Letter from

The Editor

I cannot believe the last FIVE years of Lash Inc have passed so quickly. Having a variety of roles throughout my career, I cannot imagine not doing what I do now. We have recently expanded into the Benelux and Nordic regions, (see our article in this issue), and plan to have other translated versions coming late 2018/early 2019. In June we were handed the keys to our new office, back in my home town of Glasgow. I have missed having an official workspace to go to each day, and if you are ever in Scotland and would like to visit, please feel free to do so. For the last three months I haven’t been well, with an infection and a hospital stay. Any other time I have been ill I've always managed to work, but for almost six weeks I didn’t even look at my laptop. We often focus on work, family and everything we have going on in our life, but health is probably the most important. Without good health you can’t work, earn or look after your family. Luckily my team picked up the slack, but are YOU set up so that you can keep things running if you fall ill? Something to consider might be emergency cover so that your clients can still get their lashes done and you still earn something, or loss of income insurance that will cover serious illnesses where you might be off for longer. Summer was peak season for lash conferences and contests, I only managed to attend the Super Yacht London Conference which I co-organised. The weather was beautiful, we had some amazing speakers and lovely delegates from all over the world, and an online contest, the winners of which are detailed later in this issue. This issue is all about Lash Contests. You will find a wealth of knowledge in the competition articles and also a list of contests that are running this year. As always, should you wish to contribute to the next issue please get in touch. Enjoy this issue and see you in three months' time.

What Causes

Red Eyes?

Have you ever been in the situation where your client opens her eyes after treatment and they are red? It is quite a common occurrence, and can be quite scary! You might panic allergic reaction, a chemical burn and she won’t be anymore,

and think it is an or it could even be or corneal trauma able to have lashes

We really hope not, as these variants are dangerous for our clients and we should avoid them. To prevent red eye we should really know the reasons why they happen.

Chemical Burn It sounds horrific but it happens when the glue fumes sting and burn the client’s eyes. If she tells you during the treatment that her eyes burn, you should find out the reason and eliminate it. ĵĵ

Check if the eye pads are too close to waterline - the eyes might not be closed enough

ĵĵ

Make sure you do not press down on the eye pads with tweezers, as you will open the eyes slightly.

Ask your client to not talk during the application, as she could open her eyes unconsciously

ĵĵ

Wait some minutes after finishing the application before you allow your client to open her eyes.

It is, of course, better to prevent such situations than to have to solve them. Even the smallest amount of fumes for a short time can lead to a chemical burn, and your clients eyes could be red for for 2-4 days.

Corneal Trauma. Injuries to the outer surface of the cornea, called corneal abrasions, may be caused by: ĵĵ

Chemical irritation, primer, cleaner or gel eye patches, especially when they are applied too close to waterline and the gel affect the eyes

Reaction or sensitivity to cosmetics, lash foam

ĵĵ

Scratches or scrapes on the surface of the cornea (called an abrasion), silk eye patches or medical tape (used instead of eye pads) can rub the cornea if they are not applied correctly

If the eye pad is too close to waterline, the eyes feel like they have something in them and they start to water. Injuries that affect only the surface of the cornea normally heal very quickly with treatment. The eye should be back to normal within two days. However, as I have already written, above the best way to solve the problem is to avoid it. One of the common mistakes is incorrectly applied eye pads; usually in this situation the client reacts with tears - contact with primer or cleaner or eye pads can also cause eyes to water – there is no ‘one shape fits all’ with eye pads. If we adjust them in the corners, the middle part slides into the eye. One solution is to cut the pad. (Photos 1 & 2)

However, it might not be adjusted perfectly -the eye pad might scratch the cornea, gel eye pads can swell and cause chemical irritation, or the eye pad can push the upper lid up and eye is not completely closed, causing chemical burn.

This is how I apply my eye pads:

First I adjust the eye pad in the middle part of the eye, leaving 1-2mm distance from the lid, depending upon eye shape. (Photo 3 & 4) Next, I check the closed eye to ensure that I can see approx.1 mm of bottom lashes in the middle part of the eye. My next step is to use medical tape. I overlap the eye pad with medical tape and cover approx. 1 mm of bottom

If I was to experience chemical burn or corneal trauma twice from my lash artist, I would not go back to her, as it means she does not see the problems that occur, nor how to avoid them. She does not seem to care about my health, so I will not care about her income. I will look for a different lash artist who works safely. I would like to help you to work high professionally, take care of your clients' health and have only happy and satisfied clients.

Keeping your social media fresh and crisp is no mean feat. One way which worked well for me is to create art to celebrate the things that you and your followers are passionate about. You could use various themes such as holidays, festivals, social issues, or even just celebrate the season - the possibilities are endless. Colourful, themed art keeps your followers engaged, and can also bring a whole new clientele through your doors – people love pictures. Summer is my favourite time of the year, so sunshine is the theme of this

set. I have used brown and gold lashes to bring out the gold flecks in this client’s eyes. Every June, the LGBT+ community comes together across the world to celebrate Pride Month. This community is near and dear to my heart, so I have created a rainbow set to show my support.

Daniel is a frequently quoted figure in the industry, well known for his safety training and in-depth knowledge of eyelash adhesives and their hazards. Daniel’s life partner is Jane Eriksson, and he started lash training in the spring of 2015. Jane and Daniel now run a successful business together, bringing new students into the exciting world of eyelashes. Daniel is currently representing their own brand: Lash ’n’ Brow Store & Academy, and the soon to be launched ‘Blacklashes.pro’ - created together with a few carefully selected partners, due to launch worldwide this autumn.

Jane Eriksson Entrepreneur, lash trainer and inspirer With her roots in the Make-Up industry, Jane has been in the beauty industry for nearly a decade. She started out on a tiny kitchen table in her home town, and ended up in the biggest exhibitions and competitions in the world, having organised Swedish Masters for three years in a row. Jane strives to make the lash world a little better piece by piece, always putting her heart, knowledge and soul into everything she does.

Moving from that small kitchen table outside Helsingborg, Sweden, she now owns one of biggest salons and education centre in the area, teaching everything from Classic lashes to advanced Volume and Micro blading. Jane is always looking for better products, and currently represents her own brand ”Lash ’n’ Brow Store & Academy” as well as Elleebana, Belmacil and Everlasting Brows in Sweden, along with the soon to be launched brand ”Blacklashes.pro”. Jane judges in many of the most wellknown lash competitions, including, The Lash Games, The German Masters, The Danish Masters and The Lash World Cup in Amsterdam. “When I first met Jane in London, I realised that she was a strong and independent woman whom I really wanted to work with one day. Love Them or Hate Them?

