1. Click Import Pictures

When inserting an album have all the pictures you will need in one folder and in the order you would like them to appear. You can change the order later, but it is much easier to do this now. To insert all the pictures at one time, select one picture you would like to insert and then press <Ctrl> + “A”.

2. Browser Window Opens

The next and back buttons at the bottom of the screen allow you to move freely through the program. Always remember to before moving to another window.

You can change the arrangement of your pictures at any time by clicking and dragging the picture to its new location or highlighting the picture and then using the arrow left and arrow right buttons at the end of the bar. 4. To delete a picture, highlight it then click on the “X” button at the end of the bar.

Adding a Title to Your Pictures TitleYou are able to add titles to any picture. Type your wording into the textbox provided. You can use the editing buttons located above the textbox to justify the title or move it to the top, middle, or bottom of the picture.

Narrating your pictures Title Title

For options on Fonts, click the button. That will bring up the window below.

This window allows you to change font type, size, color, etc. As you make adjustments and click OK, the title will appear in the picture window next to the textbox. You can add titles to any picture you have imported. Simply click on the picture in the picture bar to select it. A word of caution: if you add a title you cannot add motion to the picture.

Photo Story allows you to narrate your pictures as well. You can make notes for the speaker by typing a script in the textbox located on the Narrate window. A microphone will be needed to record your voice. Clicking on the button will help you set up your microphone so that it works properly. To start recording, click on the red button on the screen. The button will blink while it is recording. To stop recording, click on the blue square. If you want to delete and start over for any reason, click on the undo arrow. Once you are done recording, you can click on the to be sure it sounds OK.

Photo Story 3 automatically sets the transition between each picture to “Cross Fade” and the duration of the transition at 1 second. To edit these settings follow these steps in the Customize Motion window…

Use this option to import music from outside the program. Step 1: Highlight the picture where you want the music to start Step 2: Click “Select Music” Step 3: Browse and select song ***The music will play until it or the video is done. To change to a different song, click on the picture you want the new song to start and repeat the steps.

Create Music Use this option to use music that already exists in the program. Step 1: Highlight the picture where you want the music to start Step 2: Click “Create Music” Step 3: There are different options to choose from, select what fits the mood of your story best Step 4: Click OK ***The music will play until the video is done. To change to a different song, click on the picture you want the new song to start and repeat the steps.

***Before you finalize your video, be sure that you select “Save Project” and save one more time. If you do not “Save Project” finalizing you will not be able to go back and edit or add to the existing project. You are now ready to save your video so it can be played on the computer. Step 1: Select “Save your story for playback on your computer” Step 2: Click on Browse Step 3: Choose where you want to save your final product and name it Step 4: Click next It will take a few minutes to put everything together and finalize. You can then view your video.

There are certain editing tasks that can only be accomplished in timeline view. Toggling between Storyboard and Timeline view allows you to edit if the mode best suited to the task at hand.

Adjust Transition Duration The default length for transitions in Movie Maker is one second. In Timeline view you can click and drag your second clip further into or out of your first clip. This adjusts the amount of overlap thus changing the length of the transition. Trim Clips Split/Capture Frame

An individual clip’s start or end point can be trimmed. Place your cursor at the start or end of a clip to revel the trim tool. Click and drag to trim.

By pressing the Split or Capture buttons (in the preview window) you can split a clip or capture a frame at the current location of the play head.

Adjust Title Placement

By clicking on the title in the Title Overlay track you can adjust duration and location Add Audio Track When you enter Timeline View you gain access to the Audio/Music track. This allows you to add audio (music) to your movie on top of existing audio in the individual movie clips.

Capture Video The “Capture Video” portion of the Task Pane is where you will bring in all of the video, digital pictures, and audio files you wish to use for your project. Click on the appropriate task, depending on what you want to import, and browse to where you have it saved on your computer. The program does not move the file to itself, it reads it from the location it is saved. Do not move the file while working with Movie Maker. The program will not be able to locate it. To be safe, always use file types that are associated with Microsoft (.wmv, .wav, .jpeg). This will save you headaches in the long run. If you have other file types you can use Format Factory to convert them.

Titles or Credits

Video effects allow you to put movement or actions on a picture or video clip you have added to your project. To preview the effect, double click the picture. It will play in the preview window. To add an effect, drag it onto the corresponding media on the storyboard.

Video Transitions allow you to move from one clip to another smoothly with animation. To preview the transition, double click the picture. It will play in the preview window. To add a transition, drag it to the storyboard in between the two clips you wish to use it.

Titles and Credits allow you to add text to imported media or create a new slide to add to your project. Choose where you want to add the text, then type in the box. It will preview in the window. You can change text font, color, and title animation as well on the editing page.

Finish Movie Title Title To finalize and render your movie so it Title plays back on your computer, click on “Save TitleFinish Movie. to my computer” under Follow the directions listed on the adjoining screens. If you are limited to a certain file size for some reason, Movie Maker will allow you to decide how big you want your file to be. This is a great option if you want to email or post your video on-line.

Home Tab

Add- Use this section to add media (videos, photos, music) to your project. You will browse to your computer to locate the files. This is also where you can add Titles, Captions, and Credits to your slides.

AutoMovie- Automatically adds title slides, credit slides, transitions, and pan/zoom options to your project. It will also manipulate the duration of your slides to match the length of your song.

Editing- Rotate pictures, mix Audio, remove items that are selected, and select all options are here. “Fit to music” will alter the duration of your slides to fit the length of the music you have added.

Sharing- When saving your movie as a final product, determine what format you want. You can choose to render the movie for play on a computer or other media tools.

