Leandro Negre FIH president
Dear Hockey Fan I am delighted to welcome you to Antwerp for the Men’s and Women’s FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final events, one step from end of a two-year journey that began with the regional Round One events and will culminate in India (Men) and Argentina (Women) with two showcase Finals later this year. And what an exciting event this will be. For many of the competing men’s and women’s teams, this event will not only lead to qualification for the end of year Hockey World League Final, but will also seal a place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, just who wins their passage to the World League Final and the 2016 Olympic Games will be dependent upon some important factors, which I have outlined below. The four men’s and women’s teams that finish top in Antwerp will qualify for the Hockey World League Final, to be held later this year. There is a caveat to this. In the men’s competition, if India – as host nation to the Final – do not finish in the top four in the Men’s Semi Finals at Antwerp, then the top three teams in Antwerp will qualify, along with the top three placed teams from the other Semi-Final in Buenos Aires, plus the team from either tournament who has the highest world ranking points at the time.
“When it comes to Olympic qualification, the heat is seriously on.”
In the women’s competition, much depends upon the results of the other Semi-Final in Valencia. If Argentina finish outside the top four in Valencia, as host nation for the World League Final, they still qualify for the Final. If this situation arises then the top three teams from Valencia and the top three teams from Antwerp will qualify. They will be joined by Argentina, as host nation. The final place will go to the fourth placed team at either Valencia or Antwerp with the highest FIH ranking at the time. When it comes to Olympic qualification, the heat is seriously on. There are three automatic Olympic spots available here in Antwerp, but again there is a caveat – just who qualifies for Rio 2016 will be dependent upon the results of the other Semi-Finals taking place. In the men’s event, India has already qualified for the Olympics by virtue of its gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games, so a top-three finish for India in Antwerp will free up one more qualification spot. This would go to the fourth placed team in either Buenos Aires or Antwerp, again depending upon which team has the highest FIH ranking at the time. Likewise in the Women’s competition. Korea has already secured its place at the Olympics by virtue of its victory at the Asian Games. If Korea was to finish in the top three at Antwerp, then the highest-ranked fourth-placed team in either Valencia or Antwerp will qualify for the Olympics. For the Men’s competition, host nation Belgium is joined by the world number one side, Australia, plus other top-12 ranked teams India, Pakistan and Great Britain. China, Ireland and, France and Malaysia all qualified via Hockey World League Round 2 events. Belgium women play host to the world number one and two teams in the shape of Netherlands and Australia. Other top-12 teams are New Zealand, Japan and Korea. Round 2 qualifiers are Azerbaijan, Italy and and India. With Olympic and Hockey World League Final qualification at stake, we can expect dramatic, action-packed and competitive events in this hockey-loving country. I would like to thank everyone involved in this Hockey World League Semi-Final event, including the host organising committee, National Associations, officials, volunteers, players and fans. Finally, I would also like to wish all participating teams and officials the best of luck for the event.

“ I wish all the athletes, staff members and officials a very positive tournament, and I wish all the spectators a wonderful event in a bold, packed and loud stadium.”
Marc Coudron President of the Royal Belgian Hockey Association
Dear hockey friends, It is a huge honor for the Royal Belgian Hockey Association that the FIH has requested us to organise such a big event, and such an important tournament: the Road to Rio ! Our decision to work in close collaboration with hockeyclub KHC Dragons in Brasschaat, gives me total confidence for the quality that our hockey guests (players, staff members, officials, commercial partners, and of course all the supporters, from all over the world) will enjoy during this fortnight of top hockey. I really like to thank all the volunteers who have done, are doing and will do till the end of the tournament, a tremendous work to give the athletes the possibility to perform at their best and to give the spectators the chance to enjoy a incredible experience. It is the first time in the Belgian hockey history that we have the opportunity to welcome 20 national teams to our country. After the wonderful tournaments in 2012 (Olympic Qualifier at hockeyclub Beerschot) and in 2013 (European Nations Championship at hockeyclub Braxgata), and before the World Cup Qualifier for women in 2017 at hockeyclub La Rasante in Brussels, it’s my great pleasure to welcome all of you in Brasschaat : I wish all the athletes, staff members and officials a very positive tournament, and I wish all the spectators a wonderful event in a bold, packed and loud stadium. A last word: let the best win … in the total respect of our common values of fair-play and friendship.

