hit her home on numerous occasions. ‘They broke into my house five times. They stole designer shoes and handbags. They went into my house so
many times they said they pooped in my bathroom. I was so disturbed. Needless to say I don’t live there anymore.’ While Rachel will likely never forget that feeling of being violated, she does everything to make sure her daughter is as safe as possible. She and Hayden are members of the ‘No Kids Policy’ a celebrity coalition to keep children’s images out of the press without prior consent. ‘I think it’s so important. They don’t have a voice for themselves, you have to be a voice for them. As a parent you try to protect them as much as you can, and these days everything is instant and so out there. There is so much exposure, anyone can take a picture at any moment.’ Rachel sees more children in her future, but right now she’s enjoying her daughter fully. ‘I may have another child, thats still up in the air. I’m having so much fun with the one right now.’ Rachel is again as down to earth one could be with what she really wants out of life, ‘I want to be happy and content. All the life BS that happens doesn’t matter. You want to be happy, you want your kid to be happy and you want everyone in your life to be healthy and happy.’

PRO Photographers Alana Tyler Slutsky & Helena Palazzi share some professional tips for first-time photographers looking to excel in the medium.

When shooting outside, it’s common to have heavy or dark shadows from the sun. You can counter this a few ways: - Use a thin piece of white fabric, such as a sheet or a shower curtain, and position it between your subject and the sun. The fabric will act as DIY diffusion material, making the shadows not as deep. - Have your subject stand next to something white. White reflects light, so a white wall can act as a fill, and bounce light into the shadows of your subject.

It’s often second nature for a subject to raise their hands toward their face when shooting something at close range. Try to avoid having hands in your photos. Hands are very awkward to shoot and often your subject won’t have full awareness of how to properly position their fingers for a better outcome. Avoid having meaty slabs of hand in your image by eliminating them near the face to begin with.

Don’t go overboard with filters on Instagram, Vsco, or any phone editing subject. Add some contrast, maybe lighten the image if it’s dark, play with saturation, etc. But be very wary when laying on the filters. Color speaks volumes and can easily make an amateur image more elevated, and vice versa. Try to enhance the color that is already in your image, rather than adding a bunch of unnatural color on top of it (that means you, Gingham filter fans.) If your heart is set on using a pre-made filter, try lowering it to 50%

While we’re on the topic of editing images, stay away from facetune, or other “skin editing” apps. People are supposed to have pores. You’re doing a disservice to yourself and your subject when using editing softwares to take them away. Just like filters, use theses services in moderation and lower their intensity. Get closer! The famous photojournalist Robert Capa once said “If your photographs aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” He was talking about getting in amongst the action. If you take a step or two closer to your subject and fill the frame with your subject you will see how much better your photo will look without so much wasted space.

Keep it simple! Don’t try to pack too many elements into your image; it will just end up looking messy. If you just include one or two points of interest, your audience won’t be confused at where they should be looking or what they should be looking at.

Change your perspective! Look at how changing your perspective can change the visual language in your image. Crouch down, lie down, step up on a ladder or go even higher to get an areal feel!

You might not know this, but there is a right way and a wrong way to hold a DSLR camera. The correct way is to support the lens by cupping your hand underneath it. This is usually done with the left hand, with your right hand gripping the body of the camera. This helps to prevent camera shake. If you are gripping your camera with your hands on either side of the camera body, there is nothing supporting the lens, and you might end up with blurry photos.

Shade can be your best friend. If there is no way you can make the available light work for your photo, shoot in the shade. You’ll get a nice even exposure with no patchy highlights throughout your shot.

Inside the grand walls of this 17th-century-French-style mansion residing in the historic River Oaks neighborhood of Houston lives the technicolor dream house, Del Monte. Interior designer Miles Redd, who is known for his quirky brand of glamour, was given carte blanche by homeowners Elizabeth and Gary Petersen. Elizabeth first came upon Redd’s work in a very well known decor magazine. Not knowing the designer behind the image was Redd, she saved the page out of the magazine and added it to her portfolio of decor inspiration and potential decorators. Three years later Elizabeth and Gary found the house: “I had different decorators picked out for what type of house I would eventually buy..” Elizabeth recalls, “..and this house required Miles’ paint brush”. She contacted Redd up in New York, and left him a voice mail. A harmonious meeting of the minds between home owner and decorator ensued. Redd captured Elizabeth’s fashionably- eclectic, glamorous and fun-loving personality perfectly as his aesthetic vision is characterized by playful mélanges of high and low, invigorated with whimsical splashes of color and modern gestures.

