Introduction

Piemonte I am now officially known as ‘the Snowman’ in the hills of Langhe; snow has accompanied me during my annual visit here every year for the last 6 years, so winter tyres are a non-negotiable when hiring a car from Turin airport! I was looking forward to this year’s trip as we would be tasting predominantly 2010 Barolo and Barbaresco both of which have received extremely positive press. This great wine region has much in common with the Rhône Valley, as it offers exceptional value from top to bottom and has not seen a poor vintage for over 12 years. From our visits and tastings it is clear that 2010 will rank as one of the very top vintages of the last 30 years with more experienced producers comparing it to 1990, while many suggest a more refined version of 2004. A long and consistent ripening period (without the heat spikes of 2007 or 2009) coupled with fine weather right to the end of the growing season, allowed growers to harvest at will. The resulting fruit had great balance of sugar and acidity, producing genuinely complex wines which will cellar incredibly well. The 2010s are restrained and intellectual – precise, vibrant and mouth-coating with more than a hint of Pinot Noir. The Barberas from 2011 are also worth a mention as this warmer vintage seems perfectly suited to this under-appreciated grape variety. They are rich of texture with the trademark rasp of acidity, while being extremely versatile - they can be drunk young or old - and I struggle to think of better value anywhere in the world. The danger of hype is that it increases demand which can push prices up and make it hard to get what you want. I buy wines from this offer every year and I can wholeheartedly recommend every single wine.

Nick Dagley - Buyer

Some thoughts from producers we visited: The perfume we got during the harvest is one you experience once in every 15 years. I macerated the Baroli on their skins for 45 days, the 2010s will be truly great.

Gianluca Grasso 2010 reminds me of 2004 but with finer tannins.

Enzo Boglietti 2010 is like a French 2004!

Cesare Bussolo, winemaker at Roberto Voerzio 2011 is a top, top vintage for Barbera – the best we have ever produced.

Gianni Boglietti

Press The 2010 vintage in Barolo is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. The cool growing season produced transparent, vibrant Barolos that pulsate with tension, crystalline purity and site-specific nuance.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media Those shifting temperatures created the conditions for perfect ripening, beautiful aromatic intensity, bright color and wines built for long cellar aging. A “classic” vintage is the word being thrown around by producers.

Piemonte Wines

Cantina del Pino Renato Vacca is one of the most respected winemakers of Barbaresco and a stellar producer of Nebbiolo. He has a thoughtful, intelligent and continually questioning approach to both viticulture and vinification, backed up by a formidable attention to detail. The style is a combination of both traditional and modern, so any of his Barbaresci can spend time in large botte or barrique, dependent on Renato’s intuition concerning the individual wines, rather than any set rule. These are smooth, complex and beautifully balanced wines that, in their youth, often belie their ageing potential.

2012 Dolcetto d'Alba, Cantina del Pino Renato hails 2012 as a classic vintage for Dolcetto, with perfect ripening of the fruit without being too warm. There is an appealing dark fruit medley on the nose with some minty freshness and minerality; nice colour with no over-extraction and a balanced texture on the palate.

Drinking 2014 - 2017 £87 per 12 bottles

2012 Langhe Nebbiolo, DOC, Cantina del Pino Made from young vines of the Barberesco classification but using a low-tannin clone to create a more approachable style. Light, vibrant colour with delicate weight and real freshness on the palate; this is very approachable with delicious strawberry character and meat nuances.

Drinking 2014 - 2017 £120 per 12 bottles

2008 Barbaresco, Ovello, Cantina del Pino Having released the 2009s last year, Renato decided to hold his 2008 Barbaresci back for a further year to allow the wine to soften out from this serious vintage. The extra time in bottle has only added to the sheer depth and polished nature of the fruit from these 70-year-old vines. Multi-layered fruit on the nose with red and black cherries, blueberries and pepper spice; there’s a delectable grip on the palate and superb freshness to match. Antonio Galloni, 94 points

Drinking 2015 - 2024 £156 per 6 bottles

2008 Barbaresco Albesani, Cantina del Pino Younger vines than the Ovello but producing wines of impressive concentration and elegance, this is also a late release having been held back for a year to mellow. Sweet, dried fruits and wild strawberries precede vanilla and mocha flavours with great integration of oak and silky tannins on the finish. Antonio Galloni, 94+ points

Drinking 2015 - 2024 £156 per 6 bottles

Castello di Verduno The village of Verduno lies at the northern edge of the Barolo production area and it was here in the mid 19th century that Nebbiolo was vinified for the first time, when the King of Savoy purchased the castle and installed his oenologist. The Burlotto family bought the estate in the 1900s and the family's involvement continues to grow. Thanks to the marriage of Gabriella Burlotto to Franco Bianco they have holdings in Barolo and Barbarescos. The wines may be traditional in style, but the winemaker, Mario Andrion, makes great use of innovation and the wines show wonderful purity and have very good ageing potential.

