Board meetings are recorded and broadcast on Cable TV Channel 29 the evening following each Board meeting.
After18 months as the General Manager of Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, I am finally coming to the belief that I understand about 50% of what we actually do for this community. Not that I could ever know to the smallest detail, but what we do in a broad brush for this community is very impressive. Every day we are making memories and changing lives. But there is more to come. Our Foundation is beginning to grow, the newly formed Community Services Division is beginning to make even more of an impact in the community. In addition to all we are currently offering, we are excited to share that we have some new programs coming this summer! I will name a few and leave the looking to you. Look for the Neighborhood Park Ambassador Program, Summer Sprinkler Parties and Movie Nights to name a few. Enjoy looking through the guide and listening for announcements of new and exciting opportunities for recreation.
Activity Guides The LARPD Activity Guide is published three times per year: Summer, Fall and Winter/Spring. Readers can also view the LARPD Activity Guide online at www.larpd.org. Changes that take place after the printed guide is published can be found in the online guide edition. Photo Policy LARPD reserves the right to use photos taken of visitors while they are visiting LARPD facilities or special events or participants in any department programs. Such photographs may be used by Livermore Area Recreation and Park District for publicity purposes. Holiday Closures The District Offices are closed on: 4/13, 5/25, 7/3, 9/7

Little Nalu Swim Lesson Program Welcome to the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District’s Little Nalu Swim Lesson Program. As an authorized provider for the American Red Cross, we have developed and designed a Learn-to-Swim lesson program where each class is tailored to the needs of our program participants. Swimmers progress at a comfortable pace with hands-on instruction from our instructor staff. This program focuses on building skills one step at a time, giving swimmers the opportunity to master one element before moving onto the next. Once a participant passes one of our group swim lesson levels, they will receive a certificate of completion as well as a graduation button.
Parent Tot: 6mo-4yrs (Ratio 1:15) Our parent and child swim lessons are designed to create an enjoyable, nonthreatening environment for infants and toddlers to be comfortable while in and around the water with parent support. An adult is required to accompany each infant or toddler in the water for each swim lesson class. Adults will learn how to teach their infant or toddler important water safety skills, as well as basic swimming skills. This class is held in a group setting up to a total of 15 infants or toddlers.
Preschool Semi Private: 5-7yrs (Ratio 1:2) Our Preschool Semi Private swim lessons are developed and designed around swim participants who are between five (5) and seven (7) years of age. These custom, hands-on swim lessons offer a two (2) to one (1) student to instructor ratio. Classes are scheduled based on age instead of swimming ability to create an aquatic environment that is appropriate for the swim participants. Classes may be held in either pool depending on the participant’s request, pool availability, and swim instructor’s recommendations.
Youth Semi Private: 8-12yrs (Ratio 1:2) Our Youth Semi Private swim lessons are developed and designed around swim participants who are between eight (8) and twelve years of age.
Private Swim Lessons: 3yrs+ (Ratio 1:1) Our private Swim Lessons are developed and designed to be structured around the participant’s swimming ability. Our instructors create a specific swim lesson plan specifically catered to each participant. These custom, hands-on swim lessons have a one (1) to one (1) student to instructor ratio. Classes may be held in either pool depending on the participant’s request, pool availability, and swim instructor’s recommendations.
Level 1: Honu (Sea Turtle) 4-7yrs
(Ratio 1:5) Level 1 is an introduction to basic swimming skills. Participants will be introduced to the aquatic environment, develop independence and water competency, and will learn the following skills: blowing bubbles, holding their breath, retrieving a submerged object, and learning the basic minimum skills needed to be safe in and around water.
el 1: Honu Lev
Level 2: Mūhe’e (Squid) 4-7yrs (Ratio 1:5)
el 2: Mūheʻ e Lev
Level 2 is designed to develop fundamental aquatic skills. Each swimmer will progress towards being an independent swimmer. Some class skills include: independently floating on their front and back, independent front and back glides, front crawl with arms and legs, and retrieving a submerged object.
Level 3: Puhi (Eel) 4-12yrs (Ratio 1:5)

Level 3 focuses on stroke development and introduces new swimming and water safety skills building on what was learned in Level 1 and Level 2. Some class skills include: swimming front crawl for 15 yards, treading water for 30 seconds, and swimming elementary backstroke for 15 years.
Level 4: Koholā Kuapi’o (Hump Back Whale) 4-12yrs (Ratio 1:5) Level 4 focuses on stroke development and increase stroke quality and confidence in the water. Some skills include: swimming front crawl for 25 yards, swimming back crawl for 15 yards, swimming breaststroke for 15 yards, and mastering front and back turns.
