s we get acclimated to our expanded clubhouse and look outwards toward the surge in usage of the club, we also take a hard look internally. The team we have here is phenomenal. They give their all every day and try to exceed your expectations. This isn’t by chance. I learned a long time ago that in order to succeed you need to surround yourself with the best. When we have a position we are trying to fill, skill set is only a small portion of what we look at. More importantly is the ability to assimilate into our culture.

Our Core Values define our beliefs and they are the cornerstone of why our team is so incredible. They all believe in the same things. Building relationships, striving for excellence,

communicating a lot and often, improving every day, being passionate and most importantly feeling a sense of empowerment. Empowerment is so important because they have a sense of ownership. They know the things they do make a difference and from the responses I get from the membership, they’re doing it! This is our time to round out our staff and the team is growing. However, it’s growing smartly. We identify the candidates that will thrive in this environment and teach them the skills they need. So if you see a new face around the club, make sure to reach out and introduce yourself and they will be the ones making sure your experience stays as great as it’s been. I look forward to seeing you at the club!

chool’s out for the summer! As the kids are filled with joy to end their school year, parents are always left with figuring out what to do to keep their kids occupied. While most of you planned this well in advance, some of you are still looking for camp availability. You are in luck! Our Junior Tennis Camp offers full and half day programs for ages 7 and older and you can select the full week, Monday thru Friday or choose the days you need. The tennis camp provides a combination of tennis and swim and includes lunch for the full day campers. For more information or to register, please contact Carol, Director of Tennis at cmaclennan@ laurelcreek.org. Membership Membership at LCCC continues to flourish and I can’t thank you enough for being so welcoming. Every time I tour a new family around the club, many of you will go out of your way to introduce yourself and share what you love about LCCC. I truly mean when I say that we have the best members around! Dress Code While we are more casual than most country clubs, we still

have guidelines on what is and what is not appropriate when you are at LCCC. Whether you are dining at the club or attending a member event, we ask that you familiarize yourself with our dress code policy. Collared shirts for men and boys, tucked in at all time unless it’s a style meant to be worn out. Shorts, other than cargo are appropriate as well as jeans that do not have tears or holes. Tee shirts with large logos covering the front or back of any kind are not permitted and hooded sweatshirts are a no-no. With the pool now open seven days a week, swimsuits (men or women) and bathing suit cover ups are not allowed in the main clubhouse including the outdoor dining area. Please bring a change of clothes if you plan to head over to the club for lunch or dinner after a day of swim and sun. To give you a better understanding of what to wear while at the club, we will have pictures of what is and isn’t permitted posted throughout the clubhouse. We greatly appreciate your continued support of your club and contributing the overall atmosphere.

SURVEY SAYS!

Here’s what our members had to say about our 70’s Party: “Loved it. Having a theme like this really made the party even better” “Be clear in the promotional flyer about what type of music will be performed and/or what times will dance music be provided. 2. Offer music for a wider variety of people or have a band and a DJ play at the same time.” “The staff at Laurel Creek put on an excellent party. Costumes were great! Nice diversity with the band/DJ!” “Wish the band was a disco band. Love the eagles but you can’t dance to them. When come to 70’s party want to dance, and although there was the DJ, the club’s money would have been better spent on a 70’s band” “You Really Outdid Yourselves! Not a thing was missing. The entertainment was Incredible and Non-stop!!”

s we transition into warmer weather, the Golf events start accelerating as the Men’s Member-Guest takes center stage. With 11 flights and 132 players, the 2-day event will surely be exciting as teams battle it out to see who will take home the title. Defending Champions Doug Rodio & Rob Martine are back to see if they can repeat. Earlier in May the annual Stableford event was contested with Craig White scoring 33 points to capture the Net division while Joe Russo won the gross division with 24 points. President and Palmer Cup matches continue to move to second rounds.

When practicing please follow the hitting pattern rules that are displayed on the sign at the range. If you need anything please give us a call or e-mail us for any questions or concerns. Look forward to seeing everyone at the club!

ummer is here and the pool is ready to go. We will be open 7 days a week starting Father’s Day weekend, plus we’ve extended our pool hours one hour later. Plan on making the pool a point of destination for you, your family and guests, with fantastic food, drinks and service how can you go wrong. I hope to see you there. Another friendly reminder about the Dress Code Policy. Management is seeing a lot of t-shirts attempting to enter the dining room(s). Members and their guests must wear a collared shirt when dining at the club. Please make your guests aware of our policy and let’s have a great summer. If you have any questions regarding the dress code do not hesitate to contact management. Thank you. The F&B staff would like to get to know each one of you and your family. The advantage of being a member is the special attention that we can provide by getting to know your allergies, your likes and dislikes and special menu requests. We are always looking for ways to improve our service, one way is by management touching tables and receiving your immediate feedback to help us improve upon service and food. Please feel free at any time to contact me via email jgeller@laurelcreek.org or 856-2347663 ext. 108. The F&B management staff is here to assist. The F&B staff is working on Sunday Fun Night, creating ideas, looking for a safe spot to entertain the kiddies. We will keep you posted!

ON THE COURSE JOHN SLADE

I

f you haven’t heard the acronym “CANI” before, it stands for constant and never-ending improvement--or as we like to say, raising the bar. With the goal of always seeking to better every phase of the golf course operation, we already have a Word document labeled “2020 Planning Notes” in progress. This contains a list of changes we’d like to make in the future, dealing with everything from staffing, to fertilization and fungicide timing. In early fall we will review the ideas and goals in this document, and include many of them in our business plan for the upcoming year.

A good example of this led to the way in which we are now mowing the approach on #11. In the past, we would often see wear from the triplex mowers trying to negotiate this narrow area. One of our full time employees, Jeff Stewart, suggested that we start hand mowing this approach when we cut collars.

Often times the improvements we make from year to year are minor in nature, and typically won’t be noticed by a golfer. However, these small tweaks can contribute to the overall quality of the product we are able to present to our members each day.

As Jeff is typically the person tasked with mowing collars, this idea actually increased his workload, and added to the 15 mile days he often puts in for us. However, like many of the staff, Jeff has the ability to look beyond his own job, and focus on the big picture of what we are trying to accomplish. We are truly fortunate to have such engaged team members, and look forward to continually raising the bar!

What’s truly rewarding is when a suggested operational change comes from the front line staff.

When we looked at the cost (a few extra minutes of mowing) versus the benefit (improved turf condition) this change made complete sense. A simple, yet great idea--but that’s not the best part of this story.
