M is for Mississippi: A Road Trip Through the Birthplace of the Blues Documentary

M for Mississippi collects the sounds, images, and feel of both the performers and their native landscape.

Soak up the fun during our outdoor water games! Be the first to cross the finish line during the rain gutter races, knock all of the cups down using the squirt bottle, throw the fish back in the pond, and more. Once the games are over, we’ll relax inside with a snack and short movie.

Reed Masterson is a nationally-touring, awardwinning, modern-day illusionist, who brings a whole new meaning to the term “magic show.” With his signature rockstar style, and larger-than-life personality in high demand, he spends more time on stage than off. He’s performed for numerous celebrities, has been featured on ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, The CW, and even performed for a studio audience during the filming of an A&E television special. His quick-witted, off-the-cuff, sarcastic sense of humor, and his fast-paced and edgy brand of magic, has been a smash hit across America. This is a magic show you won’t forget!

Matinee Movie: Marry Me

Wednesday, August 17th • 1-3pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Pop superstar Kat Valdez is about to get married before an audience of her loyal fans. However, seconds before the ceremony, she learns about her fiancé’s cheating ways and has a meltdown on stage. In a moment of inspired insanity, Kat locks eyes with a total stranger in the crowd and marries him on the spot. As forces conspire to separate the unlikely newlyweds, they must soon decide if two people from such different worlds can find true love together. This movie is rated PG-13.

True Crime Cases: Robert Hansen Tuesday, August 30th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Robert Hansen, the Butcher Baker, was an American serial killer. From 1971-1983, he abducted and murdered at least 17 women in Alaska. He hunted many of them in the wilderness with a rifle and a knife.

Mermaid Magic

Grab some dice and let’s roll! We have a variety of board and card games to play, both old classics and new favorites. Bring friends to play together, or meet some new ones at the game table. You’ll have a funfilled gaming session accompanied with a sweet treat!

Mysterious stories about mermaids dates back as far as 1000 B.C., that’s over 3,000 years! Join us for a magical time learning about mermaids through books and video as you and make a cute craft!

Join us as we welcome Hank the horse to the library as he browses our shelves and signs up for a library card. Follow Hank and his mom, Tammi to the auditorium to for a special program as they share his inspiring story of rescue and hope that will warm your heart.

Catapults have been used as a way to attack castles throughout history. Sometimes armies had to build their own catapults with whatever materials they could find. We’ll create our very own catapults, then have a fun practicing our launching skills. We’ll see how far our catapults can throw!

ON EXHIBIT A Cast of Blues Now - August 11th

The captivating masks and images in A Cast of Blues tell the story of the hopes, sorrows, and triumphs of the men and women who lived and breathed the blues in Mississippi. The exhibition is fully accessible to all visitors, featuring braille labels and educational materials, as well as a music playlist for gallery use and a closed-captioned film about the Cast of Blues project. Visitors are encouraged to touch the resin-cast masks. Says McConnell-Dickerson, “As a sculptural and visual art experience, feeling the life-made casts of these individuals and their facial expressions transfers their experiences directly to our fingertips.”