2010 Barbaresco, Castello di Verduno An excellent drinking Barbaresco cut from the same cloth as the traditionally made Baroli from Castello di Verduno. Pure mineral nose with a warm glow to the red berried fruit and nicely balancing tannins to the soft texture. Fantastic value for money.

Drinking 2014 - 2020 £108 per 6 bottles

2009 Barbaresco Rabajà, Castello di Verduno Considered by locals to be the ultimate expression of Piemonte, Barbaresco Rabajà has a bit of everything, making powerful stylish wines which keep extremely well and challenge the very best expressions of Nebbiolo. Classic nose of red cherry, anise and wild flowers, the palate shows the ripe frame of the 2009 vintage balanced by Verduno’s traditional vinification. Savoury and mouth-filling this has huge potential; a bottle of the 1999 with dinner was sensational.

Drinking 2016 - 2022 £147 per 6 bottles

2008 Barolo Monvigliero Riserva, Castello di Verduno Without question the finest expression of the village of Verduno, the vines struggle in the poor soil of this amphitheatre-like vineyard. Initially closed on the nose but with air comes notes of spice box, tarmac and cherry jam. The palate is huge with grippy tannins and a medicinal feel built for the long haul; winemaker Mario says 2008 is his preferred vintage of this great wine.

Drinking 2017 - 2025 £219 per 6 bottles

Rocche Costamagna As in Barbaresco, the soils in La Morra are predominantly calcareous marls and tend to produce fragrant, elegant wines with less weight than even the wines from Castiglione Falletto across the valley. The Costamagna family have been producing wine here for over 160 years, with Alessandro currently at the helm, making the best use of Rocche dell’Annunziata’s cool exposure to produce wines of exceptional value.

2010 Barolo, Rocche dell'Annunziata, Rocche Costamagna It is rare to find such inexpensive Barolo that still delivers the classic, elegant profile of the Nebbiolo grape. This however is one such wine – attractive black cherry fruit with liquorice spice and lots of freshness on the palate. There is grip but the tannins are fine, with the wine being nicely balanced by its delicate weight.

Piemonte Wines

Cavallotto Based in Castiglione Faletto, brothers Alfio and Giuseppe Cavallotto form the complementary duo responsible for some of the most characteristic and original wines to be found in Barolo. Traditional values on the estate determine the organic approach to viticulture, and their distinctive approach to winemaking means that long fermentation and ageing processes dictate the late release of the top wines. These Riserva wines can spend up to five years in traditional Slovenian botte, requiring masterful and confident winemaking; cue several professional critics hailing Cavallotto Baroli as the Burgundies of Piemonte.

2011 Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Boschis, Cavallotto If you are looking for quality Barolo but at a fraction of the price, then look no further than Cavallotto’s Langhe Nebbiolo from the Bricco Boschis exposure. Already with lots of nice development – meat, liquorice, tar – this is an energetic Nebbiolo with plenty of Barolo-style fruit and great freshness on the palate.

Drinking 2014 - 2018 £192 per 12 bottles

2010 Barolo Bricco Boschis, Cavallotto Grapes from three vineyards are used for this cuvée: San Giuseppe, Colle Sudovest and Punta Marcello and the result is a chip off the old block of the San Giuseppe Riserva at a bargain price. Exuberantly flavoured with some great lifted fresh fruit and lavender with Cavallotto’s signature underlying meatiness; there’s an excellent elegance to the palate – this falls decidedly into the Burgundy-esque, traditional style of Barolo.

Drinking 2015 - 2022 £216 per 6 bottles

2007 Barolo Riserva Vignolo, Cavallotto With all the presence and flavour intensity of San Giuseppe but with an injection of testosterone, the Vignolo Riserva is unmistakably the more masculine of the two Crus. The higher sand content in the vineyard generates the super-charged tannins in its structure, but these are more than matched by the fruit intensity – huge, ripe foresty red fruits and orange served up with aged cured meats and smoke. Dazzling!