Eyepatches - by Hanna Putjato

The application of eyepatches can sometimes be tricky. Whether you are an experienced lash technician or a complete beginner, you should always follow these simple rules: ĵĵ

Use protein remover pads to wipe the eye area from any oils to ensure patches stick to the skin well. Eyepatches will not stick to oily skin properly.

ĵĵ

Use one pair of eyepatches per client and dispose them after the use

ĵĵ

Apply the eyepatches 1-2 mm below the waterline and cover the bottom lashes

ĵĵ

Adjust the eyepatches after your client has closed her eyes and secure the placement of patches with micropore tape if needed

ĵĵ

If any baby lashes pop out, cover them with micropore tape

But even if you follow all eyepatch application rules, you can still struggle sometimes. Problem 1: Client’s bottom lashes are so strong and springy that they are popping out of the eyepatches Solution: place the eyepatches under the bottom Lashes and apply micropore tape on the top - all natural lashes will be “sandwiched” between the tape and eyepatches and will stay in place until the end of the treatment. Please make sure you stick the micropore tape to the back of the hand first, so it becomes less sticky. Otherwise you might find difficult to remove the tape after the treatment.

Problem 2: You have placed the eyepatches and they now look very comfortable for you and you are ready to start the lash application. Shortly after you start the treatment, your clients eyes start watering. Solution: Before you start the treatment, lift the top eyelid up and check that the eyepatches are not touching your client’s eyes or the waterline. If eyepatches are touching the eyeball or the waterline, then it may irritate your client’s eyes, causing them to water and resulting with redness at the end of the treatment. Problem 3: The gel always plumps out and sticks to your client’s eyes Solution: This is the after effect of the eyepatches applied too close your client’s eyes - it will scratch the eye inside. Make sure you check that the eyepatches are not touching the eyeballs of your client by lifting up the eyelid before starting the application. Problem 4: You can’t see the lashes in the outer corner as they are bent under the eyepatches Solution: In order to get the lashes out from underneath the eyepatch, simply peel the patches up and move them down without pulling the eyelid down. You can also use the help of tweezers to gently pull the lashes out from under the eyepatch.

Isabella completed a professional eyelash extension course with Kelly Storer the owner of Enchanted Spa in Joondalup. Kelly customised the course around Isabella’s requirements, so she could progress at a pace her body could cope with, so instead of two full days they spread the course over four half days. Prior to contacting Enchanted Spa, Isabella had tried contacting many other course operators who were not flexible with their course options. Excited by her new-found passion for lash artistry, Bella went on to complete the advanced Russian Volume Eyelash Extensions course with welcomed modified training options. Not only did Bella discover her passion and artistic flair for eyelash extensions, but she knew she had chosen the right pathway in life. Bella adores the individual attention to detail she can offer her clients and in return they reward her in repeat business.

I’ve just had my first brush with the International Lash Industry as this year’s host for The Lash Events UK Conference 2018. Similar to the ‘debutante’ culture across many societies where the ball gown takes centre stage, I too felt that my attire should make a ‘lashing’ impact, and those of you in attendance may have noticed I donned my ‘millennial’ style kilt. I did so for many reasons, but in the main to celebrate our International Editor Louise Tierney’s Scottish Roots in this truly global industry. I first met Louise a few years ago at our former alma mater, Glasgow Caledonian University, where we were both invited to speak about our career journey. I hail from a presenter/journalist background with the BBC, and it was the first time I had come across the Lash Industry – bar the time I bought some strip lashes for Halloween as I tried to pull off a Bollywood look! What sparked my interest into this ‘alien’ industry is how Louise grew her business and brand from Glasgow, my home city. I remember Louise talking passionately about the ideas that came

I energised this word. In our career path we are not guaranteed instant success and we will all fail or have challenges at some stage. Some of these challenges take place away from our office and work; from health issues, to relationships, love and bereavement.

to her whilst sitting on a train. This led her acting upon her ideas right there and then via her laptop. She energised me away from the ‘media bubble’ which us luvvies so often tend to vacuum ourselves in.

It is imperative to allow ourselves time, space and balance. The point I was making to the students in attendance was to embrace such times in one’s career and use it as fuel, be it a rejection letter or email, and I took copies of my own rejection letters and emails to show the students.

I too spoke about my career path, across Radio and Television and simply offered an honest and brutal account of my career to date. I coupled this with some open and honest sub narratives from life’s journey, and I candidly spoke about my success, what inspired me, and the ‘F’ word.

After meeting Louise at this event, we met up for coffee (and cake!) in Glasgow and she suggested I could host one of her events in the future, explaining the foundations behind the UK Lash Conference and what it would entail.

I was still somewhat clueless at this stage, but signed up immediately, it’s the extrovert within me.


Broadcasting conveys the importance of networking at such events and conferences. Being a natural talker and extrovert I find networking and breaking the ice easy. I appreciate for others this may not be the case; of course I get nervous, but I use my platform as a Host/Presenter (and my Kilt!) to shield such nerves and turn it on its head, making it work for me. If Louise and I hadn’t networked, the chances are I would never have had the opportunity to work in the lash industry. In my experience nobody is that important that they won’t speak to you or give you some time at such an event, regardless of what industry you are in. Never be afraid to approach industry leaders, mentors or a brand/company you are trying to connect with. If I hadn’t employed a ‘gallus’ (to use a good Glaswegian word) attitude I would be working behind the scenes in the media as opposed to being on air. Another reason I wore my Kilt at UK Lash Events 2018 was it simply draws an audience’s attention and people engage with me over it. So wear something that you feel confident in to express your own unique energy and style. If you are a naturally shy person and find the networking side somewhat challenging, drop an email to the person or contact you are trying to connect with beforehand. A simple introduction and request a quick five minutes of their time at the conference. People are generally nice (well most of the time!) and respond, sometimes not immediately but eventually. Networking is essential as a business tool but is doesn’t stop there; you can make some genuine and lasting

friendships. I’m lucky to say that Louise and I became colleagues as result of our business networking; not only do we engage on ideas around the lash industry (as I take up the mantle of Men’s Style Editor for Lash Inc. International), we are also firm friends. Not quite sure how our Editor in Chief might edit that last line I have just written!