“The choice of the hockey federation to have this tournament organized by KHC Dragons is no coincidence. In both ladies’ and men’s hockey they have belonged to the leading clubs of the country for years.” Koen Verberck Deputy Mayor
Dear visitor Welcome to Brasschaat, green and sports minded town. As a deputy mayor and sportsman, I am proud to have the Hockey World League here in our town. First of all my gratitude goes out to the police corps, the fire department, our hockey club KHC Dragons and the various municipal services that have thrown themselves heart and soul into the preparations and the organization of this hockey tournament of international allure for over a year. Receiving thousands of visitors in the heart of our town is no sinecure. Apart from the undoubtedly many sporting highlights, I invite you to get acquainted with everything else Brasschaat has to offer. Our numerous cosy terraces and our beautiful and diverse shopping street will surely delight you and contribute to make your stay in Brasschaat an unforgettable experience. The choice of the hockey federation to have this tournament organized by KHC Dragons is no coincidence. In both ladies’ and men’s hockey they have belonged to the leading clubs of the country for years. The club has expanded from two to three fields in a short time. They will soon start the construction of a fourth field, also made possible through the subsidization of the Flemish minister of Sports Philippe Muyters. As a sports teacher and mayor of Brasschaat, I also hope that this tournament and the expansion of the infrastructure will stimulate even more youngsters of Brasschaat to participate in sports. The next 14 days, teams of 20 different countries will battle for an Olympic ticket. I hereby wish all the teams good luck achieving their goal : Rio 2016 ! Yet without forgetting the Olympic idea of fair play, respect and sportsmanship. A last word of gratitude goes out to the many organizations, schools and commercial enterprises of Brasschaat that have shown the flexibility necessary to give Brasschaat, through this sports event, the grand allure that it deserves. I wish you a pleasant stay in our town.

“The Flemish Hockey League currently boasts the strongest member growth of all sports federations in Flanders. Hockey is more popular than ever!”
Philippe Muyters, Flemish Minister for Sport
Dear sportsfans, The road to Rio 2016. The starting signal has been given; everyone is looking forward to seeing which athletes will soon prove they are the world’s best at the Olympic Games. Flanders is extremely proud to be hosting one of the most important international qualifying tournaments. The incredible performances of our Red Lions and Red Panthers, the organisation of a fantastic European Championship in 2013 and the enthusiastic spirit of our Flemish supporters have led us to expect a wonderful sportive spectacle. The world’s best teams will certainly not be missing this appointment! As the Flemish government we are fully committed to investing in the organisation of top sporting events such as this one, and in the training of potential future winners. Champions securing great results are not only ambassadors for Flanders, but for their entire sport. They inspire young people to tread in their footsteps and ensure that the crowd’s enthusiasm infects people of all sizes and ages, encouraging them to take up sports as well. And they’ve had results! The Flemish Hockey League currently boasts the strongest member growth of all sports federations in Flanders. Hockey is more popular than ever! Hockey lives in Flanders! I wish all participants, volunteers, organisers and visitors of this event an unforgettable experience. Enjoy your sport, and especially: lend your voice to our Red Lions and Red Panthers, and cheer them on down the road to Rio!