Drinking 2014 - 2030 £288 per 6 bottles

2006 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis San Giuseppe, Cavallotto If comparisons are to be made between the Cavallotto wines and those of great Burgundy, then it’s the San Giuseppe Riserva that’s waving the Chambertin flag. The 2006 Riservas are the best wines to be produced from this estate yet and the San Giuseppe, with its lifted, floral elegance to match the sheer staying-power of this wine, it is one of the best hidden gems of the vintage. Wild strawberries, damsons, lavender, coffee and cured meats on the nose with a beautifully-soft texture to follow on the palate.

Drinking 2014 - 2026 £360 per 6 bottles

Elio Grasso Sitting atop the Gavarini zenith, from which Elio’s son Gianluca masterly fashions his Vigna Chiniera, the stately Grasso residence provides an insight into the success of this dynamic father and son team. In tasting through the flight of 2010 Baroli, the atmosphere in the tasting room is electric, and Gianluca’s enthusiasm for the vintage is unambiguous, ‘When you have a great vintage...from the moment that you start work in the vineyard in the early season, you know...you can tell, that it will be a great year. In 2010, I knew it would be a great year!’ These iconic wines are not to be missed.

2013 Langhe Nebbiolo Gavarini, Elio Grasso Elio Grasso has an enviable reputation for his great Baroli but his entry level Nebbiolo is too good to be overlooked. Sourced from a separate 1.2 hectare vineyard, the wine is given a stainless steel fermentation and then matured in bottle. The absence of any wood allows for a very pure, expressive style with lovely red fruit notes on the nose. Excellent choice of wine for the winter months.

Drinking 2014 - 2020 £129 per 12 bottles

2011 Barbera Vigna Martina, Elio Grasso Boasting one of the best Barbera available, Gianluca cites 2011 as an ideal vintage for the grape, having picked two to three weeks earlier than normal thanks to the generous warmth. Due to some clever vineyard positioning, this has great freshness, and having been matured in French oak, has an attractive wood-smoke aroma to compliment the pure, ripe fruit, with texture and concentration rounding off the palate.

Drinking 2015 - 2019 £99 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera, Elio Grasso Stemming from 35 year old vines and planted on a soil base with more chalk than the Casa Maté, the Chiniera carries airs and graces akin to top quality Burgundy. This has a gorgeous nose of orange, smoke, nuts and marzipan with a powerful but elegant palate of finely balanced grip and acidity.

Drinking 2015 - 2025 £297 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Case Maté, Elio Grasso More concentration than Chiniera with very pure black fruits and mineral intensity, this is a wine ‘brooding’, and will need time to show its full complexity. Time in the glass opens up the flavours to reveal lifted fruits and orange peel with some astonishing aromatics. Ginestra is rightly considered one of the best vineyards in Monforte, and this embryo of a wine will be one of the greats.

Piemonte Wines

Elvio Cogno The winery at Elvio Cogno sits on a hill outside Novello surrounded by 11 hectares of vineyards. The Cogno family have made wine in the area for four generations with Elvio taking the next step when he bought the farm in 1990. Now his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore, continue to make fantastic wines and once more they have been recognised as a ‘Winery of the Year’ by US magazine Wine & Spirits, one of 100 in the world!

2011 Barbera d'Alba Bricco Merli, Elvio Cogno "Another simply stunning 2011 Barbera, the weight of ripe fruit which coats your mouth is beautifully balanced by violets, sour cherry-like acidity and an intriguing spicy mineral note. Textually superb, the finish goes on and on; this will repay bottle age." Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92 points

Drinking 2014 - 2017 £156 per 12 bottles

2010 Barolo Cascina Nuova, Elvio Cogno "Beguiling nose of lavender and mountain flowers, this is a wonderful, good value introduction to the genius of Elvio Cogno. The palate is tense yet silky with a core of black cherry fruit balanced by ripe, firm structure. This showcases 2010 in all its glory." Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 93 points

Drinking 2015 - 2028 £249 per 12 bottles

2010 Barbaresco Bordini, Elvio Cogno "Cogno's 2010 Barbaresco Bordini is a classic wine from Neive. Deceptively medium in body, the 2010 wafts from the glass with perfumed red berries, mint, pine, liquorice and sweet spices. Over time, the wine's breadth and power become more apparent, but the style remains built on total understatement and finesse. What a gorgeous Barbaresco this is." Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 93 points

