MY WELLBEING JOURNEY – YEAR 3

To explore what you can do to grow into a happy and caring young person, have fun with your friends, classmates, parents and teachers doing the lessons and activities in this Wellbeing Journey. Class brainstorms are good ways to have fun sharing your thoughts to learn together.

Strengths Weeks

Draw a picture of classmates who you know, and add more as you get to know them.

There are four strengths weeks throughout the year and they are placed on the bottom of the right hand page for that week. You and your classmates can draw or describe how you could use one of the strengths below to build your wellbeing and healthy friendships. The order of these weeks are: Being Curious, Being Grateful, Being in a Team and Being Kind.

This Lesson: WHY: for you to learn that your strengths are your own personal best ways to do what you need to do everyday. HOW: everyone has their own mix of them, which makes all of us special in our ways. Draw a circle around the six strengths which you think are your strongest ones.

My Strengths Backpack

This Lesson: WHY: for you to write the six strengths that you chose in your Strengths Backpack. HOW: colour in each section of your backpack. Then you will be able to put on your backpack every morning to carry your strengths around to help you to make good choices.

Interested Listening

WHY: by understanding that interested listening is one of the best ways to build other people’s and your wellbeing, you will be able to show that you value what they are saying.

HOW: when listening to someone, look at their eyes, smile and be friendly, which will make them feel special and that you think that they matter to you.

Writing and Drawing

WHY: by understanding that your brain has two sides, left and right, you will learn best when you use your whole brain.

HOW: your left brain listens to your teachers’ words, so write them down using your own words. Your right brain looks for patterns, so do drawings of what you are learning to connect it to what you already know.

Hand Breathing: sit quietly and look at one of your hands. For each finger and your thumb, breathe in for 4 going up, hold for 4 at the tip, then breathe out for 4 going down. Repeat twice.

Sleeping Well

WHY: by having at least a 10 hour deep sleep every night, your mind and body will get the rest they need to grow well.

HOW: get ready for bed the same way every night. No device screen time 60 minutes before bedtime, having a bath or shower, drinking a cup of warm milk and reading will help you fall asleep.

Kindness in Action

This Lesson: WHY: for you to understand that the kinder you are to other people and also to yourself, healthier will be your wellbeing. HOW: every week make a big effort to do some of these kind things for family friends and classmates. Draw a circle around those that you do often to be kind.

Make a card thanking someone for all they do for me.

Smile at and say “hello” to people I meet.

Read a funny book with my family.

Say “Hi!” to someone I don’t normally talk to.

Give someone a compliment.

Make “Be Happy” notes and pass them out.

Hold the door open for others.

Play with someone I don’t usually play with.

Make my bed every morning.

Put my toys away every night.

Be a good sport when playing games.

Say “hello” to the person with the stop sign at the crossing.

Pick up rubbish at school and at home.

Be kind to my body by drinking water.