Onto the actual UK Lash Events 2018 itself, I write this a few weeks on from the conference in May. I’m raising a cheeky smile to myself as I’m still buzzing from Super Yacht! From preproduction between Glasgow and London, meeting UK Lash Events members for the first time, hosting and engaging with such an amazing array of talented delegates and guest speakers, forging genuine relationships, having very little sleep and sharing a hotel room with our lead designer Andi (who I had only met on the Friday!) to the pace and energy of it all! I found it accelerated me professionally and personally. I’ve learnt a lot from Louise so far about the industry and the learning curve continues. I took a lot away from Guest Speaker talks and engaging with them alongside delegates at the conference. There are many sub narratives and

levels in this industry, and this has only further fuelled my interest to engage some more. With open invites from new friends from Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, USA et al and vice versa including a round or two of Golf on Scotland’s lush courses with Borboleta’s lovely Kimber and Craig planned, my lash journey is set to continue… Just like any method actor worth their salt, I embraced the conference with a Lash Lift. I’ve never been shy to embrace fashion and beauty culture that’s perhaps perceived as more ‘metro’ than ‘hetero’ and I truly felt a million dollars post treatment! I loved the craft, technique and artistry that goes into such a treatment. The look it gave my eyes was uplifting, I felt it accentuated my natural lines and the actual spread of my lashes gave me a lot of confidence. This, coupled with borrowing Louise’s mascara in London, meant I was all set for hosting in London!

I now look forward to my next experience – lash extensions for men!

Lash Inc. Senior Journalist The Lash Artist Box I’ve been in the beauty industry for the past fifteen years, and I like to think I’ve learned a thing or two. I recognise how competitive it can be and how we must stay focused on our goals. Our industry is full of competition. We have competitors amongst local businesses who seem to be constantly engaged in the art of one-up man ship. Our suppliers are competing against each other for our attention with bigger, better, bolder products. You might run a monthly competition within your salon amongst employees, for who can sell the most. This month’s magazine is focused on competitions, so we are going to look at your biggest competition: YOU. Winning requires awareness, discipline, and a willingness to experiment and take risks.

When you look at your business output, are you happy with the results, or do you have room for improvement? Do you think you are limiting yourself? If you want to succeed in any business, you have to give it 100%. Competing with others in a friendly manner is a great way to build on your strengths and I implore you to step out of your comfort zone and sign up for a competition. The other competitors will push you to achieve, but the only person you should try to better is the person you were yesterday.

Why not turn your biggest challenge into a personal competition where winner takes all? After analysing my own business, I decided to work on regular posting to my social media platforms and scheduling the time in my day to do so. I enrolled in an online course, watched tutorials, read books, and took notes on how to make the most of my social media presence. If you find yourself overwhelmed by managing your social media, there are companies who can do this for you, such as Hootsuite, Buffer and Social Oomph. They will post across all the popular platforms and you can include photos of your work, your lash space, your knowledge of the industry, funny stories; the sky is the limit, so


have fun with it. If you aren’t a little different from your competition, you’re in trouble. We’ve all heard the old saying, “Time is money!” This certainly rings true in the lash industry - the quicker we work, the more money we make as we can book more clients in. Is YOUR speed where it needs to be to produce quality work in a certain amount of time? It’s a good idea to work against yourself by timing your lash sets, using the timer on your phone. If you could reduce the time it takes for a full set of lashes by 10% over the course of a week or a month, what would that look like for you? Think about what you could do with that extra time. What are your retail goals? Retail should be a must, not an option. Retail means more money for you, and can increase your credibility amongst your clients. Research has found that if a guest purchases two retail products from you, there is 60% chance they will return. If that same client purchases just one product, there is a 30% chance she will return, however, if you didn’t talk to her about the product, there is just a 10% chance she will return. The biggest issue people have that prevents them winning is lack of belief in themselves. A belief is a choice, and what you think about you bring about – if you were to replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will begin to expect and achieve positive outcomes. You are the competition, you set the standard, so let go of your fears, believe in yourself, and go for it! Those who win are those who think they can.

Lash Technician, Lash Artist,

Lash Master!

Director, KG Professional This is an interesting subject which raises a mixture of opinions. What do you call yourself? What do you claim to be? Let’s get this right though as no one gives us this title. It is what we choose to call ourselves or what others in the industry kindly put forward. These are my opinions and views on this subject:

Lash Technicians We are all lash technicians, whether you have completed a one-day course, been doing them for years or you are an award-winning technician. This is what we are! After completing a semipermanent eyelash course, this is the job title you receive.

Lash Artists I believe, and this is just my opinion, that a lash artist is the title given after you have completed your Russian volume course. When students train with me in Russian volume, I always say to them that I’m turning a lash technician into a lash artist, because I am teaching them such an advanced technique. I’m teaching them how to style the eye, how to use the lashes to protect the natural lash.

When attending a training course always ensure you take on board what the educator is telling you and put it into action when you go live on clients. Don’t just do one eyelash course and think you are done with all your training. Go on many courses and choose courses conducted by lash artists who inspire you. Travel if you must, don’t just choose the first and nearest course you find. On each course you attend you will learn new techniques and methods. Even if it’s only one or two “lightbulb moments”, you will be able to improve your sets each time! I highly recommend training at least once a year with someone new or even a refresher course with the company you use. Techniques and products are changing all the time, so it’s very important to keep fresh and current. This will also place you above your competition.

Lash Master Now this is a huge one, so what is a lash master? Personally, I feel someone should have this title once they have been lashing for several years and have participated in numerous training courses. All their work is exceptional every time and they have won several awards. Someone that knows the lash industry inside out and whatever question is thrown at them they can answer without any struggle. Someone you look up to in the industry and is a role model who inspires you. I also feel this is a great title for lash artists who are all of the above but have chosen to step back and now either teach, judge competitions, or advance the industry overall. Even though that person might not lash anymore they still have that skill forever their title should always stay with them. I would love to hear your views on this topic and what you feel distinguishes lash technicians, lash artists, and lash masters.