Drinking 2015 - 2025 £135 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Ravera, Elvio Cogno "Cogno's 2010 Barolo Ravera emerges from some of the oldest vineyards in the property. Dark red cherry, plum, menthol, liquorice and smoke meld together in a sumptuous wine that impresses for its breadth and volume. At the same time, there is plenty of Ravera minerality supporting the fruit. The Ravera doesn't have the early appeal of the Cascina Nuova, rather it is a wine for the cellar. Hints of savoury herb and floral notes with a faint suggestion of Chinato wrap around the finish." Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 95 points

Enzo Boglietti This 21-hectare estate in La Morra has been family-owned since 1991, with Enzo running the show in the winery and his brother Gianni in charge of the vines. Definitely on the modernist side of Barolo production, Famiglia Boglietti make one of the best new-style Dolcettos and three excellent barolos from named vineyards; Fossati, Case Nere and Arione. New-oak ageing gives these wines a welldefined edge.

2011 Dolcetto Tiglineri, Enzo Boglietti Dark, spicy and extremely serious Dolcetto with an intense nose of cooked blueberries, violets and graphite. This old vine selection shows just what Dolcetto can do in a top vintage like 2011. Six months in old oak brings texture and finesse to a great wine which will keep.

Drinking 2014 - 2017 £99 per 12 bottles

2011 Barbera Roscaleto, Enzo Boglietti This superb La Morra vineyard could make very good and expensive Barolo, but Enzo has planted Barbera with stunning results. Glossy, almost opaque with crushed bramble fruit and pepper, the palate is concentrated yet vibrant with punchy acidity married to richness of fruit and exotic spices. The Boglietti brothers think this is the best Barbera they’ve ever made.

Drinking 2014 - 2019 £168 per 12 bottles

2010 Barolo Fossati, Enzo Boglietti Always the easiest Baroli in the range to taste, young Fossati sits at the bottom of the hill and produces ripe wines of great depth. The 2010 has soaring aromatics with dried cherries, roses and cinnamon. Amazingly pure with refined structure and balance, the great depth of fruit in this gorgeous Barolo.

Drinking 2017 - 2023 £198 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Case Nere, Enzo Boglietti The clone planted in this great vineyard produces tannic wines which need bottle age. Always a favourite wine in the Boglietti range, the 2010 is a wine of huge promise. Brooding tarry fruit with notes of dried fruit and vanilla, firm yet ripe tannins and sublime balance, the finish goes on and on. 2010 seems to suit the Boglietti style very well.

Piemonte Wines

G.D. Vajra Aldo and Milena Vajra are some of the most dynamic people in Piemonte and also some of the most modest. They produce an interesting and expanding range of wines of which Bricco Delle Viole is the undoubted highlight. The vineyard is located within the commune of Barolo at higher altitude and one part of the vineyard has vines which are over 50 years old. This leads to a wine of added complexity and richness.

2010 Barolo Le Albe, G.D. Vajra The 2010 Barolo Albe is a real stunner. Brilliant and finely sculpted on the palate, the 2010 dazzles from the very first taste. Expressive, floral notes meld into bright red fruit, mint and crushed berries in a vibrant, striking Barolo endowed with pure energy and class. In most vintages the Albe is juicy and fruit-driven, but in 2010 it is the wine's minerality that is front and centre. Aldo Vajra opted to bottle the 2010 a little bit earlier than normal in order to preserve freshness, a decision that worked beautifully here. This wine is made from three parcels; Fossati, Castello della Volta and Costa di Vergne. The 2010 Barolo vintages are rightly drawing a lot of attention and should be relatively easy to find at a fair price. Simply put, the 2010 Barolo Albe is not to be missed!

Drinking 2017 - 2028 £120 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, G.D. Vajra “At the moment, the 2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, is sitting in three casks that correspond to the different sections of the vineyard. The final blend has not been made,…still, the three casks were all impressive and point to a wine with a bright future.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2014

Drinking 2017 - 2030 £219 per 6 bottles

Galloni has given this wine 95+ points since the 2005 vintage and on tasting the barrels there is a depth of flavours with notes of cherries, violets and roses. This wine has the potential to be beautifully balanced, and an outstanding example of Barolo this vintage.

