Around the Library Next time you visit the library, take a walk back to the Kentucky Room to see the beautiful quilt that was graciously donated by library patrons, Teressa Gibbs and Debra Steelman. The quilt was made as a symbol of their appreciation to those who served in the military and as an honor to their service and sacrifice. The library’s oral history project, Our Veterans, Their Stories, which debuted at the library this past Veterans Day was their inspiration to make the quilt. It’s their hope that many people will be able to see the quilt and celebrate our local veterans for their patriotism, love of country, willingness to serve, and sacrifice for the common good.
Available for Checkout You can now bring home a DVD of the latest release in our oral history project, Our Veterans, Their Stories. The goal of the project is to collect and preserve stories from local veterans for current and future generations. Our hope is to share the human impact by focusing on the individuals, rather than the specific battles or wars they were involved in. We want you to see their faces, hear their stories, and gain knowledge from their experiences. The DVDs contain the full interviews from all 8 veterans, as well as the compilation video. Transcriptions of the full interviews can be found on our Online Digital Archive along with photographs and other documents provided to us by our veterans. Videos are also available to view online via our website at: laurellibrary.org/resources/our-veterans-their-stories/
