doPDF What is DoPDF?

Creating PDFs

How to I use DoPDF? DoPDF is located on all district computers and is automatically added to the list of printers for each computer. In Microsoft Office programs you can access doPDF the same way you would print a file, either using the File menu option or Office button.

DoPDF is a program located in the teacher toolbox that allows you to make turn any printable document into a PDF file.

Print the document You will need to select Print from either the File menu or Office Button.

Select the printer Select doPDF v6 as your printer and push OK.

Select location to save After pushing OK, the Save PDF file box will appear. Select the location you would like to save your document and push OK. After a brief period of time, your PDF file will open.

Converting Media Files

Add Source File

Click the appropriate button on the left bar (if you want to convert your media file to “AVI”, click “All to AVI”). You can convert video, audio, picture and more.

Click “Add File” to add source files you want to convert. Add as many source files as you need converted to that particular format.

After adding source files, the “OK” button will be enabled.

Save Converted File Before converting, you’ll want to tell the program where to put your converted file after the conversion process. Click “Option” on the main screen to set up this feature. You can either A, change the default folder to be one place Format Factory always files your converted media. Or B, check the box next to “Output to source file folder” which tells the program to put the converted media in the same folder that the source file came from.

Convert To begin the conversion process, press “Start” at the top of the window.

Final Step

The state of the conversion process is displayed.

Once finished you can “Clear List” and close Format Factory.

Maps 101 is an excellent source for maps…pretty much any type of map you would need you will find here. You will also find pertinent information pertaining to maps, states, countries, etc. To access Maps 101, go to www.maps101.com. Click on the yellow Subscriber Login box and you will be brought to a login page. You can get your login information from your librarian. Once you login the first time, the computer generally remembers and you will not have to login each time.

The home page is where you will find any updates or changes made to the site. It has a “featured” section where it highlights different areas of its site. It will also share with you articles and other resources that have been recently added. Notice the tab options and site menu. You will find these on every page. The menu allows you to move effortlessly through the site. The site menu will be covered on the next page. The tab options will be discussed below along with the search engine.

Tab Options and the Search Engine

The Tab Options are very useful. The State Standards tab allows you to choose the state you teach in as well as the grade. It will then list the standards and give maps that correlate with that standard. The User’s Guide is also very beneficial, especially for newer users. It lists out the different types of maps/resources available and under which menu item they can be found. The Help tab will give you answers to some common troubleshooting.

The search engine will allow you search for maps/resources specific to a category or by all categories. It can cut down your search time dramatically if you know exactly what you are looking for.

Downloading Options When you have found the map you want, you have 4 options to choose from… 1. Download Image: If you choose this option, the map will open in a new browser window. You can then right-click on the map and choose to copy and paste the map or save it to your computer as an image (GIF). 2. Download PDF: If you choose this option, you will be able to save the map as a PDF file on your computer. You can then print the map out and use in your classroom. 3. Get a Poster-Sized Map: Maps 101 will print out a 3 foot by 4 foot map and send it to you to use in your class. The cost for this is $19.95/poster. 4. View: You can just use the map as you see it right then and there!


Maps 101 National Geographic

Access thousands of maps, hundreds of activities and lesson plans, and current event articles from National Geographic. There are also videos, educational games, and quizzes. Maps vary from interactive to satellite imagery and date back to as far as the 1890’s.

If you can’t find a map here it probably doesn’t exist! Interactive maps, city maps, black-line maps, physical maps, thematic maps, atlases, country maps, state maps, county maps…the list goes on and on. The maps are separated into groups which are then broken down further and further until you can find exactly what you need.

Search through Interactive Maps to find animated timelines through history. You can also take a sort of virtual tour discovering the monuments of Washington, DC as well as other national monuments and memorials. Visit US state capitals. Roxio Creator What is Roxio Creator? Roxio Creator is designed to burn image files, audio files, video files and documents to a CD.

Audio

What kind of Project or CD to Create? Copy

In the Audio area of Roxio there is one main option: • Audio CD - create an audio CD from audio files (music files) stored on your computer.

Steps 1 & 2

In the Copy area of Roxio there is one main option: • Copy disc – create a duplicate of any non copy-protected media.

Steps 3 & 4 Select Roxio Creator DE ->Projects

Put a blank CD-R in the CD drive. When the pop up box opens click cancel.

Burn Files to CD Data

In the Data area of Roxio there is one main option: • Data disc - create a backup of your files.

Step 5 From Projects, select Data.

Click Start -> Programs

Step 6 Roxio will open and you will see the image below. Select Data Disc.

Step 7 Data Disc screen appears, click on the Add Data button.

Step 8 After clicking on Add Data button there are two choices to pick from:

• Add Files – allows you to add individual files. • Add Folder – allows you to add an entire folder of files at one time. Step 9 When finished with the adding files or folders, click on the red button in the bottom right hand corner to start the burn process.
