This is art school. You don’t come here to play it safe. You come to art school to push boundaries. Take risks. Experiment. You come to Lesley University’s College of Art and Design to do all of that guided by faculty who never limit you. Surrounded by artists who, like you, are always exploring. You come here to create something that means something. Something that’s never been done before.
EXPLORE the unexplored.
SEE the unseen.
You have the ability to see things in a way no one else does. This is where you’ll learn to convey your perspective without saying a word. You’ll master different media and techniques, and discover how to apply signs, symbols, and metaphors to speak your own visual language. FOUNDATION YEAR Freshman year is a time for you to unpack your preconceptions. It’s when you can begin asking big questions, generating new ideas, and establishing your place within a community of artists. With a foundation in critical skills, from composition to color theory and conceptual thinking, you’ll gain exposure to new tools that evolve the way you work. LUNDER ARTS CENTER opening in January 2015 Also known as the home of the College of Art and Design. Here you’ll find the technology, machinery, and studio space you need to begin breaking new ground. The Lunder Arts Center contains collaborative work spaces, studios, laboratories, and an extensive art library built into a historic church.
SPEAK the unspoken. The biggest plus of being small: your voice will be heard. No auditorium-style lectures here. Your classes and critiques will be more like open forums. Professors and classmates will look to you for original insights and ideas. Together you’ll delve deep into contemporary art and cultural issues, dissect elements that make pieces successful, and bounce new concepts off of one another. It’s this community atmosphere combined with professional mentorship that will propel you toward new ways of thinking and creating.
THE MAGIC NUMBER 15 students. 1 professor. Our classes will never be larger than that. That’s because small means more collaboration, more mentoring, and more progress. Staying small is a catalyst for achieving big. A SMALL COLLEGE WITHIN A LARGER UNIVERSITY At Lesley, you get the best of both worlds: an intimate art school experience combined with the opportunities of a larger university. Choose to keep your academic focus within the arts, or combine disciplines from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to inform your work.
Find your place in Boston and Cambridge.
