-One brief intro at beginning of course. -One other exchange of personal information among students. -One other in-class opportunity designed to increase social rapport among students.

-Instructor has a 4 minute introductory video posted in which she welcomes students to the course and encourages an open-door policy for communication. -Course has an assignment in which students are asked specific questions about themselves that are important to the course. The questions are shared with all students in the class through a threaded discussion and are able to ask their own questions to help build their online peer-relationships. -Course has another in-class opportunity in which each student creates her own blog and posts responses to a series of writing assignments throughout the course.
