The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of British theatre - with almost 25,000 performances it’s a play to be proud of. And to celebrate 60 incredible years on stage, it’s going on tour for the first time, with a star cast to give you a once in a life-time opportunity to see this masterpiece here at Leeds Grand Theatre. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner.

The West End comedy smash hit The Ladykillers is the much loved Ealing classic brought to life on stage in an hilarious and thrilling production from the writer of Father Ted (Graham Linehan). Starring Michele Dotrice (Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em), Clive Mantle (Casualty and The Vicar of Dibley) and Cliff Parisi (EastEnders and Call The Midwife). The Ladykillers is a classic black comedy; a sweet little old lady, alone in her house, is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing… Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce. The villains plot to involve her unwittingly in Marcus’ brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped, but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs W. is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS MEETS DIRTY DANCING IN AN ALL NEW ROCK ‘N’ ROLL MUSICAL Written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran (Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds of a Feather, Shine on Harvey Moon), featuring the unmistakable music of Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman, and with authentic recreation of the sound of Rock ‘n’ Roll, this nostalgic, feel-good journey will transport you back to music’s golden era as we follow two teenage sisters through the summer of ‘63. For the first time without their parents, the siblings embark on a holiday to the seaside. Full of freedom and high spirits they meet a handsome young American who invites them to a dance at the local U.S. Air force base... Albert Herring Britten
Joshua Handel Handel has no equal in translating a dramatic Bible story into beautiful, stirring and blazingly colourful sounds. The gripping narration of the conquest of Canaan by the wandering Israelites under their leader, Joshua, inspired him to one of his most magnificent and successful music dramas. Dramatising the fall of Jericho and the plight and joy of the Hebrew people, Joshua contains some of Handel’s most brilliant choral music, as you would expect from the composer of the Hallelujah chorus.
30 April & 1, 3, 4 May 2013
May Day is looming, and the small town of Loxford is in turmoil. All the potential May Queens are judged to be morally unsuitable. Desperate, the locals decide on a May King instead, and choose the blameless Albert Herring. But when Albert disappears after one rum-laced lemonade at the May Day ceremony, chaos ensues. Starring Dame Josephine Barstow as the formidable Lady Billows, this wonderfully witty and charming comedy about small town life is the opening highlight of Opera North’s celebration of the 100th birthday of Britain’s greatest opera composer, Benjamin Britten. Albert Herring is performed in the Howard Assembly Room, Opera North’s beautiful venue for chamber-scale work within Leeds Grand Theatre.

‘exhilarating...one of the best musicals ever written’ SUNDAY TIMES
BILL KENWRIGHT PRESENTS
‘a triumphant evening ... unmissable and unbeatable’
‘gritty, gripping, superb... it’s a must!’
THE SPECTATOR
MAIL ON SUNDAY
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production recently surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as, inevitably, it ‘brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval’ (Jack Tinker, Daily Mail).

The Old Vic and West-End smash hit Noises Off comes to Leeds following its triumphant and critically acclaimed sell out run in London. Hailed as one of the greatest British comedies ever written, Michael Frayn’s multi award-winning backstage farce serves up a riotous double bill – a play within a play. Hurtling along at breakneck speed it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals, to a shambolic first night in Weston-super-Mare, and a final disastrous performance in Stockton-on-Tees.
