RAVE FLYERS 2020

Numb - A conceptual visual response to the COVID pandemic. This zine contain’s “world building” information and is solely intended to aid with insight into my project from ideas behind, inspiration and research, mainly relying on imagery to express my personal creative process. To allow people to connect more to the idea and understand the process behind it before the actual realisation and final outcome. Here you will find a collection of found imagery along with original and re-worked, works of others. Reimagined to explore peoples mental health and feelings of Anger, frustration, anxiety and despair. Capturing the restlessness and this seemingly endless state of limbo, we currently find ourselves existing in. All the while remaining hopeful and longing for better days and that sense of euphoria. ‘This isn’t living, this is existing’, Inspired by my love for music and in particular dance and electronic music, my intention is to apply the same feelings but in context to the pandemic. A mismatch of the positive emotions from the music against the negative emotions of the pandemic. The pulsating beat slowly but continuously builds, and you wait patiently for the beat to drop. Anticipation and excitement builds. Your heart rate increases. Beads of sweat start to form and run. The DJ has you right in the palm of their hands, whipping you up into a frenzy as they prolong the waiting. Agonising. Building tension. Eventually that moment comes, and like a climax. A moment of pure ecstasy. A euphoric release that’s overwhelming. It is my aim is to create another form of social commentary using the spirit of political activisim, as seen in the early days of the UK acid rave scene in the early 90’s and place this in conxtext to today ‘when the earth stood still’ a period of loss and mourning our lives before COVID. Using the rave flyer, the kingpin of club promation to help tell the story of 2020.

Michael Satter and Sandra Doeller commissioned work for London’s Oval Space to visually conceptualise the space which features Michael’s typfied practice of clean, simple and minmalist design paired with geomtric shapes. As well as design, Michael has a long-time passion for electronic music and expericed DJ.
This set of twelve designed by Anthony Burrill for Chris Coco’s Balearica night, sharing a simple graphic language, using geometric shapes, pop-inspired abstractions and a simple colour palette.
| Inspired Works |
Inspired by the works of Michael Satter and Sandra Doeller for Oval Space London, I decided to re-imagine their artwork for use of the heavily criticized due to lack of clarity “Tier systems” put into place by the UK Government. My aim was to simplfy the messages that was being communicated as well as creating a visual language to indicate the threat level severity by using a simple colour guage, ranging from green to red.
