Ano Liosia is constructed of a limited number of short gestures which are then distributed in a formalized framework of succesion. In that way a chaotic musical ”matrix” is generated though distinct patterns are formed through permutations, repetitions and variations of the primal elements. Concrete patterns and figures emerge from the generated texture through a compositional ”enforcement” of random figural combinations. The title refers to the subjective chaotic impression which produced on me the suburb of Athens with the same name during the composition of the piece.
