My Wellbeing Journal – Year 2

Page 1

MY WELLBEING JOURNAL year 2 UNDERSTANDING ME Dear parents and teachers, depending on students’ level of reading skills, you may have to assist them by explaining what’s involved in the lessons. There are no rights or wrongs, just learning experiences to develop their self-awareness, their self-regulation, impulse control and understanding of themselves. Empathy is introduced also. What different fun names do your family and friends call you?

FRIENDSHIPS WEEKS These occur throughout the journal every 12 weeks. Encourage the children to draw or describe how they could use one of the four strengths, gratitude, teamwork, kindness and leadership to build friendships with classmates and other students. Make a Strengths Wall in the classroom for children to draw or describe things that they or classmates did to show the strength. Also, at home, encourage families to make a Strengths Wall on the fridge, to participate as well. Acknowledgement: ACARA 1-2 HPE

MY SAFE CIRCLE OF ADULTS This Lesson: Wellbeing Learning Intention is for children to understand that there will be times when they feel unsafe or want to share problems they are unsure of with adults who they trust. Ask them to think about adults who will be in their Safe Circle. Ask them to draw a picture of or stick a photo in of each trusted adult in their safe circle.

PERSON ONE

Being aware means that I notice when I feel unsafe or unsure.

PERSON FOUR

I will ask straight away when I feel unsure or unsafe.

Picture of me

PERSON TWO

PERSON THREE

Nothing is so bad that I can’t ask them for help with.

My Safe Circle will help me as soon as I ask.

MY STRENGTHS, ACHIEVEMENTS AND GAMES This Lesson: Wellbeing Learning Intention is for children to understand that they can use their strengths to achieve what they want to do, and when playing games with their friends. This extends to noticing how characters in books and on TV use their strengths to achieve what they are aiming for. They can write, draw, stick in pictures or do something else to explain their thoughts.

Me using my strengths to achieve something special that I was proud of. Which strengths did I use?

My friends and I using our strengths in playing our favourite game well. Which strengths did we use?

HEALTHY BIG FIVE This Lesson: Wellbeing Learning Intention is for children to understand that there are five main things that they need to practise doing every day to be healthy young people. They are thinking positively, eating healthy foods, sleeping well, exercising daily and drinking water. A class brainstorm about what they do now is a good way to start. They can write, draw, stick in pictures or do something else to explain their thoughts.

Me exercising and playing with my family and friends every day.

Me being happy, feeling good and drinking plenty of water. Draw my water bottle.

HEALTHY BIG FIVE These Big Five are equally important and work together. Explain to children that if they stop doing one properly, it will affect the other four. Google The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating so they will learn what to eat more or less of.

My favourite healthy foods to eat are.

Me getting ready for bed and having a 10 hour sleep.

FUN AND ACTIVE IN NATURE This Lesson: Wellbeing Learning Intention is for children to understand that their daily exercise could be outside being active and having fun in the fresh air with their family and friends having enjoying the beauty of nature. There are so many health and wellbeing benefits to fresh air, sunlight and the calming beauty of nature, that children should be encouraged to enjoy them every day. Ask them to share what they do to have fun and be active outdoors with nature. They can write, draw, stick in pictures or do something else to explain their thoughts.

Having fun with family and friends exercising in our favourite place outdoors with nature.

Me trying a new fun activity outside with friends, such as playing on playground equipment.

TIMES TABLES This Lesson: Wellbeing Learning Intention is for you to improve how well you know your tables. Which of these do you sometimes get stuck on and need to practise more? To develop good number skills, it is necessary to know your tables. The best way to learn them is to write out three tables each night and ask your family to test you. It’s never too late to learn them, only too early to give up.