The Fintro Café
Tuesday 5 May 2015 marked ten years, to the day, since the Fintro brand was first launched on the market.
Our Fintro Café is the place to be (near the food zone). As presenting sponsor of the Hockey World League, we specially equipped a bar where all visitors of the tournament are welcome and many activities are organised.
Hockey selfie stick
Fintro kicked off its campaign for the Hockey World League with a viral video showing a few of their 300 bank agents racking their brains to find a truly original gift to offer during the tournament. After a beer stick, a keyring stick, an usb stick and many other proposals, someone of the cleaning staff taking a selfie in the mirror inspires the marketing manager: the hockey selfie stick is born. So come to our Fintro Café, watch the video and seize the opportunity to win one.
#FintroLovesHockey
At the Fintro Café you can find some selfie walls where you can take your selfie as if you were part of the hockey team. Share your fanta-stick selfie with the hashtag #fintroloveshockey and maybe you are the lucky winner of tickets for the semi-final of the Hockey World League on 3 July!
Near the Fintro Café you will also find 2 cashpoints put at the disposal of all visitors by Fintro.
Fintro 10 years
The brand is currently known by their private customers in particular, but Fintro has a drive to get also closer to self-employed people, members of the liberal professions and companies in the future. This concept is encapsulated in the slogan of Fintro’s running campaign: ‘Fintro Business. From entrepreneur to entrepreneur.’ The campaign delivers a clear message to business owners that Fintro is the right partner to provide financial advice for independent traders, professionals and company owners and direct them to the fintrobusiness.be site, where the results of a recent survey demonstrates that the Fintro bank agent is able to provide all the assistance that entrepreneurs and business people require.

Cheer for your team at home, as if you’re right there! The Hockey World League will be broadcast on Sporting Telenet… and that’s just the beginning. From now on, much more hockey will be shown on this sports channel. Who else better than Manu Leroy to tell us all about it? Until last year, he was a goalkeeper for the Brasschaat Dragons, now he’s product manager at Sporting Telenet.
Manu, tell us: what will the hockey fan get to see ?
“Sporting Telenet gives hockey a boost.”
To begin with, obviously, the Hockey World League. That is, half of the matches of the Belgian team (the other half will be shown on VRT), the semi-finals, and the finals. We’re broadcasting these matches via an open network so that all of Telenet’s 1.8 million digital TV customers will be able to watch them. After that, we’ll be showing the next two European Championships, the Belgian competition and, every weekend, you’ll be able to watch one or two matches from our Premier League. Knowing that international players like Tom Boon, Thomas Briels and Simon Gougnard are returning to play for Belgian teams, fireworks are guaranteed.
Why this decision ?
Because I love to watch hockey myself. (laughs) No, seriously: in the past few years, hockey has grown massively in Belgium and we’ve noticed that there’s a great public interest. Last year’s World Cup in The Hague was an extremely lively event... So the basics are there, but it could use another boost.
How do you plan to do this ?
We aim to let the sport grow by lending it our support. By broadcasting more hockey, we’re giving it a greater platform, which will prove advantageous to everyone. We want to tell a wide-ranging story. So we’ll not merely broadcast matches, but reports and documentaries as well. Think, for instance, of insights or player profiles of our youth teams. They’re the ones who will soon be playing at the highest ranks, so it’ll be interesting for fans to get to know them now.

How many fans are there ?
There are around 40,000 hockey players in Belgium and this number continues to grow every year. The Olympic Games of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro will undoubtedly have a positive influence on this.
And there it is : the Games in Rio.
It’s the first time that Belgium has a chance at Olympic success. The men’s team is definitely a dark horse in my opinion. And the Red Panthers, our women’s team, are also capable of achieving great results. They could take another step forward, aiming for a Top 10 or a Top 8 ranking even. If both teams achieve their goals, Belgium’s hockey fairy tale will become even more wonderful and gain popularity.
But we’re not there yet, the teams still need to qualify. In Brasschaat, for instance.
I think both the men and women will be able to qualify for the Olympics. It won’t be easy, though, because the number of tickets to Rio is limited. Plus the other competing teams are not to be underestimated. Brasschaat will welcome 10 of the best countries in the world. One thing is for sure: we’ll get to experience two weeks of truly exceptional hockey. And with the support of the home crowd, many things are possible.

