OUR VISION
A dynamic community revolving around parks, recreation and public spaces.
OUR MISSION
To enhance and enrich the lives of all Leander citizens by providing access to superior park and public spaces and creating quality recreation, sports and leisure opportunties.
"In today's world, it's easy to forget that taking time to enjoy each day is extremely important to our health and well-being." Leander, Texas is not only the fastest growing city in the nation but a community committed to quality living. This commitment has created the City's parks and recreation system that offers a wonderful network of community and neighborhood parks, natural areas and open spaces, pathways and trails and year round recreational activities. Take a walk alongside a meandering stream, play a round of golf, sign up for a fitness class; join an athletic team, go on a family picnic, kayak at Lakewood Park; take a trip with the Active Adults; listen to live music at one of our events, check out a book at our phenomenal Library or simply engage with others. Leander Parks and Recreation has something for most everyone. Stay abreast of all events through our new and improved Recreation Guide “Leander Play”; as well as social media outlets and the Department's Website. The Leander Parks, Golf and Library staff are some of the most knowledgeable and committed people that I have had the pleasure to work with and their focus is continually on making you and your family’s life more enjoyable each and every day. We also continue to plan for new parks and facilities in the days and years to come! Additional trails and trail connections; a new park in Old Town; an athletic complex featuring softball and multi-purpose fields; and a renovated and expanded Crystal Falls Golf Club Driving Range just to name a few.
In today's world, it's easy to forget that taking time to enjoy each day is extremely important to our health and well-being. Leander Parks and Recreation is committed to insuring that every resident has an opportunity to experience outstanding recreational activities and park facilities that enhance our quality of life by helping us stay healthy and fit, build relationships with family and friends, and develop a sense of community pride.

ACTIVE ADULTS ACTIVE ADULTS PROGRAM
INCREASED HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Leander Parks and Recreation organizes activities, events and trips for the 55+ community in Leander and surrounding areas. The Active Adults program features recreation and leisure activities, health seminars, hobby talks, and day trips all around Texas.
The Leander Parks and Recreation Department is aware of the risks involved with recreation and leisure in the time of COVID19 and as we work to resume programming in 2021 and into 2022 we will strive to set stringent health protocols to ensure the safety of our participants.
MEMBERSHIP
At this time, Active Adults are required to wear a mask when attending indoor activities and recommended to wear a mask when attending outdoor activities that do not involve exercising. Participants in activities are socially distanced six feet apart and shared equipment use is kept to a minimum. Masks are made available to all attendees.
Participants in Active Adult trips, activities and programs require an Active Adult membership, which can be completed on our online registration website. Community members age 55+ can register for an Active Adult membership regardless of where you live! Membership for the Active Adult program is currently free and becoming a member is the best way to stay up-to-date with all program happenings and opportunities. Register today online at leandertx.gov/fun under “Active Adult” > “Memberships”.
As health mandates change in the State of Texas the Active Adult program will take caution in adjusting its protocols until it is absolutely safe to do so.

Inclusive Fitness Challenges Regardless of their ability level, it is crucial for senior citizens to stay active each and every week. Many turn to exercise classes, like aqua aerobics or chair yoga, to stay active. But did you know that things like gardening and cooking also keep you active? Each quarter (starting in October-December) the Active Adult program will be conducting an online fitness challenge where participants can convert activities into steps and track their progress on a real-time leaderboard. Raking leaves in your yard (121 steps per minute) can give you just as much exercise as Water Aerobics (116 steps per minute). Participants in the Inclusive Fitness Challenge, or IFC, will compete with other Active Adult members to win prizes and an appreciation luncheon will happen at the end of each quarter. Interested in participating? Contact Corey

with SUSAN NIZ
Our poetry workshops are opportunities for writers to create and explore poetry. Novice poets are given a chance to delve into the art and craft of poetry in a fun, creative, and inspiring environment. The Poetry Workshops are lead by Susan Niz. Susan was a recipient of the 2021 Loft Excellence in Teaching Fellowship. She has two poetry chapbooks: Beyond this Amniotic Dream (Beard Poetry, 2016) and Left-Handed Like a Lightning Whelk, (Finishing Line Press, 2019). Her workshops focus on developing an authentic poetic practice based on closer observation of the world and words around you. Location: Storytime Room Ages: 18+ Day Date Time
