Numismatist: Coin Collector and Appraiser Friday, July 6th • 11am-5pm Location: Main Library SIGN IN UPON ARRIVAL

Want to find out if Grandpa’s wheat penny is worth a mint? Bob “Doc” Jones, Winchester’s premier numismatist, will be at the library appraising coins and currency for free. Appraisals will be done on a first come, first served basis and are limited to 15 minutes. This is strictly an informational program. There will be no sales or trading.

Mah Jongg

Monday, July 9th • 5:30-7:30pm Location: Kentucky Room NO REGISTRATION Similar to the Western game of rummy, Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation that involves a degree of chance. Experienced players, see if the tiles fall your way during a fun evening of play. If you’ve never played, please contact us before attending.

Saturday, July 14th • 6:30-7:30pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Often recognized from his appearance on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, ventriloquist Tom Crowl will present a high-energy, family-friendly evening filled with inanimate objects that spring to life with more personality than one would ever anticipate. Tom has been the featured opener for recognized celebrities and high-profile acts including The Drifters, Chubby Checkers, Rodney Atkins, The Marvellettes, and The Diamonds. Audience participation is encouraged. This will be an evening you won’t forget!

Tonight we’ll be watching I Can Only Imagine. This inspiring true story follows the life of Bart Millard. His troubled childhood and mended relationship with his dad inspired him to write the mega-hit song, I Can Only Imagine that is a reminder of the power of forgiveness. This film is rated PG.

Dr. Donnie Bunch, from Saint Joseph London KentuckyOne Health, will provide overviews of Colitis, Crohn’s, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). A question/ answer session will conclude the class. Bite Size Learning is an educational, free lunch series brought to you by Saint Joseph London KentuckyOne Health.

My Brother’s Keeper is a Bluegrass/Folk band with a contemporary sound, energetic live performances, creative musicianship, and positive lyrics. MBK has presented itself as one of the fastest rising Bluegrass bands on the Cincinnati music scene. Part of our Kaleidoscope Concert Series co-sponsored by PNC Bank and the Laurel County Public Library.

Murder by the Book

Thursday, July 19th • 6-7pm Location: Kentucky Room NO REGISTRATION This month we’ll be reading Susan McBride’s mystery To Helen Back. Amateur sleuth Helen Evans investigates the death of Milton Grone who is disliked by most of the people in town. To further complicate matters, all suspects have perfect alibis.

Do you enjoy singing? Would you like to sing and dance like a rock star? Join in the fun during our afternoon of karaoke and dancing geared towards our special adults. There will be a wide variety of song options and everyone will have the opportunity to sing and dance!

If you’re interested in improving your writing skills and finding other writers to share ideas and techniques with, the library writers’ group is perfect for you. Associate Professor Amanda Morris from Somerset Community College will facilitate the session.

African-American Musical Connections in Appalachia Tuesday, July 24th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Dr. Kathy Bullock, former Director of the Berea College BME Choir, will present an educational program focusing on the influence artwork has on a culture. She’ll explore the connections between African-American and Appalachian music through stories, songs, and audience interaction. This program coincides with our exhibit Bandits & Heroes, Poets & Saints.

First Aid for Dogs and Cats Tuesday, July 31st • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Need to know more about helping your pets during emergency situations? Dr. Pat Boland from London Veterinary Clinic will be here assisting pet owners in learning basic first aid procedures for their furry friends. First aid supplies that should be kept on hand will also be discussed.

Bandits & Heroes, Poets & Saints: Popular Art of the Northeast of Brazil June 16th - August 11th Bandits & Heroes, Poets & Saints tells the story of how African, European, and indigenous cultural traditions have interacted over a period of more than 500 years to form the distinctive culture of this fascinating area of the largest country in South America. This exhibition has been made possible through NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is brought to you by Mid-America Arts Alliance. Bandits & Heroes, Poets & Saints: Popular Art of the Northeast of Brazil was organized by Con/Vida-Popular Arts of the Americas and Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit, MI.

Red, White, and Boom Each year the city of London hosts an amazing fireworks display next door to the library. This year’s celebration will be Saturday, June 30th starting at 4pm. Fireworks will begin at dusk. The library will closing at 4pm that Saturday to help accommodate the large crowd that will be in attendance.

Independence Day The library will be closed Wednesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Don’t forget, you can always access our extensive online collection of ebooks and audiobooks by visiting our website.