I was introduced to eyelash extensions in my early twenties when I was a model for Bikini Village. Their lash artist sat me down on a chair, tilted my head back and started lashing me. The result was absolutely stunning, and I was immediately hooked - how wonderful, lashes looking amazing at all times without any mascara. I had a very lucrative career in food and beverage at the time but lashes always stayed in the back of my mind. I finally decided to get certified, just out of curiosity - who would have known where this would have lead me. I absolutely fell in love with lashing, it is my passion. As a perfectionist, I wanted to know everything there was to know about lashes, so I travelled worldwide to attend master classes and conferences in order to offer my clients the best. I was lashing twelve hours a day, seven days a week. I dedicated every hour of the day to mastering my craft. Testing and experimenting on clients, I played with curls, thicknesses, lengths, textures and colours. My wish was to enhance my client’s natural beauty, without making them look too obvious. I invented my own style when it came to classic, and later on transferred it to Hybrid and Volume. In every single set I made, I wanted it to be the most beautiful in the world, to make my clients look amazing.

I developed my own techniques and lash designs, and soon enough people were asking me to train them and to provide them with lash products.

Dare to Be Different! Play around; There are so many styles and different ways to define your work. Most technicians stick to the basics, but you don’t have to follow the trends and do what everybody else is doing in order to be successful.

A few years later, I founded World Beauty University. We now offer services and training in classic lashes, volume lashes, lash lifts, micro blading, threading, sugar wax, scalp micro pigmentation, nails and teeth whitening.

It’s important to personalise your work in order to stand out. Don’t be scared to try different things to find out what you like, what looks good, and what you’re good at.

It has been an amazing journey that took me to Russia, Rome, London, Prague, Paris, Hong Kong, China, Tokyo, Australia, Mexico and many beautiful states in the USA. Every place I went, I made great friends and business opportunities.

Wanting to be like others is far from being the best thing to do. In order to stand out, you need to have your own style, don’t be afraid to be different. If you’re not quite sure how to personalise your style, it would be my pleasure to help.

Everyone reaches a point in their life where they can either give up or keep fighting. I am a fighter! Throughout the years I have been battled addiction, ADHD, and other complex health issues which all require that I take several different medications. The most rattling experience of my life is when I felt like I was having a heart attack. I called 911 and was rushed to the hospital with my blood pressure

reading 220/137. It turned out that what I was experiencing was an anxiety attack. Anxiety is scary! I had tingling in my left arm for about a month, starting from the Vegas Trade show in June 2017. Fast forward to the day I called 911, it literally felt like my left breast was being squeezed so hard that it was going to burst - a huge wake up call. At the same time, I moved my business 2,400 miles away, with visions of starting fresh. I didn’t understand how hard it would be to trust the business would continue to grow with the same quality and efficiency as when I was in sole charge. This was change that I wasn’t prepared for. As a result of this, my body started breaking down with stress and anxiety.


Immediately, I developed psoriasis and eczema, hives and rashes appeared up and down the sides of my whole upper torso, and I experienced hot flashes that made me think I must be going through early menopause, one doctor diagnosed this as thyroid dysfunction.

Once I stepped into my strengths, the shift started to happen. I realised that I have the power within myself to change. I changed my mindset from negative to positive and connected with my happy, loving soul, and not only did I start finding bigger and better solutions for my business but I also found it within my personal health.

I couldn’t understand what was happening because just a few months ago, I was finally feeling the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever felt. I thought I had most of it worked out, after all, I was moving to sunny Southern California.

I surrendered to a healthier way of life, starting small, and changed my entire diet. I cut out processed sugars and foods and eliminated the bottle of wine I drank each night.

What I didn’t anticipate, however, was my nervous system responding to the stress from this sudden change, and I had to go back to the drawing board.

Once I had stopped the self-judgement and graced myself with love, then my world opened up in ways beyond my dreams.

This is where my strengths came in - I flourish in finding solutions to problems and am good at testing my limits. I research and experiment to the very last, and this is how I developed my own line. This really works in anything that you do, not just within the Lash Industry.

I started to manifest my visualisations and started to think about what was truly important.

I always research and seek the best quality, unfortunately you have to go through quite a bit of quantity to figure it out where the best quality to be found.

I have spent so much of my life in the beauty industry, developing innovative products, ideas and solutions. We are all broken in some way. I want to make an impact in this industry and help people step into their overall wellness. I want to see them step in their whole beauty, which only comes from within. I have a fantastic group of women already onboard and looking to grow this tribe who are on same frequency and speak the same wellness language. In my own search for answers and help, I now do believe I have found my true happiness to life and success. The answer is balance. To be the best version of ourselves we need to take a step back, reflect, and work on healing from within. At the last Hollywood Lash Conference that year, I observed so many amazing women I personally knew, and thought of those amazing women I know, and went on to notice how many of us are not taking care of ourselves, we are running ourselves ragged, putting ourselves last and just what is that doing? We are running on empty; topping up just to get by........if we did this to a car it would stiffen and rust and eventually give up. We need to fuel our bodies and minds with the best quality ingredients we can. We need to work smarter instead of harder. We need mindful balance in our life and we can have it all. Listen to your own body and mind. Turn off the music, the television, your phone and take some time for you. See what happens… These past few years I have seen people in my life diagnosed with cancer and other fatal diseases. Life is way too short and if you don’t take time to enjoy it now, when are you ever going to? Try it… I dare you!

Sometimes, the frustration can be so big that people even think of giving up because they think they will never be able to achieve that result. The eyelash extension technique is an art and we should know how to make the most of it to express our own unique style. How do I turn a prospect into a loyal, life-long client? Communication, excellent customer service and taking an interest in your client “CET” up for lashes. This is a helpful method which will open communication with your client and provide some insight into their life. C = Client profile/release/consultation E = Examine T= Take pictures and Talk

Consultation This form asks certain questions in order to determine if she has any sensitivity issues. On the back, there is a section to write down her design, and expectations. The form explains the lash growth cycle, and aftercare, such as keeping lashes clean. In addition, you may need an extra box to record the patch test. This form is a guideline to follow and can be changed to accommodate your practice. It is informative to the client, allowing them to feel safe and comfortable knowing that you have their best interest in mind.

If you incorporate pictures into your consultation, your client is able to see what we see, and feel safe and comfortable in the knowledge you have their best interest at heart.

Take Photos and Talk

Previous treatments

Take a picture of your client from the following angles: Eyes closed, eyes open, side view and birds eye view. I have found that using a white gel pad while taking your pictures helps reveal gaps and cowlicks in the lash line, and makes it easier to measure her eyelashes.

This section allows you to get to know your client, and will give you insight on her present and past experience. If a client has permanent liner you should wait until she has healed. If she has had previous lash extensions, or lash lift, find out about her experience. What did they like or dislike? Did they notice any sensitivity? What product was used, and do they know their previous lash map?