Giovanni Manzone In the 50 years Giovanni has been at the helm in this small but eminent domaine, the acquisition of high quality sites such as those in Gavarini and Ginestra (of Elio Grasso fame) has spawned a legacy of first-rate wines. Now in the talented hands of Giovanni’s son Mauro, the winery continues to build on its assets, with the 2006 Gramolere Riserva attracting no less than 94 points from Antonio Galloni. The focus here is on pure, natural, non-invasive agriculture with unfiltered, minimal-sulphur wines; the end result is wines that are built to last – we tasted a 1998 Bricat on our visit and it was simply outstanding.

2009 Barolo Castalleto, Giovanni Manzone Lots of sweet fruits and dried strawberries on the nose with nutmeg and vanilla spice. Very expressive fruit but also big concentration on the palate thanks to the tannic-inducing clay soils, this will reward a little patience.

Drinking 2015 - 2022 £144 per 6 bottles

2009 Barolo La Gramolere, Giovanni Manzone Mauro describes this as his most elegant and silky Barolo owing to the more calcareous soils in Gramolere’s south-west facing site. There’s some lovely development already on the nose, with some lifted black cherry fruit, classic tar complexity and a well-structured palate with plenty of succulent fruit.

Drinking 2015 - 2022 £156 per 6 bottles

2009 Barolo Bricat, Giovanni Manzone Sourced from a small plot of 50-year-old vines from within the Gramolere vineyard, the Bricat sets the pace for the incredible calibre of wines from this family-run domaine. Very complex with multi-layered fruit – lots of black cherry and fruit compote – with floral and forest flavours and great acidity to balance out the wine’s rich intensity.

Guido Porro Based in Serralunga D'Alba, famed for its powerful and long-lived Nebbiolo, Guido Porro is fastbecoming one of the top names in the region. Not only do his modestly-priced wines meet acclaim within the community but his charming good looks have earned him the reputation of the ‘George Clooney of Serralunga’! The wines themselves undergo long, traditional maceration using only naturally occurring yeasts and the wines are not filtered. These are extremely good, terrifically balanced wines, and will benefit from cellaring, despite their evident youthful approachability.

2013 Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna l'Pari, Guido Porro Great purple colour with good concentration but no over-extraction, Guido’s Dolcetto is very appealing with fresh black cherry fruit of perfect ripeness and a great mineral texture on the palate.

Drinking 2014 - 2017 £90 per 12 bottles

2013 Langhe Nebbiolo, Guido Porro Lovely approachable style of Nebbiolo with pure fruit and a balanced grip from the tannins. This undergoes a long 25-day maceration like the Baroli and shows some attractive aromatics of wild fruits, with some richness and a touch of mineral; soft and elegant as with Porro’s more serious examples.

Drinking 2014 - 2018 £138 per 12 bottles

2010 Barolo Vigna Santa Caterina, Guido Porro The more feminine of the two Cru sites, Santa Caterina has a lifted, floral quality with the classic tar subtleties of a traditional producer. Quite savoury and tannic at this stage but opens up to show some beautifully vibrant fruit.

Drinking 2015 - 2024 £117 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Lazzairasco, Guido Porro Having been planted in the 1960s in a parcel within the famed Lazzarito vineyard, the vines of Lazzairasco have produced some of the best fruit in the estate’s vintage history. Darker in profile than the Santa Caterina with black cherries and macerated fruits, a good burst of spice on the palate and finishes with an intense but refined texture.

Piero Busso The key to the success of this small, family-run estate has to be thanks to Piero’s tireless dedication to his vineyards, and to the nurturing of what is a supremely elegant set of wines. Neive has a reputation for producing Barberseco’s most delicate examples of Nebbiolo, and Piero’s careful work in both the vineyard and the cellar clearly exemplifies this. Together with his wife Lucia, son Pierguido and daughter Emanuela, Piero runs the estate organically, with hand-picked, individually vinified parcels undergoing gentle maturation in mostly large botte, resulting in wines of finesse that express their particular site.

2010 Barbaresco Borgese, Piero Busso Located in Albesani with an ideal south-west facing exposure, the Borgese is characteristically elegant. Almost Burgundy-like in weight, with light red fruit, earthy complexity and hints of sweet spice from the gentle use of oak. Some nice grippy tannins are present but with good ripeness; this is already showing really well.

