Folded Book Holiday Candles

Then join in on the fun during one of the holiday workshops! Participants will re-purpose a gently used book into a candle, which will be a perfect addition to most any room in your home.
Henley Holiday Concert
Tuesday, December 10th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the season and join us for a holiday concert, offering a variety of genres with light harmonies. Henley is a group of local women from multiple generations and varied backgrounds, brought together by a love of music.

Free Paper Shredding at the Library Wednesday, December 11th • 9am-4pm Location: Library Lobby NO REGISTRATION
Are you concerned about identity theft and unauthorized disclosure of private information? The library has the answer to your dilemma. Locked containers from Secure Stream will be on site for collecting confidential documents. Full containers will be picked up and taken to the local Secure Stream site for shredding and recycling. Limit of 3-4 medium-size boxes per person.
Beeswax Candle Workshop
Friday, December 13th • 1-2pm OR 4-5pm Location: Auditorium Lobby REGISTRATION REQUIRED Join local crafter Donna Rains for a fun afternoon making beeswax candles just in time for Christmas. Participants will make a pair of candles for themselves and another pair to give away to someone special. The candles will contain no artificial colorants or fragrances. For ages 18 and older.
Oh What Fun! Holiday Party for Special Adult Patrons Monday, December 16th • 1-2pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Enjoy a holiday party filled with music, a movie, and a special guest. There will be a picture-perfect opportunity. Feel free to dress in your favorite holiday colors. Participants’ care takers need to be present. For ages 16 and older.
Matinee Movie: The Christmas Card
Wednesday, December 18th • 1:30-3:30pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION APPRECIATED This month the library is featuring the holiday classic movie The Christmas Card. When an American soldier visits the town where a goodwill Christmas card sent to him came from, sparks begin to fly and changes start happening in the lives of everyone involved. This heartwarming movie is perfect to celebrate the holiday season.

Treats and Trivia
Wednesday, December 18th • 1-1:30pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED Boost your holiday spirit by participating in our first Treats and Trivia activity. Enjoy some tasty treats while answering trivia about holiday movies both past and present. There will be chances to win door prizes!!! If you have time, stay for the special holiday film that will start at 1:30pm and have additional chances to win a door prize.
The book we’ll be reading this month is Storm Front by Richard Castle. From Tokyo, to Bonn, to London, high-level bankers are being tortured and murdered. The killer has been described as a psychopath with an eye patch. That means Gregor Volkov, Derrick Storm’s old nemesis, has returned. The CIA calls on Storm to track him down, figure out who he’s working for and why. With the help of a beautiful and mysterious foreign agent, Storm discovers a plot that could destroy the global economy and the time he has to stop it is running out.
The library will be closed December 19th until 1pm for staff training. Holiday Hours: We’ll be closed on December 24th and 25th in observance of Christmas. We’ll also be closed at 5pm on December 31st and January 1st in observance of New Years.
OUTREACH SERVICES
As the temperature drops it makes it more difficult for some patrons to come to the library. Do you know someone with mobility or transportation issues who would enjoy a library delivery or bookmobile stop? Send them our way! After a simple application process, we’ll work them into our routes as soon as possible and they’ll enjoy getting library materials every two weeks from our bookmobile staff. 1968: A Folsom Redemption December 11th - January 7th
Celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of a landmark event, 1968: A Folsom Redemption is a collection of photographs and memories of two journalists lucky enough to be among a handful of eyewitnesses to the historic Johnny Cash concerts at Folsom Prison. This candid and personal photography exhibition covers a critical juncture in the career of Johnny Cash, one of the twentieth century’s most beloved performers.
TECHNOLOGY & CAREER WORKSHOPS The Laurel County Public Library offers a wide range of technology classes to help you develop and improve the skills that are so important in the digital age. With different topics being taught each month, a knowledgeable staff, and hands-on learning, there’s sure to be something we can help you with. Enjoy drinks and snacks while you watch this month’s film. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all nonmagical beings, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. This film is rated PG-13.

The Abominable Snowman is on the loose and wrecking Santa’s village in the North Pole! FINE FREE MONTH PLUS all fines have been waived!* We know how stressful things can get around the holidays and we don’t want our patrons to have to worry about being late on their returns. So we’re making the entire month fine free. Nothing returned late in December will recieve a late fee! In addition to our fine free month, we wanted to also help out everyone who has fallen behind on their accounts but still need access to our services. Effective December 1st, 2019 all current overdue* fines have been removed from all library cards! *Replacement costs of lost/damaged items not included in fine waiver. Fines charged after 1/1/20 are not included in this fine waiver.