Micro needling, Micro dermabrasion, Peels, Botox, and Dysport: Lash extensions can cause sensitivity if applied too soon after these treatments – wait at least two weeks. It is recommended your client does NOT lie flat immediately after injections, nor apply pressure on the area.


Accutane: Wait at least six months after the completion of the medication, as skin is highly sensitive and will easily react, plus the eyes can remain very dry and irritated.

the lashes and along the eyelid margins. Mixed blepharitis is the combination of both anterior and posterior, and if left untreated, it could result in dry eye.

Laser: Depending on the type of laser used, make sure skin is totally healed as it will be more fragile and sensitive

If we suspect blepharitis, we must advise the client to visit her GP, as we are not medically trained and should not diagnose.

Eye surgery: Eyes must be fully healed, and it is good practice to obtain GP consent, adhesive vapour can affect the healing process.

Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis: Clients suffering from any of these are more prone to sensitivity, and adhesive vapours could cause flair up.

Regular eye test: Recommend your client has a simple eye test if she has not had one in the last three years.

Thyroid conditions: Lashes tend to shed more frequently, which means time between infills will be shorter.

Conditions

Diabetes: Diabetics take longer to heal, may have thinner skin and are likely to be more sensitive.

Sensitive, Watery, or Itchy eyes: This could mean they are not a good candidate for eyelash extensions; examine the lids to see if there is any irritation. Seasonal allergies: They could demonstrate the symptoms above and the adhesive may cause further symptoms, as the immune system is already on high alert. Animal allergies: Some clients are sensitive to animals, and even have pets - this can cause more sensitivity to their eyes. Clients who are prone to sinus infections can be prone to conjunctivitis - make your client aware that blowing their nose and touching their skin can cause infection, it is best not to work on someone with a sinus infection. Light sensitivity: This could be an underlining problem when securing bottom lashes down. Start off with clients’ eyes closed, slightly but gently open her eye and place the pad on top of her bottom eyelashes. Do not switch your Glamcor on until her eyes are closed. Dr y eye: Clients usually use prescription eye drops that tend to leave a crust on their lashes, and can affect retention. Blepharitis: There are several types; anterior blepharitis is where the base of the eyelashes become inf lamed, posterior blepharitis affects the Meibomian gland behind the base of

Claustrophobia: I have found having them hold something in their hand during the service allows them to remain calm, and it is best to work on one eye at a time. Pregnancy: Is it safe to lash a pregnant woman? You decide after this explanation. When a woman is pregnant, the baby will take all they need from the mother; even if she is taking prenatal vitamins, lash damage can occur. When she is further along in her pregnancy it is dangerous to lie flat for more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time, as the weight of the uterus compresses the aorta and can risk harming the foetus. It is important for her to stay hydrated, and increased pressure on the ladder will also leave her needing to visit the bathroom more often. Discuss this with your client, and let her look forward to having lashes on as soon as she gives birth. It will be a chance for her to be pampered and look more rested and relaxed.

Skins and Eyes: Skin Type can affect lash adhesion and adhesive. Normal: The skin is normal with no problems. Dry: Skin will be thinner and will have a tendency to be dryer when shampooing lashes. Oily: Skin needs to be cleansed properly and a buildup of oil should be removed from

the lashes or the lash extensions will not stay on. Sensitive: It is advisable to use sensitive adhesive and keep a close eye on the skin during service, in case of developing any sensitivity. Products containing glycolic acid/ retinol: These products migrate and thin out the skin making the eye area more sensitive, which means clients are more likely to react to the adhesive. Growth Serums: Tends to increase blood f low causing redness on the skin and means her eyes maybe more sensitive. Ask your client how her eyes are responding to the serum. Previous product reactions: If someone has reacted, they will always react – even sensitive adhesive contains cyanoacrylate. Contact lenses: Lenses should always be removed before treatment, and it is a good idea to provide solution and a lens case. Eye drops: Why are they using eye drops? They may have a prescription, and being treated for glaucoma or even dry eye. Eye drops can affect retention. Medications: Medication can have a negative effect on the integrity of eyelashes, leading to a swifter loss. In addition, it is important to remember that diet and stress may also play a factor in the health and longevity of lash extensions.

Pay Attention Change occurs on a daily basis. It is important that you carry out a consultation each time they return for treatment. Has anything changed in their daily routine, or have there been any changes in medication? While cleansing, have a good look at your client’s skin, take regular pictures, and create a file under their name. If you combine this with a brief note documenting any adjustments or changes made at their appointment, you will set yourself up for success!

How to Prepare for Your First

Lash Inc. Senior Journalist Novalash Congratulations, you have qualified in classic and volume lash services. You practice and apply lashes every day and feel you have a great working knowledge.

What next? This is a common question from past students - after many months of practice, perfecting skills, patience and confidence building, what are the next steps in the lash journey?

Competitions! Taking the leap from lashing in your own environment, to lashing in a large competition, can be daunting and frightening. However, I recommend all

eager lash artists take this very step if they want to challenge their talent and abilities. Lashing behind a closed door doesn’t provide you with feedback or the ability to test your skills. When a lash artist is ready to improve their timing, their results, and compare against other talents, then a competition is calling their name.

Get Involved So, you have decided to take the plunge – how do you actually take the step towards competing for a title? Two important steps – research competitions and practice your skills for competing. Most lash competitions have a novice or beginner category – requiring 18 months or less experience of classic or volume lashing. You might be surprised that there are lash competitions in your own country and travelling abroad is not necessary, plus there are reputable online contests all around the world.


Next step is to select the competition for you, determine the level of experience you need, and decided whether you are going for the volume or classic title.

Practice Why would you need to practice if you already lash all day, every day? Lashing in a competition is very different from lashing clients on a daily basis. You might be surprised at the requirements – were you aware that points are deducted for incorrect lash selection and incomplete sets, amongst other strict practices. Once you memorise the rules and point structure of your category it’s time to ask your friends and family to lend you their eyes for practice. Rules are very strict, for example, some competitions actually state only certain extensions must be used. Others state every single natural lash must be bonded for a top score, plus the correct extension must be placed on the correct natural lash. These are all application skills to practice. Finally, the time for a full set will be stated in the rules so make sure you can achieve a full set in the allotted time. If there are any other rules that stand out to you as different, practice them over and over.