What is Hockey
Sport
Different ways of playing the ball
• Push : the ball is pushed with the stick, both hands are positioned wide on the grip for more strength. • Shot : the ball is hit with the stick held firmly with both hands close together on the upper part of the grip. • Flat : the ball is hit with the stick held with both hands close together and with a movement of the wrists - the stick makes a flat, scraping movement just above the playing surface. • Flick : high ball, same movement as for a push.
High ball
If played high, a ball cannot be played dangerously.
Self pass
Dimensions of a hockey pitch : 91 m long by 55 m wide Number of players : 11 per team + 5 on the bench (unlimited changes) Length of a game : 4 x 15 min (rest at half time : 10 min) Played with a hockey stick and a small heavy plastic ball. You only may touch the ball with the flat side of the stick. A goal is validly scored only when the ball was touched by an attacker within the D (half circle of 15 m in front of the goal). A ball coming from outside this D-zone and not touched by a player of the attacking team before entering the goal is not valid.
When there is a free hit, the player is not obliged to pass the ball to another team member. He can play the ball all by himself, after having stopped the ball for a short moment between the foul and the resuming of the play.
Cards
• Green card = exclusion for 2 minutes • Yellow card = exclusion for a minimum of 5 min. • Red card = 2 yellow cards or immediately red = immediate exclusion + possible exclusion for other games afterwards
Penalty corner
• Important phase of the game which often results in a goal scored • Given to the attacking team when a foul is committed by a defender into the D or an intentional foul is committed within the 23 m zone (zone between 23 m line and the goal line) • 4 Defenders & the goal keeper take place behind the goal line, while the attackers must take position outside of the D. • The ball is put on the goal line at +/- 9 m right or left of the goal and sent by an attacker to one of his team mates positioned outside (mostly at the head of ) the D. • The defending players can only enter the D from behind the goal line, when the attacker has put the ball into play. • The ball has to be controlled by the attacker OUT of the D, before it may re-enter the D. • There are different possibilities for the attacking team : direct ball to the goal (sleep, flat, push, shot), indirect phase (pass, tip-in, rebound). • With a shot on goal the ball must cross the goal-line at a height of not more than 460 mm (backboard).
025
(Penalty) Stroke
• Comparable with the penalty in football • Is given when a defender makes a heavy and/or intentional foul within the D, or a foul that prevents the ball to go into the goal. • The ball is put on the stroke point = a dot 7 m in front of the goal. • The attacker stands one on one with the defending goal keeper and must try, after the whistle of the umpire has gone, to score a goal by one push or flick (shot, flat or sleep is not allowed) towards the goal. • The goal keeper has to stand on his goal line and may move from it only when the ball has been touched by the attacker. • If the ball is stopped by the keeper or a goal post, no rebound is allowed. • All the other players must stand behind the 23 m line.
Shoot outs
• Played at the end of a qualifying game where there must be a winner, when the score is still even after extra time • The attacker, starting with the ball from the 23 m line, gets 8 seconds one on one against the defending goal keeper, to score a valid goal. • The goal keeper must stay on his goal line until the attacker starts moving forward with the ball. • Each team gets 5 shoot outs, with a sudden death situation if it is still even after the first series of 5 shoot outs.

Mastering versatility We will look after it! Traditional, industrial and window cleaning
Multi Masters Group, multidisciplinary service provider The Multi Masters Group is growing fast. With Mobility Masters and F&F Masters, the Group based in Merksem (Antwerp) has started two more companies. With over 2500 employees, the original cleaning company has expanded to the multidisciplinary service provider we are today. Yesterday’s strategy isn’t suited to today’s needs. Not only do we provide office cleaning, nowadays we also provide industrial cleaning, maintenance of green spaces, handyman services, technical maintenance, pest control, sanitary hygiene, mobile carwash, welding and construction works and catering. That is why we decided to locate Cleaning Masters in the Multi Masters Group. Although we provide this wide range of services, the customer has only one single point of contact. By outsourcing these services to specialists, you can save on activities that aren’t part of your core business. With our general headquarters at Merksem (Antwerp) and seven regional offices throughout the country, we are firmly established in Belgium. Starting from 2005 we are a part of the French group: www.samsic.com. Multi Masters Group aims high with only one goal in mind: Delivering high quality work to keep customers happy. First and foremost, we rely on our motivated workforce: We do our utmost to monitor our work and to assure a high level of service. To achieve this quality we have created 2 unique tools and made them entirely free for customers: Multi Desk, the digital, user-friendly communication and management-system and QMS, our Quality Measurement System.
Maintenance of green spaces and parkings
Maintenance of plant and machinery, welding and construction work
Business- and event catering from a to z
Sanitary hygiene and pest control
Specializes in specific cleaning for the food industry
Professional cleaning of all types vehicles: cars, trucks and airplanes
Rest assured: We will look after it! Outsourcing technicians, maintenance of installations and buildings

