Friends of the Laurel County Public Library Vintage Books and Collectibles Sale Saturday, February 2nd • 10am-2pm (Snow Date: Saturday, February 9th) Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION
Browse vintage books dating back to the 1800s during the Friends of the LCPL Vintage Books and Collectibles Sale. Collectible items such as signed books, a limited number of Nascar diecast cars, first edition books, pop-up books, and more will be offered at the sale. Friends of the LCPL and the LCPL are unable to authenticate items. All prices and sales are final. All proceeds benefit Friends of the LCPL. Payment options: Cash/Check (Credit Cards not accepted)

AARP Tax-Aide®

Through the use of trained volunteers, the AARP Tax-Aide program offers free tax preparation assistance to taxpayers with low to moderate income, with special attention given to those 60 and older.

Then join in on the fun at the “Pamper Me Pretty” event where your mood will be lifted as students from Somerset Community College School of Cosmetology provide hand waxing and hand and arm massages free of charge. Matinee Movie: Driving Miss Daisy
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the library’s first adult event in honor of the holiday. The evening will feature David Hall, “The Saxman,” who will provide live music. A variety of “sweet treats” and beverages will be provided. Space will be available for dancing.
This month’s PG-rated Oscar winning drama, starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, explores the complex relationship between an old Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur in the American South during the 1950s.

Murder by the Book

Detectives Nina Nansen and Klemet Nango investigate the disappearance of a precious artifact and the murder of a reindeer herder in Kautokeino a village located in the middle of an isolated snowy tundra.

This contemporary romantic comedy, that’s based on a global bestseller, follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s impossibly wealthy family. Matters are further complicated because he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia and every single woman in his social class is jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down. This film is rated PG-13.

February 1st - March 31st Chase away the winter blues by playing a fun game of bingo. Pick up a Winter Book Bingo card next time you’re in the library and choose which spaces you’d like to fill by reading. Never read a book by a Kentucky author or a book written by a celebrity? We’ll be reading Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. In 1941, fifteen-year-old Lina and her family are pulled from their Lithuanian home by Soviet guards. She’ll fight for her life, vowing to honor her family and the thousands like hers by burying her story in a jar on Lithuanian soil.

Kentucky Shakespeare Theatre: Teen Acting Workshops Thursday, February 28th • 9:30am, 11am, 1pm, and 6pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED
We’ll spend the day with the Kentucky Shakespeare Theatre learning what it takes to be an actor with these exciting acting workshops. Registration is very limited on each class so make sure you register early. 9:30am or 6pm - Renaissance Dance Learn and perform the social dances of Shakespeare’s day including the Pavane, Gathering Peascods, and more! 11am - Acting Fundamentals Follow the history of acting while learning the fundamentals of the craft through group improvisational exercises. 1pm - Conflict Resolution Focus on affirmation, communication, cooperation, and strategies to deal positively with conflict.

Kids! Here’s your chance to win some prizes and read at the same time. Pick up a Book Bingo card in the Children’s Department when you visit and start the game. Choose from the selections listed on the card, successfully fill out a row or column to complete a “bingo”, and bring it back in to select your prize. Rich colors, intriguing characters, and ancient foundations are showcased in thirty-five stunning, large-format photographs. This exhibit is on loan from the collection at Georgia Southern University.

NEW YEAR FRESH START!
If overdue fines have been keeping your kids from using the library,

Effective January 1st, 2019 all current overdue* fines have been removed from the cards of patrons under the age of 18! This also includes cardholders who incurred fines as a juvenile but who are now over age 18. It’s time to come back to the library so everyone can once again enjoy our collection of books, DVDs, audiobooks, ebooks, and more! Be sure to check out the fun and engaging programs the library offers for all ages including infants, children, tween, and teens on our website at laurellibrary.org. *Replacement costs of lost/damaged items not included in fine waiver.
