Family Literacy Day

Celebrate Family Literacy Day at Sarnia Library and the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery on Saturday, January 27. There will be a festival of games, crafts, and activities hosted by local community groups at Sarnia Library from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Enjoy live performances by Dan the Music Man at Sarnia Library Theatre at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Familyfriendly tours of the Family Palette exhibit and Family Saturday Studio Drop-ins will be offered at JNAAG from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Don’t miss this funfilled and educational event! Clash of the Classrooms

Attention teachers, educators, and homeschoolers!

Register your class for Clash of the Classrooms and track your students’ reading progress using the Beanstack app from February 5th to March 8th for a chance to win exciting prizes. Students can read at school or at home, and any time spent reading or being read to counts, regardless of the reading material. Maria Moore was born in Mexico but has spent most of her life in southwestern Ontario. She has had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse with a focus on mental health, addictions, and advocacy. “Not My Kind of Mennonite” is a personal dive into the history, culture, and religious and social pressures faced by one Mexican Mennonite family. Moore blends her research about the Mennonite community with firsthand accounts of her family to fully explore her father’s legacy, life, hopes, and dreams.

Maria Moore was born in Mexico but has spent most of her life in southwestern Ontario. She has had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse with a focus on mental health, addictions, and advocacy. With her first book, she hopes to bring awareness of the specific traumas and abuse in the private world of Mennonites and make it safe to disclose and seek treatment without shame.
