Message from the General Manager SUMMER 2018 This year marks my 15th as your General Manager for LARPD, and it will be my last year as I’ve announced my retirement coming up July 5, 2018. While I’m looking forward to an active retirement, I will be sad to leave the wonderful staff, Board, volunteers and citizens I’ve worked with on a daily basis over the years. Looking back, one of the many joys of serving in this position has been our relationship with the Livermore Stockmen’s Rodeo Association. They’ll be celebrating the Livermore Rodeo’s 100th anniversary this June 9-10, 2018, at the Robertson Park Rodeo Grounds. Information about events, tickets and schedule can be seen at www.livermorerodeo.com. The long tradition and characteristic rugged “stick-to-it-iveness” of this organization’s volunteers have stood the test of time and served this community faithfully all this time. Our partnership with them to operate and maintain the Robertson Park Rodeo grounds is a solid one, with great teamwork and sense of purpose. Our rodeo grounds have grown and improved over these many years, and we have the Association leadership and volunteers to thank, along with the dedicated men and women of the LARPD Parks Division. The result each year is a truly fun and exciting week of events and activities that are focused on our community and the tradition of western rodeo. Take part in all the activities this year and participate in a great American tradition right in your own backyard! We have a number of capital projects that have taken several years in the making, through our funding and planning processes leading up to construction. The Sycamore Grove Regional Trail Renovation Project will be in construction this summer. The bumpy paved trail will be rebuilt, and park users will be rerouted to open parts of the park during construction. After going back out to bid due to over-budget bids received the first go-around, our four park playgrounds will be built at Big Trees Park, May Nissen Park, Pleasure Island Park and the Jane Addams Preschool at Max Baer Park. After saving the 200-year-old valley oak tree at Sunset Park, new play equipment will be installed. Additional park improvements at Sunset are planned for the following year to give the park a nice face-lift. The Bill Payne Sports Park Master Plan process will be completed to chart the course for improvements to this great sports park. Shade structures will be built at Bothwell Neighborhood Park to shade the many playground and bocce ball court users. Lastly, be sure to take advantage of the many camps, classes, swim programs and parks LARPD is providing this summer. Your family benefits greatly by being outdoors, learning something new, meeting new people and friends, getting exercise, and gaining confidence in trying new things you’ve never learned or done before. This is the core value of parks and recreation at its finest. Let’s all take the plunge this summer, and thanks for the last 15 years as your General Manager of LARPD. It’s been a blast!

Tim Barry General Manager
