Appalachian Basket Traditions Monday, June 13th • 6-7:30pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Today’s crafts were yesterday’s necessities. Basket weaver Jamie Ponder will demonstrate basic basket making techniques. Following this we’ll discuss their importance in Appalachian culture.

Join us for painting on the patio session with Melanie Callahan. Ms. Callahan will teach us the step-bystep process on how to create a sweet summertime painting. Ms. Callahan is a local educator, author, and illustrator.

Our local American Idol contestant, Brooks Kidd, will share his musical talents as well as his experiences while on the show. He’s back home from Hollywood and performing his smooth soulful music across the region as he continues to pursue his passion for music.

Fresh Recipes with Johanna Thursday, June 16th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Johanna will demonstrate recipes that will look beautiful, encourage healthy living, and allow you to explore new tastes. The ingredients are simple, not expensive, and will create delicious foods you’ll want to make at home.

Matinee Movie: Dog

Wednesday, June 15th • 1-2:30pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION With a dog named Lulu by his side, Army Ranger Briggs races down the Pacific Coast to make it to a soldier’s funeral on time. Along the way, Briggs and Lulu drive each other completely crazy, break a handful of laws, narrowly evade death, and learn to let down their guards to have a fighting chance of finding happiness. This movie is rated PG-13.

True Crime: Richard Ramirez Tuesday, June 28th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Tonight we’ll discuss Ricardo “Richard” Ramirez. Dubbed the Night Stalker, Ramirez was an American serial killer, serial rapist, kidnapper, and burglar whose crime spree took place in California in the 1980s.

Melanie Callahan, a local educator, author and illustrator, will be teaching us the step-by-step process of creating your very own summer painting. This would be a great décor piece to hang up in your room or to give as a gift.

DIY Sugar Scrub

Tuesday, June 14th • 5-6pm Location: Community Room REGISTRATION REQUIRED Would you like to have a summer glow? Learn how to make your very own sugar scrub in just 3 simple steps! Sugar body scrubs are great for exfoliating your skin, as they aid in keeping it healthy by removing dead skin cells, lifting away dirt and excess oil.

Peter Parker is now unmasked, his identity as SpiderMan known to the world. In a way, he likes it that his girl MJ knows his true identity, the same with his best friend Ned and Aunt May. However, problems follow this reveal. Thus, Peter approaches Doctor Strange to help him resolve the situation by performing a specific time-altering ritual. But that also bears some unintended and problematic consequences. This movie is rated PG-13.

Featured YA Author K. Ancrum

Ancrum is the author of the award-winning thriller The Wicker King, the interstellar romance The Weight of Stars, and the Peter Pan thriller Darling. Ancrum is a Chicago native passionate about diversity and representation in young adult fiction. She currently writes most of her work in the lush gardens of the Chicago Art Institute.

Beach Party with Lilo & Stitch Friday, June 10th • 11am-1pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION

Bring your beach towel or blanket and we’ll pretend we’re at a Hawaiian luau! Join in and have a great time making crafts and enjoying some tasty treats! We’ll enjoy watching Lilo and Stitch and spending time with our friends! This movie is rated PG.

Adopt-A-Plant Day Outdoor Family Movie Night: Clifford the Big Red Dog Friday, June 3rd • 9-11pm Location: Parking Lot NO REGISTRATION

Bring your camp chairs and join us for a family movie. Be here by 8:30pm to claim the best spots. When Emily Elizabeth is given a small red puppy for her own, she never imagined she would awake to find an enormous red dog in her apartment! With her mother away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle set out on an adventure to find the right home for their big red dog! Rated PG.

Ready, Set, Go! School Readiness Workshops June 6th, 13th, and 20th Location: Community Room NO REGISTRATION

This event is designed to introduce parents and students to skills they can practice over the summer to be ready for preschool or kindergarten. Fun hands-on activities will focus on beginning math, reading, and science. Session 1: Monday, June 6th • 5-7pm This session we will focus on science. Session 2: Monday, June 13th • 3-5pm This session we will be focusing on math. Session 3: Monday, June 20th • 3-5pm This session will focus on reading and writing. Parents and caregivers will take home a free book and information packets that will help prepare students for a successful school year.

ON EXHIBIT A Cast of Blues

June 16th - August 11th The captivating masks and images in A Cast of Blues tell the story of the hopes, sorrows, and triumphs of the men and women who lived and breathed the blues in Mississippi. The exhibition is fully accessible to all visitors, featuring braille labels and educational materials, as well as a music playlist for gallery use and a closed-captioned film about the Cast of Blues project. Visitors are encouraged to touch the resin-cast masks. Says McConnell-Dickerson, “As a sculptural and visual art experience, feeling the life-made casts of these individuals and their facial expressions transfers their experiences directly to our fingertips.”