Transitions- Choose how your slides will move from one to the other. First, select the slide you want to set the transition for. By hovering over a transition option, you can preview what the transition will look like. Use the drop down to access even more options. Click on the transition to add the option to your photo. You can add the same transitions to multiple slides by selecting all the slides at one time. Use the “Duration” option to set how long it takes for the transition to complete.

Pan and Zoom- This will add motion to your photos. There are many options to choose from by clicking the drop down arrow. Hovering over the option will allow you to preview here as well. Click to add the option to your photo. You can add the same effect to multiple slides by selecting all the slides at one time.

Effects- Add a dramatic effect to your photos. Change to black and white, Sepia, or really go crazy! Clicking on the drop down box will give you more options and even allow you to add multiple effects to the same photo. Use the “Brightness” option to lighten or darken your photos for a perfect balance.

You can add videos, photos, or a combination of both to your project. Click on “Add videos and photos” on the top toolbar or in the storyboard area. A browser window will open for you to search for your media.

You can easily change the order of your media by clicking and dragging it from one location on the storyboard to another. You can remove an item by right clicking on it and choosing “Remove.”

Helpful Hints: • Hold down the “Ctrl” button and click to select multiple items at once. • To select all items in a folder, highlight one item then press “Ctrl” + “A”.

Setting Duration Title

To change the duration of a photo, highlight the photo, select the “Edit” tab and change the time listed in the duration box. If you want to do multiple photos, hold down the “Ctrl” button and select all the photos you want. If you wish to change the duration of all photos in the project, highlight one photo and then press “Ctrl” + “A” or use the “Select All” option in the “Home” tab.

Working With Pictures/Videos Title Title

The media you add will display to the right side of your screen in the storyboard area. All media will be placed in the order you add it. That being said, if you add the media in the order you want it to play then you will save yourself some time.

Browse to where you have your media stored. Select the pictures/videos you want to use in your project and then click “Open.” You can repeat this process as many times as needed.

By default, any photos you put in will be displayed for 5 seconds. You can change the duration of each photo individually, multiple photos, or all of your photos at once.

You can add text to your media by using the options found in the “Add” section of the “Home” tab. You have 3 options available to you: Title, Caption, and Credits. With all 3 options you will have the same features. Alter the font and location of the text on the screen. Set the transparency of your text and when it will appear/disappear from your slide. You can also add effects to the text. Here is what each of the 3 options will do for you… 1. 2. 3.

Title- This option will add a title slide in front of the media you currently have selected. Caption- Add text to any photo or video you have in your project. Credits- Add credits to the end of the video

Audio- When using a video or audio file, this section will allow you to make some adjustments on the volume. Click on “Video volume” to balance the level of audio between two audio files playing at one time. Fade in/out will give you the option to fade the music “slow, medium, or fast.”

Adjust- Use “Background color” to set the color of any title and credit slides. Set the amount of time a photo appears using the “Duration” option. You can adjust one slide at a time, multiple slides, or all slides.

Editing- Here you have the option to split a video file into multiple sections or trim the video by setting a start and end point. If you click on the “Trim tool” option, the video window will become your trim screen and a new tab will open with all your trimming options.

Music Tools- Options

Audio- When using a video or audio file, this section will allow you to make some adjustments on the volume. Click on “Video volume” to balance the level of audio between two audio files playing at one time. Fade in/out will give you the option to fade the music “slow, medium, or fast.”

Editing- Split an audio file into multiple sections so you can delete part of the file and/or move part of a file to another part of your project. Set an exact start and end point/time to guarantee your audio file is playing at precisely the right moment.

Text Tools- Format Title Title Title Title Font- Use this section to determine your font style, color, and size. This works much the same as any Microsoft Office product.

Paragraph- Left, center, or right justify your text. You can also choose to make your text transparent so the image behind it can be seen. Note that you can drag your text box anytime, anywhere on the screen.

Adjust- Use “Background color” to set the color of any title and credit slides. Set the start and amount of time your text appears using the “Duration” options.

Effects- Choose how you want your text to display. You can add animation to the text to make it fly in, drop down, etc. Click to drop down arrow to display more options.

option located in the “Home” tab. This will have to be an audio file that already exists on your computer. You can choose to add to the beginning of the project or to the current point you have selected. Browse to the file and select it to insert.

Animation can be added to your slides by visiting the “Animation” tab. The 2 options you have are Transitions and Pan and Zoom. Transitions- Choose how your slides will move from one to the other. Select the slide you want to set the transition for. By hovering over a transition option, you can preview what the transition will look like. Use the drop down arrow (highlighted in green above) to access even more options. Click to add the option to your photo. Pan and Zoom- This will add motion to your photos. There are many options to choose from by clicking the drop down arrow. Hovering over the option will allow you to preview here as well. Click to add the option to your photo. Helpful Hint: You can add the same animation to every slide by “selecting all” first.

You can change where the audio plays in your project. In the storyboard, click and drag the audio file to wherever you would like it to play. There are other more advanced options available to you in the “Music Tools” options.

Saving and Finishing Movie Title project as- This is the option you choose Save Title to save as an editable file. Saving it as a project enables you to change what you have done, make corrections, and/or add more to the project.

A great option available to you is the “AutoMovie” function. This function will automatically add titles, credits, transitions, and pan/zoom options to your project for you. It will also manipulate the duration of your slides to match the length of your song if applicable. Once all options are applied, you are still able to go into each area individually and alter whatever you feel needs it.

Keep in mind that when working with a project, have all your media files located in one place and do not move them. The program will revisit that location to use them. Save movie- This is the option you will choose when you are done with all your editing. You are now ready to make a finished product. There are quite a few formats for you to choose from. The two you will probably use the most is to high definition or standard definition. Choosing high definition will take longer to render and give you a much larger file. It also gives you a much higher quality video to play back.