Drinking 2015 - 2022 £129 per 6 bottles

2010 Barbaresco San Stunet, Piero Busso Piemontese dialect for the illustrious vineyard San Stefanetto, San Stunet is regarded as the best site in Neive and produces wines of real class. With 20% barrique influence, the nose has more toast and sweet spice to match the riper fruit, with more masculine-structured, integrated tannins on the palate.

Drinking 2015 - 2024 £159 per 6 bottles

2010 Barbaresco Gallina, Piero Busso The flagship wine of the estate offers up the full plethora of Nebbiolo flavours, having seen more oak and with more concentration, this is a serious wine with lots of depth. Nice richness with dried fruit complexity, ripe mixed berries with floral, pepper and spice; in spite of the concentration, the palate still has an elegance with soft, silky tannins.

Drinking 2015 - 2024 £219 per 6 bottles

Bruno Giacosa Protector of the realm of traditional winemaking in Piemonte, Bruno Giacosa is considered somewhat of a living legend in Barolo and produces some of the most outstanding, Burgundy-elegant wines of the region. His legacy lies in the region’s now ubiquitous practice of bottling single-vineyard sites separately. This year, what was most obvious was the lack of showiness from the winery despite their obvious class and confident winemaking. There is little need, it seems, to make a song and dance about wines that speak for themselves.

2008 Barolo, 'Le Rocche del Falletto', Riserva, Falletto di Bruno Giacosa "One of the great wines of Piemonte this ‘red label’ Riserva is only produced in great vintages. Dense and savoury the tannins are so sophisticated they melt into the core of complex, tight fruit. Enormous potential here and one of the best wines we tasted all trip." Monica Larner, 96 points, The Wine Advocate, June 2013

Drinking 2018 - 2027 £1050 per 6 bottles £1065 per 3 magnums £720 per double magnum

2011 Barbaresco Santa Stefano di Neive, Bruno Giacosa Sadly this is the last vintage of this wine as Giacosa’s 50 year contract to buy fruit has come to an end. This is a historic wine! A beautiful wine with waves of almond kernel, raspberry and fine grained tannin, so long and such definition a great expression of Albesani.

Roberto Voerzio In Voerzio's own words "The 2010 vintage has to be included among the best in the last twenty years, like 1997, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2007, but with a nuance that makes each of them unique." Due to growing conditions in the spring, what is already one of the smallest productions in Piemonte, if not the whole of Italy, just got smaller. Thankfully summer and autumn were sunny and dry and allowed for a late harvest at perfect maturity. The Voerzios consider that in 2010 "All the wines are great in all their components: they are silky, intense, fragrant, interesting."

2010 Barolo Cerequio, Roberto Voerzio How can such a concentrated wine made from Nebbiolo taste so elegant. There is huge weight here but a silkiness of structure which shows a true master at work. Outstanding wine which has been rated 99/100 by Antonio Galloni.

Drinking 2018 - 2032 £684 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo La Serra, Roberto Voerzio This vineyard tends to have a bit more drive and bigger tannins. They are controlled and super-fine in 2010 but will need substantial bottle age to meld into the fruit. Black cherry, dried flowers and cinnamon provide an intoxicating mix.

Drinking 2018 - 2032 £684 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Le Brunate, Roberto Voerzio Cesare says that this is one of the more feminine Brunates produced at Roberto Voerzio. Crushed herbs, lavender and kirsch combine with a serious, savoury edge. Top vineyard + superstar estate = legend in the making!

Drinking 2018 - 2032 £684 per 6 bottles

2010 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata, Roberto Voerzio This is the first vintage produced here without any Torrglione as the contract has finished. This large vineyard sits in the heart of La Morra, Roberto Voerzio's parcel lies mid-slope and is perfectly exposed. The most perfumed of all the Baroli we tasted it soars from the glass, floral and exotic with satin-like texture that feels deceptively approachable.

Drinking 2020 - 2034 £684 per 6 bottles

2004 Barolo Riserva, 10 Anni, Fossati Casa Nere, Roberto Voerzio A riserva released on its tenth birthday from the great 2004 vintage. This is a stonier vineyard giving complex tannins and a more linear wine. With air, the nose gives marzipan, cured meats, mint and wild cherry. A real treat to taste although it is still a baby.
