The intention underpinning these My Wellbeing Journals for young Primary students, is to nurture in them a selfawareness of what they can do to feel happy, to build friendships and to be grateful for what they have and what is happening in their lives. The variety of simple evidence based activities are also intended to develop their self-control and understanding of others’ needs and feelings, through role playing and enjoying themselves with other students. All My Wellbeing Journal front covers are fully customisable and school specific content can be added. PREP GROWING MY WELLBEING

HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS

Ask students to talk with their families about how they could use KINDNESS in their lives. Ask them to role play and draw themselves showing it.

Your feelings can be positive (happy) or negative (not so happy). Name one of each and draw your face for one of them.

Using the My Wellbeing Journals for Upper Primary students learn more about how they can use their strengths to create opportunities to feel positive emotions and handle negative emotions. Their self-awareness, self-control and understanding of others are further nurtured through the variety of evidence based activities both in the journals and on our website www.learningcurve.com.au. Wellbeing Learning Intention: by knowing how to organise your school bag every night with your school books, making your lunch and having your uniform laid out for the morning, you will sleep well because you will be ready for school when you wake up. Be proud of yourself for doing this.

Students are to explore the weekly PERMAH activities to develop deeper understandings of gratitude, mindfulness, empathy, optimism and character strengths. The key focus is for them to practise these wellbeing and resilience aspects by increasing the level of their thinking using Habits of Mind and the interactive Thinking Tools from www. learningcurve.com.au

The student driven activities focus on students independently applying what they have learned about character strengths, setting self-expectations, PERMAH elements and being grateful to develop resilient mindsets. This includes practising mindfulness to connect with themselves through colouring in and being grateful for good things in their lives.

what are you looking forward to achieving and enjoying this week?

Health + strengths SELF-KINDNESS AND ACCEPTANCE Wellbeing Learning Intention: by understanding that your mind and body are closely connected and can affect each other positively, you will be in a position to accept who you are and be kind to yourself mentally and physically. Mentally, you do this by looking at life optimistically through your strengths to believe you can influence your future. Physically, you do this by eating healthy, exercising daily and having at least 9 hour sleep every night. Acknowledgement: Niemiec, Neff & McGehee

Respectful Relationships Positive self-talk is saying I can and I will statements to yourself in your head to help you think positively. Make up three of your own, e.g. I can practise more and I will make my best better by doing this. I can and I will

THIS WEEK

Being Self-Determined

Monday | What is a proud achievement? ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

WHY: by understanding that being self-determined enables you to feel that you have control over the choices you have in your life at school, you will be likely to choose to be self-determined.

................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

HOW: to be self-determined at school, three key psychological needs must be met. Competence: the need to feel that you can learn and master different skills in your roles at school. Connection: the need to feel that you belong and matter to others in your school. Autonomy: the need to feel in control of your choices at school and achieving your goals for school. When you experience these three things you are motivated from within (intrinsically) to enjoy and focus on becoming your best self at school.

................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

DO: what do you need to do to build your competence to learn and master the skills for the roles you have that you need to master?

Engagement + mindfulness FULLY ENGAGED Wellbeing Learning Intention: by learning that when your skills are stretched in meeting a challenge, that you may feel an enjoyable state called flow, you will be prepared to extend your efforts to try more difficult learning tasks. When you know the purpose of what you are learning, receiving feedback on how you are progressing and are fully engaged using your skills, you may lose your sense of time. Top performers in most fields experience flow. Acknowledgement: Nakamura, Kotler & Csikszentmihalyi

Wellbeing Reflection: When are times you have lost track of time while doing something challenging? .................................................................................