Prepare You are usually asked to bring a few items to the competition. Select a model you already know, with good, easy lashes and perform a few sets before the competition so you know their lash line, and can finesse your shape and style.

Make sure your lash tool kit is well stocked and bring a backup set of tools in case you drop your favourites. Don’t forget plenty of gel pads, stickers, tape, brushes, nano-mister, digital humidity monitor and any other accessories you might need so you can achieve top marks. Try and reduce stress by being over-prepared. Most adhesives perform differently in different working conditions. I cannot stress this tip highly enough – work with your adhesive in different humidity and temperature levels. The competition space might be warmer than you normally work with, and humidity levels might be higher or lower than you are familiar with. These variables will have a huge impact on the adhesive and the final results on which you will be judged. Do not assume that the competition space will have a certain humidity and temperature level just because it is located in the same country or area you live – air conditioning, heating and other factors can affect this. Take the time to practice working in different conditions so you are able to work with the adhesive in the space the competition will be held.

The Results Be proud that you have taken yourself out of your comfort zone and tried your hands at a lash competition. If you didn’t do as well as expected ask for feedback from the judges or your scorecard. Most competitions allow you to see where you missed the points. Take in all the different parts of the day so when your next competition comes around you are better prepared for the challenge. Be proud of how far you’ve come- being a skilled lash artist isn’t easy. Remember the first day of your beginner lash course and look at your results now! Lashing is a journey and a long-term plan. Take the time to invest in yourself and push yourself forward, and you will see what you are truly capable of achieving.

Being a lash educator is becoming a highly sought-after career in our industry. Sure, it looks glamorous; traveling all over the world, building a name for yourself, and doing what you love. What about the behind the scenes that no one tells us about? I have been lucky enough to sit down with two well respected educators in our industry to understand their viewpoints on the pros and cons of being a lash educator.

Hilaree Brand of My Brand Lashes In 2001, I was introduced to eyelash extensions while attending Dallas Roberts Academy. Upon graduation, I was completely in love with lashes and never looked back. From there, my loyal clientele grew. I wanted to be the best I could be for them so I attended Mandalyn Academy where I got my Masters in Aesthetics in 2008. I married my best friend and high school sweetheart whose love and support helped me start My Brand Lashes. In 2009, I set myself apart as a leader in the lash industry by becoming a licensed Cosmetology and Aesthetics instructor. Since we only have one set of eyes, I believe that all lash clients deserve only the best techniques and products. This led me to make business connections with suppliers of some of the best products on the market. Once products matched my skills, I realized that I was only one person and that I was ready to share my knowledge with the beauty industry. What are misconceptions you see about being an educator? That it’s easy, no au contraire! Teaching and learning are a beautiful dance. It must be done together, teacher and student. I could teach the best class in the world but if my student isn’t willing to learn and practice what they have been taught

or try something new, I can’t be effective. I keep working with my student until I have explained something so that they understand. Like the quote, “we don’t listen to understand, we listen to reply.” Tell me about a time things did not work out and you had no control over that situation: I shipped all products/kits/supplies to our training in Michigan and when we arrived the class was set up but there were no kits. We contacted the post office who said the kits ended up on a different route by accident. They refused to deliver until days after the training, so I tracked down the mailman who had the kits.Thanks to my determination, we had them before the day was done. What was the most valuable lesson you have learned as educator? I wish I could narrow it down to just one. Teaching has offered the lesson of learning about the lash industry at a core level. Why we do what we do, and why it is wise to learn why we do what we do.. Connecting with men and women all over the world has allowed me to experience the beauty industry at a multicultural level which is an invaluable experience. What would you say has contributed to your overall success? My ability to look at where I have failed and how to improve myself to ensure I don’t make the same mistake again. I also love feedback and want to know how I can do it better.

What advice would you give to someone whose goal it is to be a master educator? Learn how to teach what you know. Learn to to be versatile in how you teach a concept or technique. Plenty of people can create amazing lashes and win competitions, but if you cannot explain how you did it, it’s only going to hurt the person who is trying to learn from you. What advice would your future self tell your past self? Just to enjoy. There is a time and place for everything and just because something hasn’t happened as quickly as you wanted it to happen doesn’t mean that something awesome isn’t right around the corner.

I have created a well known and respected global brand, won academy of the year 2018 and travel all over the world to judge, speak in front of thousands and coach others to grow their businesses and become better lash artists. All with the help of social media marketing, following a few simple ground rules and working hard. You can never get anywhere unless you work on it, every single day. Because I have studied this intensely over the last few years I have watched most businesses fail and only some succeed. So let me share. The main reason why businesses fail on social media: procrastination and NO implementation. Today’s social media world. It seems like such a complicated and big task, and guess what? This is why most people don’t even get started. They get overwhelmed and then they simply get scared, don’t do it and procrastinate. If you are on social media today and don't post multiple times per day on your business page, you are leaving $$$ on the table. This is a simple fact. The numbers don’t lie.

Facebook's algorithm currently loves to see many posts that add a lot of value to the community. No, I am not talking about sales post. I am talking about good old-fashioned value, post and stories that really interest their likers. This is something I tell my business students almost everyday: “You gotta get more social on Social Media or you will NOT grow today’s businesses, into tomorrow’s businesses.” And this is exactly what happened to me when I first started. It all felt like a big wall and I had to slowly start to climb it. Social Media marketing can be a little bit daunting at first. Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Instagram... the sea of outlets is endless. So how on earth should we know where we to start? Start with ONE and maybe add a second channel if you are a fast learner. In the beauty and lash world, I would recommend you start with Facebook

and Instagram. It's visual and engaging. It’s very active and reactive. Get to k ow your followers and show them who you are. People don’t buy from businesses. They buy from people. (Unless you are Apple or Nike) Facebook owns Instagram and Instagram is an excellent outlet to showcase your work online and reach those who are looking for a Lash Artist in their area. Use local hashtags to increase your reach. It is also amazing for those who are trainers and want to show off their work and skills, take their followers behind the scenes and even sell their programs. With Facebook, you can advertise and reach even more people that are your ideal customer. Live Videos are also super cheap at the moment and get incredible organic reach online. Once you master the art of Instagram and Facebook, move onto Pinterest and YouTube. They do extremely well on Google. Lash Tribe has over 400,000 monthly view on Pinterest alone and over 3.2 million Video views since I opened up the channel. Google owns YouTube, so having a few “ How to...” Videos there and even going Live will really up your SEO (Search engine optimisation) further up in google search. If you feel stuck and uninspired to post a lot on social media, outsource and find someone who can do it for you. Social media is growing at a rapid rate at the moment, so try and stay on the ball, otherwise you will be overlooked in the sea of lash artists and trainers.

