LAUREN HICKLING INTERIOR DESIGNER Curriculum Vitae Information: +1 307 203 0632 | laurenhickling@live.co.uk 108 West 1st Ave, Vancouver, BC, Canada New Zealand Citizen | IEC Working Holiday Visa, 2 years Portfolio: issuu.com/laurenhickling

Personal Profile and Experience I am an Interior Designer from New Zealand with three and a half years experience working in commercial interiors. This year I was announced as the Interior Awards Emerging Design Professional, an award that recognises up and coming talent within the interior design industry. I graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 2015 with a Master in Interior Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Studies majoring in Interior Architecture. Following this, I joined Warren and Mahoney and worked within their strong interior design team for three and a half years. During this time I refined my skills within workplace design through all aspects of the design process from strategic briefing, concept design, technical drawing and site observation to project completion. I also have experience in hospitality and hotel projects in the space planning and concept phases. I recently lead a 1,000m2 workplace project from concept to project completion for Kiwi Property, a large developer in Auckland, New Zealand. Their project aimed to create a welcoming and innovative workplace for

their 100 staff. This project was recognised in the 2018 Interior Awards, as one of three finalists in the Workplace up to 1,000m2 section and received two Gold Pins at the 2018 Best Awards. Other key workplace projects include PwC Auckland and Wellington, MC and Russell McVeagh, two large New Zealand law firms. Through my career so far, I have become proficient in the Adobe Suite, Revit and SketchUp, using these programs to design, render, detail and present workplace, retail and hospitality projects. I have a particular interest in materials and how their inherent qualities can fuel the design and perception of space. Detailing these materials to give them poetic justice is the skill I continue to pursue. I have a keen eye for well balanced design, believing a well presented piece of work is key to its reception.

Kiwi Property —

ROLE: INTERIOR DESIGNER

Involvement: Interior Designer with guidance from a Senior Interior Designer through concept design, material selection, SketchUp modelling and rendering, construction drawing and construction observation. Kiwi Property is a project where I got to flex my design influence, and is where my design language is most apparent. For me, this manifests itself in the welcome space. This image captures my approach wholly. The soft suede plinth is welcoming and adds a ritual moment of pause. Obscured glass pivot doors open the large meeting rooms to the welcome space, an action that signals transparency and openness. All of these elements contribute to the rituals and soften them to create a genuine sense of belonging, a concept at the core of the Kiwi Property identity.

While much of the design draws on my design language it is also highly collaborative and would not be complete without the influence of a talented team, client and consultants. Planning, ideas and detail are refined over time to finally capture the distinct needs of each client and space. For Kiwi Property the layout aims to reduce barriers between the entry experience and workspace, welcoming guests to work along side employees.

All dimension to be verified on site before producin shop drawings or commencing any work. Do not scale. The copyright of this drawing remain with Warren and Mahoney Architects Ltd.

To form a modern kiwi identity a restrained mix of New Zealand references carry a genuine sense of belonging into the material palette - materials where chosen for their relaxed ambiance or the raw beauty they contribute to the atmosphere

Effective work is at the heart of every workplace project and can be considered through the same ritual approach. Each space needs to perform to specific needs - to aid collaboration, give privacy or spur deep concentration.

When designing the welcome desk, the arrival sequence was carefully considered. The form needed to gently create a moment of pause as a concierge comes to welcome you. The round form and attached work surface intentionally forgoes the traditional barrier of the reception desk

PwC AUCKLAND — ROLE INTERIOR DESIGNER

Involvement: Interior Designer assisting a Senior Interior Designer through strategic briefing, concept design, material selection, SketchUp modelling and rendering, Revit modelling and construction drawing PwC Auckland puts collaboration at the heart of its future workspace, creating a vertical village connected by a series of voids and sweeping gold stairs. Through briefing, PwC revealed themselves to be not as we expected. This collaborative heart aims to create an unexpected experience not seen in other PwC sites around the world. The core opens to a white exposed ceiling, polished concrete floors and industrial glazed meeting suites with abundant planting.

Each collaborative heart is anchored by a gold dual sided teapoint. This form and material approach is repeated throughout the design to signal a point of arrival at the client floor concierge or a highly functional kitchen island in the staff hub

While minimalistic in form, each point is highly functional. These pieces were carefully designed and detailed to ensure several people can orbit the points at any one time.

RUSSELL McVEAGH — ROLE GRADUATE INTERIOR DESIGNER

Involvement: Graduate Interior Designer assisting a Senior Interior Designer through concept design, material selection, SketchUp modelling and rendering, construction drawing and construction observation Russell McVeagh offers a different atmosphere to create a future-ready workplace for the ‘aspiring lawyer’. Previously scattered social spaces now resonate in one social heart, connected over two floors by a large sweeping void and helical stair. The success of this space is its ability to bring together the whole firm in a warm relaxed atmosphere. Soft, yet discerning materials are chosen for their natural characteristics and contribution to the experience.

Details are thoughtfully selected to contribute to the overall atmosphere. Soft grey stone and Dinesen Douglas Fir linings are contrasted with a deeply rich brass IMO kitchen and honed stone top.

MC — ROLE GRADUATE INTERIOR DESIGNER

Involvement: Graduate Interior Designer assisting a Senior Interior Designer through concept design, material selection, SketchUp modelling and rendering MC (previously Meredith Connell) presented the opportunity for the interior to develop along side a fresh new brand. The design pushed MC to redefine their developing internal culture and presence in the marketplace. Moving to one large floor plate, the interior used notions of a ‘streetscape’ to define space and provide long views down the floor plate MC’s culture supported a flatter hierarchy and a move to open plan for all staff. To support this the design drove a higher quiet room ratio with individual personalities driven by the brand development
