Ana María Orozco Reprises Iconic Lead in Amazon Prime’s ‘Ugly Betty’ Sequel

Ana María Orozco y Jorge Enrique Abello hacen su gran regreso a la pantalla juntos en la serie “Betty la fea”, por estrenar en Prime Video. ¡Así es! Los protagonistas de la icónica telenovela colombiana “Yo soy Betty, la fea” unirán fuerzas en esta nueva serie, que se estrenará en Prime Video en más de 240 países en el 2024.

En esta serie podrán conocer la historia de Beatriz Pinzón Solano, mejor conocida como ‘Betty la fea’, y su amado Don Armando (encarnado por Abello) 20 años después de la conclusión de la telenovela original. “Yo soy Betty, la fea” es considerada por Guinness World Records como la telenovela más exitosa en la historia. La producción colombiana, creada por el escritor Fernando Gaitán, fue transmitida en alrededor de 180 países y doblada a 15 idiomas.

¿Qué veremos en la nueva versión?

“Mientras la empoderada Betty sigue casada con su esposo y líder de la compañía, Armando Mendoza, ella reconstruye su relación con su hija adolescente Mila y trata de sobrellevar la crisis de su compañía familiar, preguntándose si hace 20 años escogió el camino que la hizo verdaderamente feliz”, detalla un comunicado de Prime Video.

The original Colombian series is hailed as the most successful telenovela of all time, having sold worldwide and spawning 20 remakes, including an American version called “Ugly Betty” featuring America Ferrera in the lead role that ran from 2006 to 2010.

“This is, I think, an homage to Fernando’s work. I’ve witnessed how this incredible writer’s room has taken his legacy and we’ve tried with immense care and respect to live up to the task. It is a huge challenge, but I think we are in good hands,” Orozco commented.

She added, “Even though Betty was so advanced for its time, there’s many elements that are very much from its time, from our culture, from our idiosyncrasy, issues that now, 20 years later we can address, to have a dialogue with a modern audience. I feel that her essence hasn’t changed but precisely because of this Betty surely poses many questions, She is now more mature, but life for a woman in her 40s is never an easy challenge.”

Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello will reprise their iconic roles in “Yo soy Betty, la fea” in a sequel called “Betty La Fea,” set to debut on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2024.
