New organization earns national recognition for WKU The 15 person delegation from Western Kentucky University was awarded "Chapter of the Year" at the 2nd National College Youth in Government Assembly held at Black Mountain, North Carolina. This conference helps college students interested in government network on a national level as well as learn more about the proceedings and processes of the national government. Out of 34 colleges in attendance, including Georgetown and University of Pennsylvania, “Chapter of the Year� was given to Western Kentucky due to the respect and level of professionalism displayed at the conference. WKU student delegates received numerous awards. Freshmen KJ Hall and Merideth Cundiff won Best Judicial Team, freshman Zach Jones had his "NIH Funding Act" signed into law and forwarded to his Congressional Representative in Congress. In addition, freshman Jody Dahmer and KJ Hall were elected as National Director of Development and National Director for Alumni Relations respectively. At the conference, WKU students represented themselves in two of the three branches of the federal government as Congressional Representatives, Senators, and attorneys in the Supreme Court. The delegates from WKU came from over 13 different majors and represented every college at the university. Many are Honors Scholars. An Organizational Aid grant from the Student Government Association made the trip to the conference possible. As the conference is only in its second year, WKU has the spotlight as the conference grows larger and more renowned in the years to come.
