Un paciente mata a un cirujano ortopédico en una clínica de Collierville Patient Shoots, Kills Orthopedic Surgeon in Collierville Clinic

COLLIERVILLE, TN (LPL/WMC) --- El Departamento de Policía de Collierville identificó al sospechoso del tiroteo del martes, 11 de julio, en la Clínica Campbell. La policía dice que Larry Pickens mató al Dr. Benjamin Mauck, un cirujano ortopédico especializado en cirugías de codo, mano y muñeca, mientras ambos estaban en el consultorio.

Los oficiales encontraron a Pickens en Poplar Avenue, cerca de la entrada de la clínica, con un arma. La policía dice que fue detenido sin problema alguno. Pickens, de 29 años, está acusado de asesinato en primer grado y asalto agravado. Su fianza ha sido fijada en $1,2 millones.

En una conferencia de prensa, el jefe del Departamento de Policía de Collierville, Dale Lane, se refirió al tiroteo de septiembre del 2021 que dejó un cliente de Kroger muerto y otros 13 heridos.

La policía de Collierville ofreció capacitación sobre tiradores activos después de esa tragedia, y Lane dijo que la capacitación ayudó al personal de la Clínica Campbell a lidiar con este evento tan horrible.

Los investigadores no han revelado el motivo del asesinato aún.

COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC) --Collierville Police Department identified the suspect in Tuesday’s shooting at Campbell Clinic.

Police say Larry Pickens shot and killed Dr. Benjamin Mauck, an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in elbow, hand and wrist surgeries, on Tuesday afternoon (July 11) inside an exam room.

Officers found Pickens on Poplar Avenue near the entrance of the clinic with a gun on his person. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.

Pickens, 29, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault. His bond was set at $1.2 million.

Pickens was to be arraigned at Collierville Town Court on Thursday, July 13.

In a press conference, Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane referenced the September 2021 grocery store shooting that left one Kroger customer dead and 13 others injured.

Collierville police offered active shooter training after that tragedy, and Lane said that training helped the Campbell Clinic staff deal with this horrific event.

Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.

Meanwhile, all Campbell Clinic locations will remain closed until further notice.
