THE EPIC SCHOOL SHOWDOWN RETURNS FOR ANOTHER YEAR! Register with Beanstack starting January 8 and track the cumulative number of minutes your students read from February 5 to March 8. Read at school or at home; any time spent reading counts, no matter the reading material. Each minute an individual student or educator reads can be added to your class's total. Earn virtual badges as you read and follow along on social media @LCLibrary and @CKPLibrary for weekly leaderboard updates!
PARTICIPATE FOR STUDENT SUCCESS Strong literacy skills are key for future success in school and beyond. Making reading fun by challenging classes and schools can help motivate students and turn reading from a chore to an engaging activity. Research shows that healthy independent reading habits have a major impact on development and academic achievement. Reading helps students develop literacy, fluency, empathy and critical thinking skills.
READ TO WIN! PIZZA PRIZE
One pizza prize will be awarded to the class or library team that records the most reading minutes in their region.
CASH PRIZE
The secondary school with the most reading minutes per capita in their region will receive a donation of $200 for their learning commons or school library.
CLASH CUP TROPHY

BEANSTACK INFO Last year there were a few challenges with Beanstack. You let us know, and we heard you! We are changing the strategy for using Beanstack this year. Each teacher will have to register for Beanstack again, but will register a little differently. Note: When creating an account, you will be asked if you have previously used Beanstack for a reading challenge, select "No" as last year's accounts have been removed. Library supervisors may put together highschool library teams of up to 25 students. 1. Go to lambton.beanstack.org 2. Select “Register an Individual or a Family” under the “Create an account” heading. This is different from last year, but we promise it will make things easier for everyone to report their reading. 3. Use the following format when entering your account name: First name: Your first and last name (Valerie Frizzle) Last name: Your class (Grade 10 History) 4. If you already have a personal Beanstack account with Lambton County Library, you will need to use a different email address than the one you used for your personal account. 5. Select the average age of students in your class for the age on your account. 6. Select your school. 7. Select your nearest library location. 8. Select “Challenge Code”. 9. Enter the code 120787
Create an account.
Select “I am registering myself”.

TO LOG YOUR READING IN BEANSTACK: 1. Determine the total number of minutes that your class has read collectively and log that total. Each minute a student reads independently should be added to the total, so 15 minutes of silent reading for a class of 20 would be logged as 300 minutes. 2. If your class has read more than 600 minutes, you will need to log the reading in more than one batch because Beanstack won’t accept more than 600 minutes at one time. 3. Log your class’s minutes weekly, at minimum for the best experience with Beanstack.
COMPLETE ACTIVITIES TO EARN EVEN MORE MINUTES! Invite a library staff member to visit your class, host a library card sign-up at your school, and borrow materials from the library to earn extra minutes. For more information on what counts as reading and who can contribute to your class’s total, visit the Clash of the Classrooms FAQ webpage at tinyurl.com/4vzy3t42
