4096 LOGOS FOR IDTV In close cooperation with a media company, IDTV, Lava has developed a new dynamic visual identity. It is a flexible system that consists of four unique ‘pixels’ that represent the four main fields of activity of IDTV: Film, Television, Events and the Internet. These four ‘pixels’ become the DNA of the visual identity and can be used in a variety of different ways in building type, images, structures and of course the logo. Each pixel is unique which creates diversity and yet there is an overall unity that is created in the visual forms. This theme of ‘unity in diversity’ is echoed on each layer of the identity. Hence there are 4096 possible logos and yet only one identity. This approach sets the identity apart from others in that it can grow and develop onwards from the moment of its birth. Indeed everyone is encouraged to generate new ideas, unknown combinations and variations of the identity. This step towards an ‘open source’ identity allows employees to feel ownership of the identity and personal responsibility in its development. This results in an identity that has the right balance between consistency & change; it is recognizable over time (consistent) and dynamic in its developments over time (change) to echo the developments in the company of IDTV.