Over the last twelve years my wife and I have run Integrity Lash, we’ve realised that one of the most important decisions is whom to hire and allow to join our team. You could say we are ‘battle hardened’ by our experiences. We’ve seen employees do all sorts of unexpected things; phones and iPads stolen, complete with client contact info, cash from the safe and tips absconded with. Yes, you do feel shock and disbelief when these things happen. I used to blame these employees and just think they were “bad apples”, but after much contemplation, I’ve come to the realisation that I’m the reason these employees didn’t work out. I looked in the mirror, accepted the fact that I was an inexperienced leader, and determined it was one of two things that happened: 1.

They joined our team with high hopes to help us build a company but somewhere along the line, I let them down and broke trust with them which resulted in them in becoming bitter. They were a bad match with the company from the start, and I was not discerning enough to see they did not really fit our culture. They were not bad people, they just didn’t fit in with the way we wanted to run our company and because I was desperate for the help, I earnestly hoped they’d adapt and make it work.

Hiring a square peg is not the square peg’s fault but hoping they’ll adapt to the round hole never works and is unfair. As we’ve bumped and bruised along the way, we’ve developed a recruitment system which has really improved our chances of finding a good match for both us and for the potential employee. I know we are not the only salon who struggle to find the right employees, I hear this concern all the time from other salon owners. My hope is, by sharing our system in this article it will help others to ‘hire smarter’.

I think too many salon owners today just do one interview, look at some photos of the potential employee’s work, and take them on with high hopes it will work out. Looking back at the early days of our salon, we joke now that all you needed was a heartbeat, a friendly face and we’d hire you. We realised there must be a better process way to you give yourself, as well as the potential employee, a better chance of finding the right match.

Don’t be desperate - be patient. You might be working crazy hours and really need some help, but when you recruit out of desperation, you will not be discerning and may allow the wrong recruit into your company. Just hiring whoever looks “good enough” often does not pay off well. Be patient and really verify who you are bringing on board. This person who you plan to bring into your inner circle can become either your greatest ally or the very undoing of your business. Think of recruitment as you might think about getting married; you wouldn’t make a life-time commitment to marry the best of three people you met only once a bar. You’d make sure you get to know a potential partner and try to discern their character before you make a lifelong covenant. It’s better to NOT hire a potential employee who is a poor fit and lose business than to hire an employee who is a bad fit and lose your business (it almost happened to us).

Here is our Integrity Lash recruitment process. It is designed to tease apart a candidate’s motivations, to reveal character, and to determine if she will be successful at our salon. (For simplicity, I will be using female pronouns throughout this article, but I do understand that both men and women can be great candidates for any salon).

16 Questions When I first receive an email or a submission through a job site, I email the candidate 16 questions - I want to see if the candidate replies (most do not). This prevents me from chasing candidates who aren’t that interested. The questions can be modified to reveal what is most important to you as a business owner. I ask about experience, and if she does not have enough (we look for one year) we encourage her to keep learning and come back to us once she has the relevant amount. There are a couple of technical questions, plus inevitable ones about our company. I’m looking to avoid someone simply looking for a J.O.B. I want someone who wants to contribute and build a career with us - it reveals a limited level of engagement if she has not carried out even a basic google search.

Social Media If the person replies to my email, I immediately look at her social media, having included this as part of the 16 questions. Usually, she will just list the social media showing her lash work, so I try to find her personal pages, as this tends to reveal who she really is. If I find her complaining about life or work or photos of her being irresponsible, I will politely pass on the candidate.


Phone Interview This is a designed to be a little more in-depth, but the goal is to keep it under 30 minutes. I’m trying to gauge how much the candidate knows about us. Has she researched our Instagram, read our responses to reviews? Has she scoured our website, and does she know our stated goals and mission, has she proven to herself that our salon shares her values? During the call, I’m trying to gauge how she is motivated. What drives her? Is she solely motivated by money, or is she after flexibility, or a career path? I want to make sure her driver matches what we can offer. I’m also assessing her communication skills. Is she able to speak clearly, do her answers make sense, and is she able to hold a conversation? Is it laborious or difficult to talk to her? I use the phone call to present “hoops” that she may or may not want to jump through. I talk about our DNA: We have two shifts which might constitute ‘odd’ hours. We are a team-based salon not a commission salon, we require a two-year commitment and only hire full time. These can be deterrents and unattractive to those who want something different, and I want to identify this conflict as soon as possible. There was a day when I tried to convince people of the merits of working with us, but I have found that it is better to find candidates who already believe in our message and way of working than to try and convert non-believers.

One on One Interview with Manager This is our first go-deep, where I ask a lot of questions to see if I like the candidate. It’s the first time I’m seeing this person and I’m assessing her appearance and observing how she engages with front desk staff. Does she look professional? I want to know if she can keep eye contact with me through the whole interview. During this meeting, I will ask her essentially the same question in different ways; I want to see if she is consistent with her answers. If she is not, it means she could be making things up. I’m not saying that any one of these things should be a deal breaker, but it’s in your best interest to know as much as possible about any red flags. I also want to see if asking similar questions

frustrates the candidate and how she handles it. If I have time, I will take her outside the salon environment, such as a coffee bar - a more casual setting will help her to let down her guard and reveal more of her character. Engineering a way to see how she interacts and treat others while under a little stress (the interview) can be constructive. My goal during this interview is to find out if this person is humble, hungry and smart (people-smart not booksmart). If you want to improve your recruitment process I recommend reading “The Ideal Team Player” by Patrick Lencioni. He builds a great case for how these three traits are the most important ones you need to seek in an employee. It’s a quick read, and it will completely change your hiring process.

