NORA VARGAS

On January 10, 2023, Nora Vargas became the first Latina and Immigrant to serve as Chairwoman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in its near 200-year history. Originally from Tijuana, in her third year on the Board of Supervisors, she now represents more than 3.3 million residents from 18 cities and tribal nations and helps administer a 7.3 billion budget that funds health, public safety, and other departments in the County. As a “fronteriza”, she knows the importance of the binational community to the economic, social and cultural power of the region.

In addition to her leadership role at the County of San Diego, she serves as Chair of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) as well as Board Member of the California Air Resources Board. Her rapid ascent in public service is due to her love of her community and her ability to unite stakeholders. She builds bridges to promote transformational change and improve the lives of the community. Recently, in her first State of the County Address, she made history and vowed to continue improving the lives of residents in all corners of San Diego County. She is a long-time resident of Chula Vista and loves her rescue dogs Rocco and Bruno.
