It’s for the Birds!

Monday, August 9th • 1-2pm Location: Community Room REGISTRATION REQUIRED Relax and use your imagination to create a beautiful retreat for the birds that visit this summer and fall. The birdhouse and painting supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring embellishments (beads, seashells, etc.) to decorate your birdhouse.

Tuesday, August 17th • 6-7pm Location: Kentucky Room NO REGISTRATION Love to read and discuss what you’ve read? Join us at Bookmarked where you can take part in great conversations with others who love books as much as you do. You’ll discover new favorites, explore different genres, and share thoughts about a monthly selection. This month’s selection is The Marsh King’s Daughter by Karen Dionne. This book is a mesmerizing tale of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future: her father.

Logan Halstead: Online Concert Thursday, August 5th • 7-9pm Location: NO REGISTRATION

Born in Lubbock , Grady Spencer’s roots dig deep into Texas soil. By day, Spencer is a foreman for a commercial construction company. By any other time, he’s songwriter and front-man of Grady Spencer & The Work.

At only 17 years old, Logan hails from Boone County, West Virginia – home of Jesco White, coal mines, and…not much else. He’s got a sound and songwriting ability that’s eerily reminiscent of guys like Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan. Logan has that mystic quality that every songwriter seeks to harness each time they put pen to paper, and he’s just getting started. “Dark Black Coal” is a striking lamentation on growing up in coal country, and he takes you there.

FitLit: Walking Book Discussion Club Every Friday in August • 9-10am Location: Front Sidewalk NO REGISTRATION

Walk with us as we discuss what we’ve been reading. Share about a book, article, or magazine you’ve read or just join in to hear recommendations from others. We’ll meet on the sidewalk in front of our main entrance, walk to the park for some laps, and return to the library. Watch social media for weather-related changes.

Grady Spencer & The Work

Thursday, August 26th • 7-9pm Location: NO REGISTRATION

The Work originally formed in 2013 on the stage of Paradox Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Drummer Blake Sager was joined by bassist Johnny Hatcher in 2016, followed by guitarist Tyler Martin in 2018. The Work’s music reflects its members: honest, good-timing, with a nod to blue-collar roots.

Jamie Wyatt: Online Concert Thursday, August 12th • 7-9pm Location: NO REGISTRATION

Jaime Wyatt is a striking figure that walks the Earth with an old soul. Her repertoire tells stories of heartbreak and redemption, delivered by a voice that is both rich and clear. Comparisons are frequently drawn to Neko Case, Stevie Nicks and at times she has been anointed a female Tom Petty. Wyatt is a dynamic performer, dually noted as a powerhouse singer and stellar guitar player, sailing between vintage 60’s and 70’s Country/ Rock/ Soul anthems and heartfelt ballads of love and confusion.

Willi Carlisle: Online Concert Thursday, August 19th • 7-9pm Location: NO REGISTRATION

With a style forged in the fire of Ozark oldtime music and his ever-growing collection of antique music, Willi Carlisle’s musical stories hoot, stomp, and saunter through joys and troubles uniquely southern and timelessly true. Equally comfortable on banjo, accordion, fiddle, and guitar, Carlisle has earned accolades for his versatility with performances in the UK, Canada, and across the USA.

Monday, August 30th • 6-7:30pm Location: Community Room REGISTRATION REQUIRED Grab a bingo card and see if luck is on your side! If you get bingo, then you’ll win a book as your prize! TEENS

True Crime: Darlie Routier Tuesday, August 31st • 6-7pm Location: Community Room REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Each month we’ll discuss fascinating cases that have gripped a nation and try to explain the criminal psychology by using descriptions of police investigations and trial procedures. On June 6, 1996 at 2:31am a call came in for 911 emergency services in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. The caller was 26-year-old mother Darlie Routier. Darlie was frantic and could be heard screaming and crying on the call. She tells dispatchers that someone broke into her home and attacked her family. When police arrived just minutes later they discovered Darlie bloodied from knife wounds and her two boys both stabbed to death. Within days, detectives said that there was no intruder and that Darlie viciously killed her sons. This is one of the most debated cases of innocence or guilt in the nation.