Have Fun Celebrate Friendship Enjoy Fair Play
& Drink Responsibly
Responsibility: our message in every bottle. AB InBev & the Hockey World League are both committed to responsible alcohol consumption. We’re proud to announce that this commitment resulted in a partnership between Jupiler Blue and the Hockey World League. Responsibility fits perfectly with the Hockey League’s other values; Fun, Friendship and Fair Play. Responsibility may have a different interpretation for different people. For a group of friends it means making clear arrangements about who will be the designated driver and for a bartender it means making sure that no beer is served to customers under the legal drinking age. For everyone next to the hockey field it means enjoying the game with a beer in their hands in a responsible manner. Bier met liefde gebrouwen, drink je met verstand. Une bière brassée avec savoir se déguste avec sagesse.

HOCKEY WORLD LEAGUE
Building Highest Performing Teams is the link between top hockey and EY Since 2012, Rudi Braes (1966) has been CEO and Chairman of EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young) in Belgium and the Netherlands. EY is a world leader in auditing, accountancy, tax, mergers/acquisitions and consultancy. “We are committed to the same values and quality worldwide. Respect, integrity, energy, enthusiasm, teamwork…and doing the right thing. These values are very close to those of the Olympics. That is why a few years ago — shortly before the Olympic Games in Beijing — we decided to support the Development Committee of Belgian Sports, a part of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee,” says Rudi Braes. EY has 210.000 employees worldwide. In Belgium and the Netherlands, we have a team of nearly 6.000 highly skilled employees. EY recruits both young ambitious people as well as experienced professionals. “Our young staff, who have come to us via campus recruitment, are always very popular on the job
market even after just 1 or 2 years with us, due to the rigorous training and learning on the job we provide them with. Naturally, we prefer for these people to continue with us but if they do choose to pursue other paths we hope to have fostered well-developed, talented individuals, and to have thus contributed to a better society.”
Business model
“At EY we aim to contribute to a Better Working World. We wish to do this by utilising our core competencies. First and foremost, we aim for the reports we deliver to inspire trust in the markets we are active in. This allows investors to make better decisions and to create more employment. Secondly, we are a house with a wealth of knowledge. If we share this knowledge with entrepreneurs, officials and politicians, we can help them make better decisions. And finally, we recruit and train a large amount of people, creating employment and future leaders. In this way, EY busies itself daily with ‘Building a better working world.’”
067
“We aim to create Highest Performing Teams, bringing together varying competences and crossing borders.”
Why has EY chosen hockey?
“Our ambition is strong growth, and to be number 1 or 2 in every market we have identified. EY also aims to become the most attractive employer. Globally we are already number 1 amongst professional service organisations. The people aspect is vital to us. We aim to create Highest Performing Teams, bringing together varying competences and crossing borders, that will be able to provide optimal service to specific clients. Such a team can consist of staff of different nationalities, genders, ethnicities, skin colours, cultures, etc. Diversity helps to strengthen these teams. This aspect of Highest Performing Teams fits in well with the partnership we are looking for within a hockey sponsorship: a hockey team must be Highest Performing to achieve the results it hopes for. Players of different competencies must be brought together to reach a goal. On top of this, in hockey we have also found the values of respect, integrity, energy and enthusiasm. We have also opted for hockey because we consider its federation one of the most mature and professional organisations in sports. Additionally, the hockey sport is growing hugely in our country and touches both the young and the old. We also sponsor the local organising committee in Rio. At the moment 40 people work there daily. In the run-up to the Games we will make up teams with colleagues from different countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, USA, Brazil, …..) to assist with development projects for certain local sports.”