The first step into Del Monte welcomes the senses with a striking yellow foyer, a true “entry” into the styling one can look forward to throughout the property. “Elizabeth has a very strong and unique sense of style”, says Redd “I think we are a match made in heaven. When first walking the house, she asked me what color I thought to paint the front hall, and I suggested a taxi cab lacquer, and she said that that is exactly what she had in mind. It was that way the whole time”. The yellow foyer is what solidified their relationship “..we walked into the entryway, I already had yellow in my mind” Elizabeth describes, “when Miles said ‘yellow’ as well I immediately entrusted him with the rest of the house. Of course, he did have to hold my hand along the way, the bold color can be a little intimidating! At one point I said ‘Miles, I wasn’t thinking that yellow”, but he said ‘trust me’, and I did. Miles is the professional, his overall vision shows he’s a genius and artist”. Drawing on inspirations ranging from Richard Avedon fashion photographs to Rene Gruau illustrations, Redd has crafted interiors for a wide array of venues. His trademark approach to design has brought to life rooms infused with boldness, fantasy, and sophistication. Entering each room in Del Monte feels like stepping into a different part of the world, an evident characteristic of the house implemented with clear intent by Redd. “I like to think that each room is unique but that it all flows together, but honestly each room called out to me with a voice and a vision”- Redd. Choosing a favorite room is out of the question for Elizabeth as they are all spectacular “…the blue room with the fly on the ceiling gives me the most energy!” Positive energy is an underlying theme in Del Monte’s encompassing decor. “It’s a happy house, my friends like to say it’s the happy house that Elizabeth built”. Family is very important to Elizabeth, mother of two adorable children Margaux and Meyer (age 7). Joy, laughter and a house that works well with children was influential to Elizabeth. “We have young children. I wanted a house that aged well because I’m never touching it. Get handprints on the wall, parties thrown, develop its own patina, like a fine wine. Every year I’m in it the colors get better, the fabrics become richer and softer. The house is timeless, timeless, turned on its head.” -

Katy Schwartz Master Chef Creativity Blooms Into a Profession

“I really don’t feel quite right if I’m not creating.” says chef/ artist Katy Schwartz who left her job managing an air conditioning office to pursue a more creative path. She grew up cooking with her big Southern family but never imagined she’d do it professionally. “Most of my best memories revolve around food and family. I never really considered it as a profession … it was too much fun to be a job!” Coming from a long line of artists in the family, Katy wanted to do something more creative so she responded to an ad organizing the workshop for a production company in Studio City, where they just happened to need a chef. Organically, that began her cooking career and from there, it launched an array of other cooking avenues that would lead her to doing everything she loves. “I started catering productions, doing popups at local bars & cooking for celebrities”. Today Katy is living her dream running the kitchen for Al Campo in Marfa, TX, is a visual artist with private clients and sells her illuminated paper flowers creations Bloomination.
How do you fuel your passions? I fuel my passions by saying yes as much as possible! Even if I have no idea how I am going to do something, I always say yes and then I figure it out. That’s how I’ve accomplished everything I am most proud of. I love challenges and it’s always the most fulfilling to look back at the obstacles I’ve overcome. It really drives me forward and makes me feel like I can conquer anything! JUST SAY YES! I would also say making people happy is a huge driving force for me. With my flowers, painting, cooking - If I can put a smile on your face, or even just make your day a tiny bit better, it really makes my heart happy. That’s what it’s all about! Who inspires you? My daughter, Marley is my biggest inspiration. Thinking of the example I’m setting for her is always on my mind. I want her to be able to look at what I am doing and know that she can truly do & and be anything she wants, even if it seems outrageous, even if everyone is telling her she can’t, I don’t want her to have to conform to what society thinks she should be doing. I want her to always follow her passion and stay true to herself. Making sure I walk that walk for her is my main goal. Favorite projects you have competed to date? One of my all-time faves has to be painting Derek’s bedroom mural of the famous Martinique wall paper plastered all over the Beverly Hills Hotel. It was such a fun and challenging project and one of the boldest statement pieces I’ve done. What can we look forward to next / where can we find your stuff? I recently got involved with Four Larks Theatre Company as a design associate for their latest production, “Hymns”. I made 100 illuminated paper flowers for the production and people started asking me if they could buy them, so I started Bloomination and sell them online now. My main focus right now is running the kitchen for Al Campo in Marfa, TX. I reconnected with an old friend who had recently uprooted his life and moved here to open the wine garden. I came for a 3-day visit, fell in love with the town, and was offered a position running the kitchen. I went home, packed up my life in my car and moved here less than 2 weeks later. Right now we are finalizing the menu and putting the finishing touches on the place. I get to paint a few giant murals on the property, so it’s the best of both worlds for me! It’s a super magical little oasis in the heart of town. We are doing rustic, family style South American inspired food. We have a bodega in the front with local and hand made goods. We just want you to come here and feel completely at home. I feel like we’re accomplishing that. Any other secret talents we need to know about!? I have a chainsaw I’m in love with! I love my power tools and woodworking. I’ve made furniture for restaurants and bars. I would love to get back into that. (If there are ever enough hours in a day!) My next thing is learning to weld! Your dream project? I can honestly say that I have my dream job right now! I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and it’s all because I am willing to take big risks and follow my dreams.