Audition with the Lead Trainer If I feel the candidate is solid with the qualities we are looking for, we will bring her back for an audition with our lead trainer. We ask the candidate to bring a model and come to our salon with the tools and products she is most comfortable using. We only hire people with a minimum of one year of experience, so if she tells me here she doesn’t have any tools, I know that she isn’t very serious with her career which helps us to eliminate some of the

unqualified. It’s also a red flag if she can’t produce a model. Once she comes in for the audition, we tell her that we don’t need to see her do a full set. We just want to see her command of the tweezers and how she handles the lashes. Our trainer will let her do lashes alone for 5-10 minutes so she can get comfortable. No matter the experience, every candidate shakes a bit, and we reassure her it’s ok and the nerves will calm. The trainer will observe the potential candidate for a bit once the jitters have passed. Can she isolate efficiently with one hand? Can she pick up an extension quickly? Is she able to use both tweezers in tandem or only separately? We’re not assessing technique because we’re going to train her in our way, but we’re looking for muscle control and the ability to perform the basic components of lashing. After another 10 minutes or so, our lead stylist will try to teach the candidate some of our lashing technique. If the person is resistant to the feedback, we know she is not humble and not a good fit for our company. If she takes the feedback with a good attitude, then this is another sign to us that she could be a good fit. We always retrain our staff when we hire them, this audition gives us an idea of how long it will take us to train the new employee.

Hi everyone, and welcome to the 'Competition Issue' of Lash Inc. The word 'competition' conjures a lot of different meanings, depending to whom, and in what context, you say it. In the Lash Industry it implies two principal meanings; a contest where you compete against other lash artists and a set of judging criteria to demonstrate your skill; and the other lash artists who operate businesses in your area who your clients (and potential clients) may go to instead of coming to you. I want to speak brief ly about both meanings, and hopefully demonstrate a few truths and a few myths about both as the way in which you think about "competition" can have a marked effect on your success, both in contests, and in attracting clients.

Contests The lash world loves a contest. They happen all year long, all over the world, and if you want to see the extraordinary skills present in the industry then you are sure to see it at a competition. Coming up very soon we have Lash Battle in Glasgow, and The Lash Games in London. Both are sure to bring out the "mad skillz" of Lash Artists from every corner of the globe. In my experience, a lot of people (lash artists included, they are people after all!) shy away from contests when they don't think they can match the performance on the top rung of the ladder. This is a huge mistake and they are missing out on a great opportunity to grow and learn. The artists who win the top prizes at these events don't just

And, just like in contests, when you run a business you have to take the hits when they come. You win by working hard, not taking the shortcuts, and always putting your best foot forward. When you market your business, always highlight your strengths, show your best work, keep doing everything you can to show that you are the one to choose. You might not be able to force people to book an appointment with you, but if you speak proudly, show yourself to be respectful and talented, then you can influence the way that those clients look at lash artists overall. Then your stand-out traits work in your favour and against your competition.

They compete for years; sometimes winning, sometimes losing; until their names are well known, and their skills are perfectly honed. Then they work even harder to take the coveted trophies. Don't hold back waiting until you think you're perfect, build your skills up slowly. Get into the beginner categories, lose a few contests, watch the work of the winners and learn how to improve.

In essence you are teaching people what to look for in a Lash Artist. So that when those things are absent in your competitors, they are noticed. Never put bad work out in the world, whether it is in an online contest, a live lashing event, or an evening client after a hard day. Always work your best, realise that someone is always judging you, and that you can win if you just keep grabbing the next rung up the ladder, and climbing with all your might!

You will get there. I believe in you. Business In a lot of ways, competition in business is the same as competition at contests.

Keep growing by always learning.

You don't get to choose who your competition are. You are the person who decides who is the best. You win some, and you lose some.

This is the third instalment in our series on winning awards for your business. Part 1 appeared in Issue 18, and part 2 appeared in Issue 18.

Some award bodies may ask for customer nominations as part of your entry. It may be just a small part of the application but it’s still very important as the little things can mean a lot to the awards organisers.

Do you know customers, suppliers and partners who have said something wonderful about your business or are willing to commit something in writing for your entry? Customer testimonials should be easy to get as customers love to say something nice about something they love. It’s probably not something they will get asked to do so very often!

Get this right and it can make the world of difference to your dreams of winning. If you are producing your own, here is an example of a free online version of a testimonial form creator:

Once you have the form sorted you will need to let your customers know about it. It’s best to try and keep things simple. For example you can have nomination details at your point of sale or reception desk. Post a link on your blog, Facebook page and send to any newsletter subscribers you may have. Nomination details and a link should also be added to your website. Do you have a mailing list already? If not it’s a good idea to create one so you can keep your customers up-to-date on everything that’s happening in your business, including your award entries. A good website for list building is:

SugarLash PRO was in full flight, taking to the skies in early May, right through mid-June. With a lot of growth and even more jet lag — we were honoured to be in attendance for some of the industry’s most stellar events.

NALA Awards First stop — Toronto — for the NALA Awards Gala and Conference. It united some of the Lash Industry’s top artists, educators, and innovators for a fun weekend of everything lashes. Friday’s informal social gathering of leading industry professionals, and Saturday’s formal awards ceremony saw any preconceived notions of competition go to the wayside. We laughed, toasted, and celebrated each other in all of our unique contributions. The rest of the weekend added a casual and informative aspect with the trade show hall highlighting product, and educational seminars with keynote speakers. Sugarlash PRO was awarded at NALA in the category of Business Curriculum for the Lashpro Accelerator™ Course, and CEO/Founder, Courtney Buhler presented “The Power of Instagram”, and the impact it has in advertising for

Super Yacht Lash Conference Next up was the Super Yacht Lash Conference London, in the UK — held on the stunning Sunborn Yacht Hotel. You’d never know we landed on the heels of the Royal Wedding. When the lash industry comes together - we ARE the royalty! The support and encouragement amongst peers and colleagues is astounding. The conference saw some really amazing presentations from Miranda Tarpey, Petr Lhotský, Michelle Meredith-Rath, Kimber Jaynes, Courtney Buhler, and Loreta Jasilionyte.

LA lash virginities taken — 7! Before the next major event, Sugarlash PRO™ took High Lash Society to the salons of L.A. California. We had the pleasure of working with a fabulous group of influencers and taught them about safe lash extensions — which they had no idea even existed! Can you imagine?

Lash Artist Wars Before heading home, we had one more elite event to take in. Trinidad held its first ever Lash Artist Wars and Sugarlash PRO™ was thrilled to be on the judging panel, alongside Hilaree Brand of My Brand Lashes, and prominent Makeup Artist, William Tommy. There were four waves of Classic Lash Artists, one wave of Volume, and one Fantasy round. Artists and judges had a blast throughout the competition, then took to floating on a yacht in Turtle Bay; noshing on Trinidadian delicacies and celebrating a lively competition!
