yrs 1-2 MY WELLBEING JOURNAL DISCOVERING MORE ABOUT ME Dear parents and teachers, students will need your support by explaining and offering direction for the activities. As their reading skills develop, encourage them to try to make sense of what they are being asked to do. This journal focuses on developing a self-awareness of themselves and learning to self-regulate how they act and feel.

FRIENDSHIPS WEEKS Choose a week around the middle of every term to have a special focus on encouraging students to use one of the four strengths, gratitude, teamwork, kindness and leadership, to build friendships with classmates and other students. There are pages for students to draw and describe their experiences at the back of this planner. * Being Grateful Week – page 121

* Being in a Team Week – page 122

* Being Kind Week – page 123

* Being a Leader Week – page 124

WHAT I DO WELL: MY STRENGTHS Introduce the concept of strengths, that everyone has things that they do well and that they use in their lives to be themselves. With the class explore things that they could do well and ask students to circle five of their own. Brainstorm to come up with another four to insert at the bottom of the page. Being creative

Being curious

Listening and learning well

Helping at home

Being brave to try hard

Showing manners

Telling the truth

Being patient and calm

Being caring

Being kind and generous

Being fair

Working together

Being safe

Being happy

Bringing out others’ best

Forgiving others

Being in control of you

Being grateful

Being humble

Having fun and laughing

WHAT I DO WELL: MY STRENGTHS Ask students to draw or write the five strengths they chose for themselves on each finger and thumb of the hand below. In the palm of the hand ask them to draw themselves doing one of the five.

5

WHAT I DO WELL: MY STRENGTHS As a class look for three words together to get students on the right track. Share the strategy of looking for the most uncommon letter in a word first to find the word.
