Gabriel Kelley LIVE in Concert Saturday, March 7th • 6-7:30pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION RTEC
Gabriel Kelley is an award-winning, Grammy nominated, Americana musician, artist, and song writer based in Nashville, TN. Born and raised in the southern rural farming and artist centered community of Athens, Georgia; hard work and passion were instilled into him through his years traveling and touring the globe. Kelley’s 2016 release of “Lighter Shades of Blue” gained critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic ocean; giving momentum to months of touring and supporting such artists as Chris Stapleton, Steve Earle, Gregg Allman, Old Crow Medicine Show, Chris Robinson, and many more. After more than 300 shows in the last 3 years and appearances on internationally recognized stages such as Red Rocks & Dalhalla in Sweden, Kelley will be bringing his songs to our library.
Spring Diabetes Self-Management March 3rd, 10th, and 17th • 4:30-7:30pm Location: Community Room REGISTRATION APPRECIATED RTEC
Registered dietitian and licensed diabetes educator, Lynnett Renner, from the Laurel County Health Department will lead a three-part series. Session 1: Session one will cover the following topics: diabetes, what it is, high and low blood sugar, and sick days. Session 2: Session two will cover the following topics: monitoring and management, reducing risks, being prepared/traveling, and coping.
Session 3: Session three will cover the following topics: physical activity, nutrition, and medications. Registration includes all 3 classes; attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. Participants who attend all three sessions will be eligible for a drawing to receive a $50 grocery gift card.
Battling Parkinson’s with Olympic Boxing Monday, March 9th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Exercise is one way to manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, but which type is best? A current trend is Olympic boxing which is a full body workout where non-combat boxing exercises are performed. Join certified Olympic boxing coach Jerry Loughran, as he discusses the benefits of this style of boxing and the methods he uses with his participants to assist in relieving the effects of Parkinson’s disease. A demonstration of techniques will be given.
AARP Driver Safety
Tuesday, March 10th • 9am-1pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED If you’re 50 or older, you’re eligible to attend this special AARP Driver Safety course, taught by Jim Meding. You’ll learn how to adjust your driving for age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. You’ll also learn some defensive driving techniques and how medications affect your driving. No tests are involved, and you might even get a discount on your car insurance. The course fee for AARP members is $15 and $20 for non-members. The fee may be paid to the instructor at the beginning of class. The fee covers the cost of the materials used. Outside auditorium doors will open at 8:45am.

Frontier LIVE in Concert
Friday, March 13th • 6-7:30pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Frontier is a harmony-driven Kentucky band featuring brothers Ethan and Andrew Worley, their cousin Caleb Caudill, and Jon Watts. With deep roots in the classic sounds of the 70’s, the band has been said to “breathe a new nostalgic life into today’s soundscape.” The band loves what they do, and this shines through in their energetic performances, unforgettable harmonies, and skilled musicianship. Audiences can always expect upbeat, honest, feel-good songs, and a rockin’ good show.

Bite Size Learning is an educational, free lunch series brought to you by CHI Saint Joseph Health. March is Colorectal Awareness Month and Dr. Don Morring, from CHI Saint Joseph London, will be here to update us on current risk factors, screening techniques, treatment methods, and much more.

Join us as we welcome back to the stage, Abby the Spoon Lady, along with her friends, The Tater Boys! This fun-filled evening of toe-tapping folk music, with America’s most beloved professional spoon player, will light up the room with Abby’s fun and positive personality. On this special night we’ll be hosting two shows! Abby has been a professional street performer for over a decade, studying American folk percussion, music, and folklore while traveling the United States by foot and rail. Now an internationally known street performer and YouTube sensation, Abby plays all across the country at festivals, five star venues, and right where it all began, on the sidewalk. We couldn’t be more excited to have her back at our library.

Join us for the 2020 Quilt Show co-sponsored by Saint Joseph London Auxiliary and the Laurel County Public Library. The following events will be taking place during the day:
This month we’ll be discussing the Long Island serial killer, known as LISK, who is believed to have murdered 10-16 people over a period of nearly 20 years. The bodies were left in areas on the South Shore of Long Island, New York.

Homeschool History Fair
Monday, March 23rd • 9am-12pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Love history? The Homeschool History Fair is the place for you! There will be four grade categories. K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th -12th grade. There will be three winners within each category, with the overall winner taking home the BIG TROPHY! The overall winner could come from any age category, so be sure to impress the judges! Judging will begin at 10am. Participants must be present for judging. The awards ceremony will begin at 12pm. A Homeschool History Fair entry form can be downloaded from the library’s website, or can be picked up in the children’s department. Entry forms can be turned in the morning of the Homeschool History Fair.

Calling all dads, grandfathers, and uncles! Spend an evening with your little one reading some exciting books, singing some fun songs, and getting creative with a hands-on activity. While you’re here take some time to work a puzzle and visit our block table. Be sure to check out some books for the perfect bedtime story!
This storytime is geared for families with children ages 3-8 years old on the autism spectrum, or who may have other sensory needs. We’ll have stories, props, puzzles, toys, and other tactile objects to explore different ways to learn and have fun.

Enjoy this charming production of the Grimm Brothers’ famous tale brought to life by Frisch Marionettes Company. Two children are threatened by and eventually outwit an evil witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery. You will see how the story ends happily for everyone except the witch! Every aspect of a Frisch Marionette production is designed, handcrafted, created, and recorded in their own workshops. Each and every puppet is hand carved, every costume is sewn and custom tailored for for each character.

Women Working For Change March - April
Women Working for Change documents the contributions that Kentucky women have made to the cultural, intellectual, medical and political life in Kentucky from post-Civil War years to the middle of the 20th century. It draws from the best examples of photographs from statewide repositories to illustrate the activities of women in these four areas. The exhibit includes often-neglected minority groups and presents both urban and rural women. It highlights the achievements of well-known women, but also includes the contributions of less famous women.
