Message from the

General Manager WINTER/SPRING 2018 I hope your holiday preparations are coming along and are stress-free this year! LARPD’s award-winning programs are available to bring in the new year in style for you and your family! With all the ups and downs in life, we’ve learned that these recreation activities and our local parks and trails have a positive effect on your daily life and can help your family begin the new year in a fun and healthy way. LARPD has recently revised our Mission Statement to read: “To provide the people of the Livermore area with outstanding recreation programs and a system of parks, trails, recreation areas and facilities that promote enjoyment, lifelong learning and healthy active lifestyles.” In this issue of “Parks and Play,” we highlight the many activities and places to go to exercise and improve your overall health through LARPD. As our mission says, we promote healthy active lifestyles through the many classes, workshops, programs and activities listed in this guide as well as the many parks, trails and special facilities we provide. Want to shed a few pounds from the many holiday goodies that were too hard to resist? Sign up for a fitness program, take a walk or ride the bike on the many trails we provide in and around Livermore, or take a yoga class to see how many ways you can bend that body! Our new website is coming, our new website is coming! Yes, like most organizations, we were long due for an overhaul of our website and in the coming weeks, we’ll be launching our new faster, brighter, super high-tech website. It will be easy to navigate, photo-rich, and much more functional for ease of use. It will also be the gateway to mobile-friendly communication with the District, and you will have the ability to use your smart phone to navigate our information, share an opinion and sign up for programs easily. Lastly, what have you done for yourself lately? We give so much to family, work, commute and chores every day, I’m wondering what you’ve done for yourself lately? New Year’s Resolution: Do something for me. Sign up for a class, join a walking group, ride the bike on the many trails in the community, visit our open space parks, learn a new skill in a workshop, meet new people by swimming at the pool. In other words, do something that helps you physically, mentally and socially to make this the best year ever! Let LARPD be your guide to a healthy active lifestyle for you and your family!

Photo Policy LARPD reserves the right to use photos taken of visitors while they are visiting LARPD facilities or special events or participants in any department programs. Such photographs may be used by Livermore Area Recreation and Park District for publicity purposes. Holiday Closures The District Offices are closed on: 1/1, 2/15, 2/19, 4/2.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to participate at least one day per month. Children must be able to use the restroom independently.

Pre-K (4yrs by September 1, 2018) When engaged in thoughtful, age appropriate play, children gain confidence for kindergarten, build relationships, problem solve, practice conflict resolution, expand language, understand limits, and spark creativity. Parents/guardians are encouraged to participate at least one day per month. Children must be able to use the restroom independently.

Trevarno Road, which is home to LARPD’s Youth Services office (and a former District headquarters) was originally part of the Coast Manufacturing Supply Company. A major employer in Livermore from 1913 to 1968, the fuse company built and owned all the buildings remaining on Trevarno Road. Ralph E. Merritt, president of the company from 1946 to 1964, was active in the successful campaign to create LARPD 70 years ago and helped with construction of the Trevarno Road building still used today.

We are joining the worldwide campaign of Healthy Parks Healthy People: Bay Area Collaborative (HPHP: Bay Area). We are committed to playing an active role in promoting health and wellness by getting people to come out and play with LARPD within our parks and open space areas. As an advocate of community health, LARPD Open Space has expanded the initiative by offering monthly activities and outings to improve your health and well-being through safe, low-impact physical activities and programs. LARPD Rangers offer a fun and free HPHP program the first Saturday of every month. Visit hphpbayarea.org to view our upcoming programs.