Top sport and study
“I used to be a moderately talented football player with Beerschot and Germinal. I was not a brilliant student. A double leg fracture ruined my chances at a sporting career. After this, with the encouragement of my girlfriend, who later became my wife, I made the decision to study more. After obtaining my degree in Business and Financial Sciences, I began to work at EY in 1990. The freedom, responsibility and network I was able to develop in a fairly short period of time were a huge stimulus for me.”
Fit for the job
“Sports have immense societal value, and speak to people. EY is a true people organisation and we wish to actively promote a healthy, sportsmanlike lifestyle within our organisation,” says Rudi Braes. Years ago EY started the Fit4 project. This allows employees to receive guidance on nutrition, sleep and sport. If you feel well you perform better in the interest of yourself, the clients and EY. Of the 6.000 employees in Belgium and the Netherlands, more than half have already followed this program. “I recently lost 16 kg by eating healthy and exercising an hour every day. Our employees are sportsmen; they must be fit. We try to help them with this. In our company restaurants there must always be the option for a healthy meal.”
How would you, as coach, brief the Belgian hockey team right before a match? “You are the best, go for it, and win as a team. Never, never give up.”

HOCKEY WORLD LEAGUE
Rules & Tournament Regulations Players
A team is made up of a maximum 18 players, composed of 11 players on the field and up to seven substitutes. If a team has only one goalkeeper, they play a match with a maximum of 16 players.
Substitutions
There are no limits on the number of substitutions, apart from during a penalty corner or video referral when substitutions are not allowed.
Match periods
For Champions Trophy, Hockey World League Round 2, Hockey World League Semi-Final, Hockey World League Final, all Continental Qualifying Events for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, matches consist of four periods of 15 minutes.
Green & yellow cards
If a player is shown a green card by the umpire, he or she has a temporary suspension lasting two minutes. This means the team plays with one fewer player during this period. The time penalty kicks in when the suspended player sits on a chair next to the technical table. After the two minutes are up, the player can return to the pitch. If a player is shown a yellow card, the suspension shall be a minimum of five minutes. The Technical Officer on duty is responsible for timing the temporary suspension.
Playing the ball above shoulder height
A player may play the ball above shoulder height with his or her stick provided this is not dangerous or leads to dangerous play. This rules applies to the entire pitch, including inside the circle.
Penalty corner countdown clock
When a penalty corner is awarded, time is stopped for 40 seconds, except in the case of re-awards or penalty corners awarded after a Video Umpire referral. In the case of a re-awarded penalty corner time will be immediately stopped but the teams will not be allowed an additional 40 seconds. The umpire will re-start play at the earliest possible opportunity, ensuring that any delay is kept to a minimum. Matches are also stopped for 40 seconds after a goal is scored.
Video umpire
Each team is allowed one video umpire team referral per match. Team referrals are restricted to decisions within the 23 metre areas relating to the award (or non-award) of goals, penalty strokes and penalty corners. The on pitch umpires will ask the video umpire to study the relevant images and for his or her advice and recommendation. If the referral is successful, the team retains the right to make another team referral. If the referral is unsuccessful, the team loses the right to use the video umpire for the rest of the game. The umpires may also consult the video umpire, using their own umpire referral, if they have doubts about whether or not to award a goal. If a classification match ends with a shoot-out, each team has the right to a team referral during the shoot-outs. Referrals remaining at the end of normal time may not be carried over into the shoot-out competition.
Shoot-outs
During the classification phase, a shoot-out competition will be used if the scores are equal at full time. Each team picks five players who will each take one shoot-out. If the teams are drawn after a series of shoot-outs, the winner will be decided by sudden death, ie when one team has scored one more goal than the opposing team after an equal number of shoot-outs. The process will be repeated in series of five shoot-outs for each team until a winner has been decided. More information on the current rules of hockey can be found on www.fih.ch
