Sociology Technological Memoir My best friend and I have known each other since the summer of 2009. We met through my dad who introduced me to her. Her name is Ipod Nano Chromatic. I remember when I first saw her, I was sad that day missing my old best friend that I had lost. I always blamed myself for losing her and I really needed someone to comfort me. Then my dad brought Ipod to me and ever since then we have been very close; almost like sisters. She comes with me everywhere I go. I just need entertainment sometimes. She always sings and we both love music. Music is a necessity for us and it is a big part of our lives. We have the same favorite artists and she has a tattoo with Justin Bieber’s autograph. I think that is amazing; and we have met Justin Bieber 5 times by the way. But anyways Ipod is always there for me. When I need her I just call her and when I cry she just comforts me by singing until I fall asleep. But of course I’m also there for her; I always take care of her and I don’t let anything happen to her. On the train I never seem to be bored as I know I’m not alone and we just sit quietly as we listen to music together. I don’t really need to talk to her since music speaks for us. My best friend has really helped me create good relationships with people. Music helps people connect. For example technology could become like an addiction: “It seems like he can no longer be fully in the moment.” This quote is what Brenda says about her husband. In Attached to Technology and Paying a Price, Matt Richtel speaks about a family who is surrounded by technology and is not involved with each other. Technology might separate you and make relationships weak but me and Ipod it’s not about networking or Facebook, but its more about the music.

Technology is said to be a way to never forget a memory and to show your friends what goes on with you. But in The Web Means the End of Forgetting by Jeffrey Rosen, this is not the case: “…how best to live our lives in a world where the internet records everything and forgets nothing – where every online photo, status update, Twitter post and blog entry by and about us can be stored forever.” The web never forgets what you have posted and one day may be used against you but really technology helps stay connected. Basically that’s what Ipod does for me; my best friend helps me stay connected to my music!
